Garmin 265wt

Just got it
Worked great, until I regestered and up dated it
Now it's slow to find satellite

The old saying,"why fix it,

The old saying,"why fix it, if it ain't broke?" certainly applies here. I don't think registering your unit had anything to do with your slow satellite acquisition. If anything it was the update. What update are you referring to?

Garmin 265wt

Went to Garmin.com
And it said there was a new update
It is 5.30

Installed it is still slow to find satellite

My problem...

Did the update and frequently doesn't find the sat unless I pull it out of the dash holder. Then it finds the sat and works ok upon put it back on the holder. Doesn't seem to be position related either. Wierd. Any ideas??

...s l o o o o w .... to acquire

I've noticed that my 265wt also seems to be slower in acquiring satellite signal. I did the firmware upgrade over the weekend. Today is the first day I've used it travelling and noticed this issue.

...265wt custom speed alert

I've programmed speed alerts for certain areas I need to be aware of. When I near the area, a little box pops up to give me a heads up of the speed alert ahead. If I am exceeding the speed limit the box turns red and dings (or dongs).

While this feature works like it is supposed to, I thought the navigation bar at the top of the display is what alerts you and turns red...or is that another model that does that???

I applied the same update

I applied the same update but it seems fine to me.

Very Slow to boot up after the 5.30 update

I called Garmin Tech Support yesterday to find out if this is a known issue: they said they had not heard of it. It now takes my 265WT about 70 seconds to boot up to the password screen ("loading Maps.....").

Slow To Boot Up

I contacted Garmin by email and this is the reply I got:

Garmin Tech Support wrote:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. There could have been a corrupt file in your unit after the update. I recommend you perform a master reset on your unit, then run a test on the satellite acquisition. To do a Master Reset on the nuvi® 2x5:

Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.

Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
Release the power button when the device powers ON
You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
Touch Yes
The device will automatically reset. Please follow the on screen prompts on the nüvi and when completed place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

In order to back up your Favorites before you perform the reset:

1. Using a USB cable, plug the device into a PC.
2. Open the My Computer icon.
3. Double-click the nuvi drive.
4. Double-click the Garmin folder.
5. Right-click the GPX folder and select Copy.
6. Paste this folder to another location on your PC and assign a new name to the folder.

Once you save a copy of the GPX folder to your computer, you have successfully backed up the waypoints within your device.

It's not that slow yet to acquire satellites that I want to do a master reset.

Hard Reset Did not help my slow boot up

I had already tried that before contacting tech support.

265wt sloooow downloads for webupdater & communicator

I have windows, internet explorer 8 and Roadrunner high speed...these programs at Garmiin website time out and never make any progress downloading. Any suggestions?

Garmin 265wt

After I installed the 5.1 update I definitely noticed a slow down in satellite acquisition times vs 5.0. Also, some routings changed (not for the better).

With the 5.3 update it *may* be faster.

Anyone else having this issue?

Had the same problem

Mine was taking 10 minutes inside with only one satellite lock after update.

Some had posted here how to solve it.
1. Go outside with a clear view of the southern sky (presuming you live in the northern hemisphere).
2. Turn unit on and let it just stay unmoving for 30 minutes.

Well in 20 I had all sats locked in and 15 foot resolution. Turned it off. Went inside and flipped it on again. Within two minutes all was good.
So problem solved.

Might work for you.

I updated to 5.30, did hard

Still have problem
Best I have is 174 Foot Accutacy
Picking up 12 satellites

Will go outside and do another Hard reset

Mine 265wt updated to

Mine 265wt updated to version 5.30 and it works fine.

How Long to Boot up?

I'm curious: how long from the time you turn on your 265WT until the screen to enter your password appears?

Do you have to go outside to

Do you have to go outside to acquire satellites? because unlike my Magellan my Garmin locks about 10 sats within a minute and down to 25 foot accuracy within maybe 5 minutes or so inside the house
