Offbeat Tourist Attractions - Information!

I updated the File for ALL States for both GPX and CSV files. There are 263 more places to see since last Update. Total count is now 16411.

Feel free to download and enjoy the new file.

I enjoy doing this file since I see it gets downloaded over more than 64,000 times since I started it.

I am glad that this file is being used.. I put a lot of work into it and want everyone to have fun with it as well as to get to know what is around you when you run out of options to see. There is always something to check out, no matter wher you are!

Well, I updated all the States as well as "All States" file that is in CSV format.

For some Reason, POI-Factory is not letting me upload the GPX file format at this time. I will leave a Email to POI-Factory to see what the issue is, Once fixed, I will get it up here

The total count is now at 17160, I added more than 430 more places for you to Check out!

Tell us what you want to do, please.

.csv files are the norm for POI Loader to use to create Custom POI files on a Garmin device.

I just updated both the All states file in CSV and GPX format for anyone going on vacation during xmas !!

I can't believe I didn't see this POI until today. This is going to be a great reference for me.

duplication entry.. Not needed

can someone help me out here.. I have been looking over my POI file for 1 location outside USA/Canada

All my locations are to be inside the USA but my CVS upload is reporting that 1 of my location is outside the USA. I have been going over the file several times and can not find that location. I ant to fix it so if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated!

I will be happy to give you credit for your help too.

Check locations in the NW corner of Washington state. These typically show as being in Canada because the latitude is north of the rest of the state border.

I found the state that has the location out of the USA/Canada, and it is in Maine, BUT I just can not find the location, if anyone wants to help me in this, I would love to hear from you. I want to remove it from the files since all the places SHOULD only be in the USA... (BTW, you can download the State of Maine file - less places to review)

Found it. Sent you a message. But 42.985298 -70.614281 Ruined Monument to Man Saved by Pocahontas Star Island Kittery Point ME 03905 is the offender. It's out in the ocean. Not sure which is off, lat or lon, but it's located southeast of the southern most tip of the state in the water.

Just in case you are interested, I downloaded Maine. Opened it up in Libre Office and switched column A&B, put a header on all four columns, then uploaded to GPS Visualizer. Convert it to .gpx and save to disk. Double click on the file and Base Camp will open it, then you can inspect to make sure all the points are inside the state boundaries.

Those coordinates look OK to me on Google map ... on an island off the coast of Maine, but still within the state boundary.

Those coordinates put it on Appledore Island but the monument is actually on Star Island at approximately N42° 58.516' W70° 36.758'

Appledore Island is in Maine but Star Island is in New Hampshire. The state line runs between Star island and Cedar Island.

Great file. Thanks for your hard work. Have you seen the book "Off the Beaten Path"? There is a nationwide volume, as well as smaller ones for individual states. Bob, Look at your point for International Peace Garden in ND. While the park itself straddles the border, the entrance is in Canada and the exit is in the US. Both are located between the customs checkpoints, so it looks possible for an American to visit the garden without having to go through Canadian Customs, but would have likely have to show a passport to get back into the US! Your point is properly coded for the entrance, but that does put it technically in Canada.

I uploaded another update for your use.

I corrected some spelling erors, fixed some addresses ond locations. Also added 35+ new places to see.

The count is now 17397 and growing!

For some reason, I missed this POI file for the past six years, but I will definitely keep this one up to date.

Found all kinds of interesting places in areas I have lived in for the last twenty years and was unaware of. Lots of fun on boring trips.

BTW - one correction: the Klassix Car Museum, 2909 W. International Speedway Blvd in Daytona Beach Florida has been closed for a few years. In April, 2003, the museum's contents were auctioned off and the race was over. It was a Motorcycle museum for a time, but that closed as well. The building is currently for sale.

Thank you for your constant updates on this file. I use it often when traveling, it makes trips much more interesting and enjoyable.

...for enjoying the file and letting me know.. makes me feel good that some people are using it and having fun with the file.

It is hard work but I enjoy working on it myself. I am also learning a lot of new places, ideas, and even history about the good old USA!
