I believe that Famous Dave's BBQ falls under the definate defination of a CHAIN and would not be considered a Mom and Pop.
Could be. I haven't seen an "official" definition of either term. If Mom and Pop means run by a married couple then we had better do a lot of cleaning up in the list. If Chain means more than one location then the same is true. Where is the line drawn? To me it is a matter of small, narrowly regional, and started as a family business.
Correction: Looking into it more I see that Famous Daves' is far larger than I had thought and is not regional so I guess it does fail my own test. Thank you for pointing it out.

Famous Dave's is by all interpetations a National Chain. They have them here in Chicago as well. I am glad to see your own correction that it failed your own test.
To further clarify, GoFish who started this string has written:
As for the chains-I looked in the North America Official Rules & Regulations for Chains & they stated that a business is only considered to be a chain if it exceeds a certain # & is located in different states. Tho the rules may have changed as I have the 2006 edition. If I find out different I will delete those entries. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I do like Famous Dave's though, heartbroke that they closed the nearest one to my house. Seems like Chicago is tough on BBQ Places, we could not keep Smokey Bones in the neighborhood as well.

Everything made fresh daily. You will never buy yesterdays meat here. They close every evening when they sell out, and sell out of many meats (especially ribs) by mid evening. Come early. VERY busy lunchtime.

My husband just got back from a trip to Georgia and he said 5 out of the 6 places he tried to stop for BBQ between Atlanta and Macon were closed. Unfortunately, he didn't remember which ones but I wanted to put in a plea to the Georgians helping with this file to update if they can.

You may have to wait a little but the food is great. Got to see "the man" for some hot sauce (but I skip it to taste the meat). The cornbread is good. I purposely set the marker a little back from the driveway which is just before the Rt. 405 freeway underpass heading West on Northup Way. Dixie's is the long building nearly touching Rt. 405 North.

I had recently downloaded this file to my Garmin and yesterday I had a chance to visit one of these BBQ locations. While in Clarksdale, MS, I stopped in and had lunch at Abe's BBQ...........it was GREAT!!!!! Small little restaurant that is hard to see without knowing where to look. Not the "prettiest" places to look at but sure had great food and friendly service. Looking forward to trying other locations on this list when I have the chance.
