I had a great time with family visiting one of the OTAs on Saturday. We drove over to Buena Vista, Georgia to see Pasaquan, the home of visionary artist, Eddie O. Mallard. You can learn more about this unique place at http://www.pasaquan.com/

Please note that if you are planning to visit, Pasaquan is only open to the public on the first Saturday of each month. November, when they have an art festival featuring numerous local artists, would be an excellent time for an outing to Pasaquan.

The current coordinates in the file are a bit off. The alert appears in downtown Buena Vista which is about 5 miles from Pasaquan. Of course, anyone in the small town could direct you to Pasaquan since Eddie Mallard was so well known and lived just off a road bearing his name.

Better coordinates for Pasaquan are: -84.582067,32.346568. This point is on Eddie Mallad Road at the entrance to the drive leading to Pasaquan.

Hi Bob,

I just got back from a 1-1/2 week trip around California using the Offbeat Tourist Attractions POI. It's very exciting to find one of the attractions 'cause you never know what will actually be there. We found many attractions.

Unfortunately, we were unable to locate about 50% of the attractions we went to find. If the Geo coding is off by even 100 feet, it sometimes is hard to locate the attraction.

I would like to help out with the POI. In particular, I would like to take California and confirm each geo code location and then send that excel spread sheet to you to add to the main POI and the state POI.

Please let me know whether that sounds OK to you. If so, I'll get started.

Hi, I did get your email but have not answered back yet due to issues around my home.. I will like you to help me out..

I will send you a email asking you to download the GPX version and then Read my email how to get it to me. I could us all the help when it comes to the Location of thease places.. i get emails, or just search the net for places that will be fun.. I have to count on the addresses and such for searches for proper locations so any help in this area will be great.

I will send a email to you for more info after this irean goes away ( the hurecane) THanks!!!!

The coordinates which you recently updated are correct. However, the address that is currently listed (409 12th Street. Columbus GA) is not.

Kadie is located adjacent to the Best Buy store in Columbus, GA. The address is 2925 Manchester Expressway, Columbus, GA 31909.

Kadie's name is derived from the first letters of Kinnett Dairy (KD).

Kinnett Dairy used to be located on the land where the Columbus Best Buy store is now situated. When Kinnett Dairy shut down, Kadie was moved from her hilltop location on Manchester Epressway to the less than serene 12th Street location in downtown Columbus, GA.

Lots of folks missed seeing Kadie standing on top of the hill at the Manchester Expressway location, so Best Buy said it would be proud to have Kadie come home.

Just want everyone to know that I am working on a new version of the GPX file that will now include in the comment section.

If a user sends in a location correction, I will mark it as "Location verified by 'users_name' " (unless user doent want there name used)

If I can see it on the google map clearly, I will mark it as "Location verified by google map"

If the site has not be IDed I will mark is as "Not Verified yet"

I think this might help with better location marking. I am also continuing to add phone numbers so that anyone that is looking for this place may call then for better location.

I am trying to make this file better and more reliable than it is. I do not, nor can not vist every site that I add.

Let me know what you think about this idea!

Btw, this info will not be part of the CSV file since there is no location for comments when converted.

Thanks for all the hard work. I live in MD and will check out some of these attractions and let you know if I find out any need adjusting I will let you know.

I am very glad that Everyone is helping out with this.. I am the only one that is working on this file right now but have been offered some help by some great users here.

Once I verify all the places that I can, I am also rechecking Every email that I got from here from when I started this file, Yes, I saved every one of them. Once I do this, I am giving it to someone to see if they can help too.. Then I will also LOVE to get anyone info from them if they Actally see the place and get the cord. to send to me. I will then add your login name to the file and then Send that info to POI factory (JM) so that you will get credit for helping out.. so how does that sound people.

I really want this file to be fun but to be able to really find the place that I am listing..

I have been getting reponses that some places are not found or way off.. I dont want that, I want this to be SPOT on!! so all the help I get will be great!!

By clicking the Logbook tab at the top of the POI file page, you can automatically give the user a POI Contributor badge and posting credit. This will also show a note on the POI file page.

just thought i'd pass this along, your coordinates are wrong for the trading up churches......i wasn't looking for it, but passed right by it according to my gps..... i did a quick search and its suppose to be in N.C. not S.C. like the coordinates show...

I am curenttly looking at ALL of the cord. at this time and did find some that were WAY off or just not in the correct spot. I am using Goggle Earth at this time to find the sites and then Marking them in the GPx Files As "Location verified by GoogleMap" Some of the places I still am not 100% sure about so I am leaving them in without the notice, Until someone says its good or not.

There are a lot of places that are just strage and fun to see but is hard to mark correctly, since some of them dont have a real addres jst one that is close to the poi. Tring to fix those also. While doing this, I have found many that I thought was good, just not good enough. Also found even more dups that I now took out. also some of the places dont exist anymore so those are marked also.

I hope to have a much better and cleaner file on the next update.. Yea, even more New places.

So watch for it soon...

I do try to make it as good as I can.

I re-did the full file by going to google maps and finding the places that I was listing. In my gpx file, I made a note as "Verified" in the comments area. You will not see this in the CSV file due to the limitations. I would love to hear from you if you can verify the location for me. Also some of you wanted to help me with this file, I am now ready for that Help. Send me a email and how you can help me. This has become one big monster for just one person to handle. thanks in advance!

Thank you for your kind words.. This release took me a while to do. I went thru Each and every location and tried to Verify each Location. When I id the spot, only in the GPX version, I put "Verified" in the Comment area. You will not see it in the CVS verion.

Doing this I also founds a vew dups and deleted those. If anyone can Verify the locations I would love to hear from you so that I can mark it as Verified by:(your Screen name)

I also added more places but due to the deletes it doent look like it.

I am always looking for new places to put in here.

Returned from my family winter driving vacation and, again, thank you so much for this POI. We are always impressed at just how much is out there and that we never would come across it if we did not have this POI.

This update is all full of fun stuff. I added over ***610*** places and new citys / Towns for your enjoyment.

This was a lot of work and hope you will have fun with it!

I also broke it down by states and updated those files too ( I know, about time :> )

Why are closed or gone places still in this POI Collection? To me they are clutter when riding. Maybe there should be 2 lists, exists and gone.

I like that the closed entry is still included here. I have another list that is probably out of date. I can see that the attraction is closed instead of just overlooked on the file here.

Perhaps the best way to use this file is as a TourGuide and a radius alert so you would know of one near your current location. When an alert sounds, you can decide if you want to see it based on the name instead of selecting it and then studying the GO page to see if it is there or not.

I got a lot of folks asking to keep them in. So after some debating what to do, I decided to keep them in for many reasons. One was that sometimes even if the site was closed, you could still see the item in question as a drive-by. It is also easy to keep if someone sends me a request to put it in but I find it was already there. Sometimes during my search for new items, I might find a old link or address just to find that it was there but now closed. There really is not to many of these in the file but it is fun to know what WAS there too.

I did make it easy for a user to just do a search and remove the line if they chose to. (look for the *** in description).

I am always looking to make this file better and want to get it in everyones GPS (LOL) anyways, keep the information comming, maybe I will decide to move those to a 2nd file as gone but not forgoten.. not sure yet..

This file has come a long way from what it use to be. In the begining, there were no addresses, only decriptions, Now I have addresess for most of them, and if I can find a phone number, it goes in too. I also have a verified or not in the comments section in the GPX file. Its not in the csv file since it do not export that feild...

I do want input to make this a better file and will keep it intresting for everyone!

It's your file. But thanks for the indicator as to which might be closed. It does make using the file a lot easier.

That makes this file now over the 10,000 mark (10955 to be excat)

This is a lot of new places that is put in this file. I am hoping to find even more for the next update. Since this was a lot, I hope there wonte wont be one for awhile, unless there is a fix.

This file is a lot of work but love doing it. I am also looking to do a few other new poi files, (just wait until you see what they will be) THat is why I was asking questions about your Fav. POI that you use all the time. Got a lot of great info..

I am also getting ready to send JM a lot more icons for the POI file, most will be new and improved in color, etc..) SO JM.. Get ready for a few LARGE Zip files with the gif files for your great site!! I drove Miss POI with my last set of icons that you can find here!

Great file!!

First, thanks to the ole Marine for creating this POI for us and doing such a great job. One thing about Marines, they are dogged; when they start something....they never give up till the job is done.

Now to my noob question: I've never used a custom POI but I created two with voice notification today with you guys help so I've been a busy boy, playing with my new Garmin 2595LMT.

How should I set the range for this kind of POI and are there any other considerations I need to be aware of? Is there anything else I should know?

Should or can custom POIs be put on an SD card to save main memory? This assumes that the GPS will read the info for the POI from the card. That work? I was going to download all 50 states but the file is 1gb and I only have like a little less than 3gb available (if I'm reading the file size correctly). The individual states are much smaller.

This is going to be fun stuff!
