Nuvi 2460LMT 2 Units

Just updated

The 3590 and 3597 both took about 30 minutes to update. Working on the 350 now. Updater is saying 1 hour and 20 minutes to finish the update, but with the way it is running, I would anticipate about 15 more minutes. I plugged it in about 5 minutes ago and it is already at 31.3 % completed. Good news is that the new update has two new on and off ramps showing now on I-71 and a local street in town is now showing. I installed this street on Waze back in July and it showed up on Waze about a week later. It is now on this map update. When I checked a couple of days ago, Google maps was not showing the street and HereTo Go also was not showing the street. So, it is good that Garmin is showing the new street even though Garmin gets their map data from Here. It is interesting that Garmin has the data but HereToGo does not.
Update: The 350 is now at 53% updated at 10 mins in, so, probably another 10 or so for the update to be completed. This update seems to go faster than previous updates.

minor issue after map update

I did a wi fi update on my DS61 yesterday and have a problem now. I can no longer power the device off by pressing the on-screen OFF button. The button press is no longer accepted. I can only put the device to sleep. Sort of strange.

I think there was one software update paired with the map update.

Updating now...

I attempted

uber360 wrote:

I attempted to do the map update without doing the software update and GE proceeded to do the software update anyway prior to updating the maps.

I can still turn off the DS61 by pressing the off button on the screen. Possibly a reset would fix your issue.

clarify...

When you say

"I can no longer power the device off by pressing the on-screen OFF button" are you referring to the OFF that appears after holding power key for an extended period?

Thanks

for the update

3597LMTHD now requires SD card for map update.

For the first time, I was not able to fit the entire map update (CN NA 2020.30) in internal storage of my two 3597LMTHD's. I maybe could have squeezed it in if I had deleted all voices except the one I use. But I decided it was time to just let Garmin Express do its thing with the SD card. Express installed all the update files into internal storage except the JCV file. I was surprised it worked this way as I thought it would put the map file itself on the SD card.

Yes.

I think I've got it sorted now. I went in and deleted some of the error/log files and all is back to normal, I believe.

Thanks.

...download to the memory card. There was a tab on there that said “more options “. I hit that with the thought of, what other options are there? But, to my surprise, it downloaded everything to the GPS’s internal memory. It is now showing that I have 700 megs left on internal storage.

Might be more excited to go water the outside plants. I have yet to see any update that has been of help to me. After what, 15 or 20 years of using Garmins. Sad to say. Not that we are building many new streets here but even the Garmon POI's are well out of date. They still list a grocery store in Palm Springs that has been gone for 1 years. Whoa.

Totally agreed with your comments on the agar in POI's. The gas station and bank across the street from my dad's house have been gone for 4 years now and they even tore down the strip mall, but they are still listed as a POI.

The Old Stuff Is not deleted

It appears that the new business is added, the previous businesses at the same address are not deleted. I'm seeing gas stations and restaurants that have been gone for years still showing up, and maybe the current business shows up at that address. The size of the product could probably be greatly reduced if the stuff that no longer exists are purged.

And the speed could be greatly enhanced if there wasn't all this redundant extraneous data.

POI with Garmin were always a mess. Sometimes there were old mixed wit new, sometimes new were not existent anymore, sometimes existing points disappeared with update. If you don't have to try to not put too much faith into Garmin's POI accuracy. It looks like they are adding them in bulk just to brag how many millions POIs they included with map.

Favor for a neighbor

Updated Firmware and Maps on Neighbor's 2597

Whereas I got 18MB/sec download a few days ago, tonight only 3.7MB/sec today...
