Downloading it as I type

I expect it will take some time, being that Garmin's servers are likely to be hammered right now.

6.5 GB?!? Holy mackerel! No wonder a firmware update was needed to deal with these massive map sets.

Thanks

Thanks, I've started my nuvi 750 update right now. As in recent times, I was offered the full map to SD card or a regional map to the nuvi. I can't remember if this has been discussed before but the nuvi 750 with the latest Garmin Express will offer the full-update-to-SD with a minimum of 3GB free space, but the update process doesn't auto-delete the previous map. Until I manually deleted the previous map from the SD card to free up most of the space on a 4GB SD card, Garmin Express would not start the update to SD.

Is the requirement to manually delete the older SD card map standard for all Garmin devices? If I had a 8 or 16GB SD card and space was there, would the update process auto-delete the older map or would it be left in place?

Thank You for the update

Unfortunately it also tells me it will take more than 5 hours currently.

1.6

1.6GB is a lot of free space so not surprising that GE would offer the full version update. Since the old map files get overwritten with the updated files the only additional space needed from one update to another is for any increase in file sizes which normally wouldn't come anywhere near 1.6GB.

Mine took about an hour, on a nuvi 2555 using the old MapUpdater.

It installed a f/w update to 8.30 as the 1st step.

The last couple of map updates, I get a warning message at the end that says the "maps installed to my device but did not install to the computer" or similar wording. If I open Basecamp, the new maps are there just fine.

Combo download and install...

Same for me. I used the MapUpdater program this time as well, mainly because the update crapped out on me using GE. After the update completed I got the same message you did but Basecamp finds and uses the 2017.30 maps with no issues.

nuvi 855 and 3597

My updates are going well. I did notice something odd updating my nuvi 855 and wonder if others have seen it:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/46617

nuvi 3597: I had removed the foreign language voices from my 3597 but do have all available English language voices installed:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42708

which is taking up a lot of space. I see that with the 2017.30 full North America map installed, my 3597 has only 75.2MB of free space remaining. It'll be interesting to see how well the 3597 works with so little free space. Any thoughts on how well it'll work with so little free storage? If it freezes or acts sluggish, I suppose I'll remove a few voices.

Or

Or just install the gmapprom files on an SD card instead of the Nuvi. I've always done this with my 3597 and have not noticed any freezes or sluggish behavior. They go in the \Map folder which you need to create.

I don't know the answer to that Rick...I always get a fresh copy of gmapdem.img with every map update, although from what I can tell it is identical to the previous version in both size and content.

If I recall, you were using a larger gmapdem.img file from a different device instead of the one that came with the 3597, so that may be the difference?

I don't recall where the DEM file came from but it works so I'll just keep it. Should I be alright with the old gmap3d.gma or was that what you didn't know the answer to?

Full Screen Full Coverage JCV.

I just updated a clone of my 755T. The JCV file that came with it is D3060220A.JCV (846,222 KB) replacing the 2017.20 file D3060210A.JCV (847,186 KB). So the file actually went down slightly in size on this version.

I was referring to the gmapdem.img file, but I also don't know why you didn't get a new gmap3d.gma. I would think as long as the new 3D map is showing on your map info screen and you can see the 3d buildings, you should be OK.

Good idea. I already have an 8GB card in the device with a tiny supplemental map. I'll do the move if I notice any issue with the limited free space on the nuvi.

I still have 205 MB of free space on my 3597 after the 2017.30 map update. I also have all the English voices, so I wonder where the difference is? Do you keep the old trip logs cleaned out of the \GPX\Archive folder? I have also removed the unnecessary languages from the help folders and the ASR folder.

I think I should have enough free space for one more map update, then will probably need a SD card.

Good points. I updated my 2nd 3597 (same voices as my 1st) and found it had about 95MB free. I admit I go after the low-hanging fruit like voices, but haven't tinkered with old trip logs, help files, ASR files, etc. I'd look into these if it hadn't simply been suggested that I move my CN Map file from the nuvi to the SD card, thereby adding over 2.5GB of free space to the nuvi with one file transfer.

Thanks

Downloading to the 775T now. I think it said 3.9 GB at the start.

By Map updated, I used 'old' map SD Card; deleted three map files; Updated Maps to SD card with GE; renamed 3 map files; and then swapped SD cards in 660, putting removed one in the 'OLD' card case... In other words, I switch back & forth between 2x SD cards, so I always carry the older version SD card should I need it... (haven't needed to revert back--yet)!

Preferred method for windows. I have Win 7 - may be slightly different for other Windows versions.

Click on "Start"
Click on "Control Panel"
Select "Programs" or "Uninstall a Program"
After list is complete, select the Garmin map to uninstall. (Should be listed as "Garmin City Navigator........" for USA maps.)
Select "Uninstall" at top of panel.

NOTE: Be sure to select the OLD map, not the new one.
