Nothing In Its Place

The recalculating message has disappeared from mostly all of the newer units. There is no longer any audible spoken, what it does is autmatically recalculates and gives audio commands on where to turn to get back on the route.

The (some/most?)latest models do not say this anymore. It just does it without the audio.

I miss it.
There certainly will be mixed opinions from both sides. I personally like it since it made me aware I screwed up once again and the ability to customize the recalulating to what I would like to hear.

Depending on what you chose for your customization, it could be quite entertaining for some other passengers in your vehicle.

No.

Before I bought my 40, a friend lent me their BPS. Did not like the "Recalculating".

My 40 does not say it anyway.

Instead, it says "When possible make a U-Turn". I've replaced this with a couple of things my wife takes issue with.

How to load VPM file to c340

I've downloaded and changed the Jill voice file and now want to copy it to my c340.

Does anyone have a link on how to do this pleqse?

Thanks

Welcome to The Factory!

Be careful, there are at least two voice engines used by Garmin and voices from one are not compatible with the other.

I'm pretty sure that Jill is a voice from the better voice engine and I expect that a GPS as old as a C340 uses the lesser engine.

If your C340 has a Samantha voice, the GPS is not compatible with the better voices.

The easiest way to check this is to connect your GPS to your online computer, then run WebUpdater. If there's a new or revised voice for your GPS, WebUpdater will offer it:

http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp

.

Is the internal memory on the c340 accessible as a "drive" on a computer?

I seem to recall that that is one of the units that does not present itself as a "drive" to a computer.

@shaynebates
Unfortunately you will not be able to install the downloaded Jill voice to your 340.
Besides the latest version of Jill that is downloadable(word?) from Garmin is V3.0 and the TTS Voice Editor does NOT work with Jill Version 3.0.

a few changes

Recently on my wife's 765T, using Karen, I changed -

"Recalculating"
to "OK Pam. We will go your way."

She laughed the 1st time she heard it, said it makes her feel like she's the boss (even though she just turned the wrong way).

For a long while now on my zumo 665 using Jill -

"Please drive to highlighted route."
is "Get the kickstand up. We're ready to roll."

The rest of the group I ride with laugh but they do get the message.

"Recalculating" is "OK. Let's try your way".

Sounds like another fun thing to play with

Gee, I never thought that the speech phrases are subject to edit until I ran across this thread. I've had fun with some POI announcements (and watching the interesting reactions from wife and daughter the first time they hear them). Now, I might have to play with some of the directional announcements. Personally, I appreciate the feedback provided, despite the irritation factor of the "Recalculating" alert. Maybe a little tweaking of the phrase will make it a little less irritating... especially, if it works with our family's favorite voice, British Daniel.

TTs on 2595

How can I use tts with garmin 2595. I only have a beep .

Thanks for the link!!!

Now to create a new voice . . . maybe my wife saying, "I TOLD you to turn that way!" or instead of "recalculating", "You went the wrong way. Now we have to backtrack!"

and the list goes on . . .

Where are you expecting voices?

Icedog wrote:

TTS voices (Jill, Samantha, etc) are used in giving directions; e.g., "In point one miles, turn left on Elm Street." You have these, right?

Are you looking for voices to replace alerts on your Custom POIs? In that case, you will load wav files with POI Loader:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730

Or am I confused and you're asking for voice announcements elsewhere?

The TTS Editor discussed in this thread is used to alter the Garmin built-in navigational voices.

Voice Announcements

I had a garmin 670 and I had announcements for rest areas, for red light cams and now my 2595 only gives an audio beep.

Before it was mp3 file .. and now i think i need .wav but some comments say i need .sox.exe do you know where I can find more info about this.
Well your link is a page that gives that info. I appreciate. I am bookmarking this for the next time.

Thanks

When you created the POI's for Rest Areas and RedLight cameras you used an MP3 sound file and it works on the 670. Those same files will not work on your 2595 since it will only recognize wave files.

What you need to do is create new POI's using wave files. This is all covered in CraigW's link in his post.
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730

Read the instructions and make sure to download sox.exe from the link provided and put in the POI Loader folder.

You can convert your existing MP3 files to wave free online at the below link.
http://media.io/

Or you can create your own wave files at:
http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

Once you've created the new POI files using wave sounds, you can use those same new files in your Nuvi 670, IT WILL recognize them so there is no need to have two sets of files.

Thank you. Now, I have my announcements. I did what you said and worked . Now what I have to remind myself to change mp3 files to wave and .sox.exe is in place .

Hello turboccc

It's nice to see you on a forum !

Do you plan updating TTSvoiceditor to be compatible with last voices files of Garmin ?

thanks,

Latest VPM voice support

I wish.

You can't imagine how complicated this program is. Since I have no detailed knowledge of the VPM TTS file format, my program generically searches for some specific information to find the text and the table of pointers. You could use an Hex editor and find the table in English. Try again in Chinese, Korean, Arabic and so on. So TTSVE must be looking for something that is consistently there and reliable in all languages. Every time there is an update, there is a chance that my "generic" search fails and I need to adapt the program to find a new way again to find the famous table again.

Soooo (long story short), this is not a trivial task and requires a lot of time and thinking. Still, I could have a look. I need to know which voice is not working and a link to the file.

Please, do not post any link to VPM files on this site. Send me an email with the information, but post the voice file name here so everybody knows about them and won't spam me with the same file.

Thanks.

Funny!
