1490 redraw problems (still)

Hi all, I just installed software version 5.20 and removed all unusable voices (other than english speaking). I have also removed my trip log. I'm still having a map redraw problem. I'll be on the hwy and then it just shows my car (actually Fred Flinstones) driving on a roadless map (for a few seconds). What else can I do?

RollBack

You can roll back to the version that worked best for you.

Select the version that worked for you.

4.70 http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi13xxand14xxseries_regionf...
4.90 http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi13xxand14xxseries_regionf...
5.10 http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi13xxand14xxseries_regionf...

Download what garmin calls a “region file”.
When you download it rename it to GUPDATE.GCD and copy it to your nuvi drive into the x:/Garmin folder.
Disconnect your garmin from your computer and follow the prompts on your nuvi and the rest is automatic.

*****Back up your favorites just in case*****

With your garmin attached to your computer.

1. Open your garmin drive Example drive (F)
2. In your garmin gps folder find a folder called GPX and copy a file named Current.gpx to your computer.
3. Now rename this file Temp.gpx and copy it back to the nuvi location.
***the current.gpx file is an out file and the Temp.gpx file is an import file***

Thanks for the instruction. Unfortunately it hasn't worked for my nuvi 1250. Copying the file to the garmin folder hasn't forced any installation. I tried hard reset, but the firmware stayed at 5.20. As my last option I tried, while the GPS was connected to PC, to run the new copied file (GUPDATE.GCD) using the Webupdater as the program, and the webupdater went through the same cycle as when you install a new firmware from the internet, but the end result was the same: Firmware 5.20. Any hints? Thanks.

Have you tried deleting the GUPDATE.GCD found on your gps instead of overwriting what’s there? Then copy the version you downloaded from the net using the supplied link. Renaming your downloaded file GUPDATE.GCD and placing it the garmin folder should do it.

Yes, I did

Yes, I did but it didn't work. After I deleted the original GUPDATE.GCD and used the Webupdater to run copied GUPDATE.GCD from x:/garmin/ folder the new GUPDATE.GCD was installed in x:/System/ folder but my GPS was still showing 5.2.

hercegovac, why are you using the webupdater? lol

Try the following:

1. Download software version 510 from here http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi13xxand14xxseries_regionf...
2. When you download the software on your desktop rename the file gupdate.gcd.
3. Now, copy and paste the gupdate.gcd to your garmin folder that is located on your nuvi. Example: F:\Garmin or .System folder (some units have a .System folder and I should of thought of it earlier, sorry).
4. Disconnect the nuvi from your pc and follow the prompts on your nuvi as it boots up.

Let us know how it goes….

I used the webupdater because copying the gupdate.gcd file into either x:\garmin\ or x:\system\ folder hasn't cause any installation when restarting/soft resetting/hard resetting my GPS. With the webupdater I was able to force the installation, but the firmware version wasn't overridden.
