BensonTT, if your nuvi 1350 doesn't have a lifetime map update subscription, it's probably better and possibly cheaper to buy a newer device with lifetime map updates than try to add Garmin Lifetime Map Updates to the old device. Either that or go with an open source (non-Garmin) map.

Garmin Express

Most folks connect their GPS to Garmin Express (GE) and GE takes it from there.

Same issue, not enough storage

mldorsey wrote:

Updated with a couple of snags. My PC only had 3 gig of free storage. Garmin said I needed 5. Switched to the wife's PC, no problem. SD card had 20 gig free, so I don't get it.

Michael

When I updated my two Garmins, a Nuvi 760 & 765T, PC reported the same issue, not enough cache space. Resolved by deleting some old unneeded programs. Hadn't quite freed up the full amount it said it needed (7GB), short about 1/2 gig, but I tried it, and it worked. Both units updated without further trouble in about 45 mins each.

Garmin 3597 to Micro SD Card

Looks like I will be updating my maps to the 32gig Micro SD card. Before I went to Boston Last Month I was just about out of room on the GPS.

Installed on Two Units

I was able to install 2020.20 on my two 3590's.

I took two tries on one of them, but it finally loaded.

I also installed the Large JVC file on each without a problem.

2020.20 map

I have downloaded the 2020.20 map and large JCV file. Have not tried them as yet.
For those that have, did you notice anything different to the map? I know they have a lot to update and was wondering if it affected your trips in a good way.
Was there something there that made you say, 'Its about time' or 'Thank you'.
Thanks.

As do mine. I end up going to the local library and using their broadband to download the map updates since their broadband is much faster than my home broadband.

bizarre, have map but got it is old reminder

I've downloaded and installed 2020.20. On the way home Friday, my zumo popped up with a "your maps are older than one year message". Strange thing is the maps page on the gps says i have installed 2020.20.

Sounds like a good idea

That sounds like a great idea but does your library have Garmin Express or other Garmin software installed on their computers? And what about logging onto Gamin Express with your ID and passwords? Your technique sounds like a great idea until you might have to wind your way through the weeds on a public computer.

I didn't think of bringing in a laptop to the library. I have a friend that has no home computer or home Internet and he goes to his local library to use their computers to surf the web and catch up on his e-mails. Did I mention my friend is quite tight-fisted? shock

I do that when I go somewhere on vacation.

Updated Drivesmart 50 to latest maps

I just finished updating maps on my Drivesmart 50 to CN NA 2020.20...at least I think so.

Updated using latest version of Garmin Express...took just over 3hrs via Spectrum Internet.

Questions...

How can I confirm if file downloaded correctly ? I'd like to check what I have vs what others on this report as file size.

I was surprised to see new maps loaded to my Drivesmart's internal memory and not to micro SD card that I have installed. When I started download I was not given option to load to micro SD card. What gives ? Is it because there was enough space on units internal memory ?

That

That is correct.

I've been running the new

I've been running the new map since it was released and have had no problems. My father's 3590LMT was another story. Took a very long time to update. It kept freezing near the end of the installation but eventually updated and is working fine.

finally got my garmin updated
no problems
working good

Observed something new today...

...as I was driving. I was driving on a US and Ohio state route when the GPS told me to keep right. (This happened in a town where the route that I was on goes straight through town.) As you enter the town, there is a small street (which is a dead-end street) that goes off to the left. I found it interesting that the GPS told me to keep right on the road. This has never happened before in all of the previous map updates. Something new!
Also, I noticed that SmartLink activated on the GPS even though I hadn't opened the app on my phone. That was also interesting!

"keep right"

The "keep right" prompt is part of Garmin's "Real Directions" feature. It is one of the things I really like on the newer Garmin devices.

With my Android smartphone, the Smartphone Link app auto-starts when I power up the phone in the morning and auto-links to the Garmin GPS when I power up the GPS. Only rarely do I need to manually do anything to get the two working together.

missing jcv

I updated today via Garmin Express, when I checked the unit - the jcv file (small one for nuevi 1450) was still the old one, does someone have it? This happens all the time..

Check here

For your nuvi 1450, you will receive a small jcv file with each map update. You will need to find and download the specific Large JCV file after each map update. Generally someone here at The Factory will post the Large JCV file within a few days of each North America map update being available. As stated in the FAQ, each new map requires a new Large JCV file as each is map-version-specific:

Map download link.

wyhomuw wrote:

Garmin Express is used to install map updates. There isn't a specific link for the map files … Express knows where to find them.

I see you list a C550 (Street Pilot) as your device. I am guessing you do not have a lifetime map update subscription for a unit that old. If that is the case, the map updates are not available to you.

If you are asking for a link for pirated or illegal copies of Garmin map files, those discussions are not allowed on POI Factory.

While you are at it there is a newer map update than this one. 2020.30 can be found here: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/50227

good

Thanks. But before I download, I need to ask.

Prior to the last map update, I had been successfully installing all of Canada and the US on my Nuvi 650, which has an 8Gbyte SD card. With the last install, I could not do it. Two possibilities emerge.

1. The downloaded files are now too large.
2. I did something wrong.

I have been using Garmin express. Prior to the last map update, I was able to load (between the Nuvi and the SD card) both Canada and the US. With the last (prior) map updated I was unable to include Canada.

Any thoughts on how to get both Canada and the US installed on a Nuvi 650, assuming that the map update has not gotten too large?
