Not Enough RAoom to Transfer Maps

I am trying to transfer my New Map Update to my nuvi780 and I get an error message from Mapsource that there is not enough room on the GPS to send the maps.

I thought they just automatically overwrite the old maps to install the new.

Apparently I was wrong or something has changed.

So.... in order to send the update to my GPS what exactly should I delete from the GPS to make room ?

Is it "gmapprom.img" only ? I see another one called "gmapprom.sum" too, do I need to delete that one too or just the map img file ?

Thanks

The 2010.2 maps take more space than the '09 or even 2010.1 maps.

I would make certain I had unloaded all my extra files such as music and/or POI along with deleting all unneeded voice, text, and help files. Do not delete files until you have a backup though. See if you have enough room then.

Using an external memory card to hold things like music and POI is always a good choice.

Don't use Mapsource

When you run the downloaded 2010.20 map update file, the installation procedure will (if you have your GPS connected to the computer) install the map on the nuvi by overwriting the old map and will also install the new map while keeping the old ones on your computer. You need delete nothing on the nuvi--just let the procedure automatically overwrite the old nuvi files. This is by far the best way to install map updates.

You will run into the issues you're having if you try to use Mapsource to transfer the map to your nuvi.

Your nuvi 780 has more than enough room to install the new map without the need for you to delete any nuvi files.

OK.. Thanks for the insight.
