Garmin Nuvi 780

Does anyone out there know anything about why the Nuvi 780 would crash and burn after a map update? After the update - from the Garmin web site - I turned it on and got a "no data" message - there was no map at all. I called Garmin, and they walked me through a soft and hard reset - but that did not help. My unit was exactly 12 days past the 1 year warranty - so of course that was the end of that. But then I purchased another 780 - from an ebay seller. It worked for a weekend trip, but then I got exactly the same problem as my first one. Also, when I tried to use the audio book got the message "no audio book available" - nothing worked - same as my first one. Is this a Garmin firmware problem? IS there a fix? I want a GPS with all the bells and whistles - INCLUDING audio books, but I cannot find any newer models that have audio books. What is that about anyway? Why would they stop including that feature; it is really a nice feature on a long trip. Anyone out there have any suggestions? I'm really bummed! sad(b

cool

First read this:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/32665

The 765t is able to do all that the 780 can and much, much more.

Both of my units are working with no problem, the 780 and 765t.

Use firmware 4.90 for the 780 and 4.0 if you upgrade to the 765t.

p.s
you can also listen to movies or standup comedy as well... rip dvd to mp3.

I keep about five on my unit at a time and reload more after I'm done.

No data

I pulled this up on Garmin support.
What should I do if my Garmin nuvi or zumo displays the message No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" or "No Map Data Available?"

03/14/2011
The "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" or "No Map Data Available" message may appear on your device for the following reasons:

The maps on the GPS device have been disabled
The GPS device is missing its unlock code
To determine the cause of the message, touch and hold your finger on the screen until the message "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" disappears.

If you see a "Can't Unlock Maps" message following this error, remove any microSD / SD cards in the device and follow the instructions below for 'Retrieving Your Unlock Codes' followed by the instructions for 'Creating an Unlock File'
If you do not get the "Can't Unlock Maps" message then skip to the instructions for 'Enabling Maps on the GPS Device'
Retrieving Your Unlock Codes:

Click on the myMaps tab.
Click on the Details link next to your device.

*nuvi units that are preloaded with transatlantic (North America and Europe) mapping will need to follow the Creating an Unlock Code File instructions above for their North America mapping and then create another unlock file for their European maps. The European unlock code file should be named gmapprom1.unl

Enabling maps on the GPS device:

Touch the Tools and/or wrench icon on the Where to/View map screen

.

@gw007msn: A few questions so we can better help?

Did the map update complete successfully? Which map were you updating to?

Were you also doing a map update on the eBay unit, or did it just quit?

Do any of the 5 sample audio books work? Can the unit play MP3s?
