Garmin 2797lmt full-Please help

Hello everyone. Firstly I have looked for an answer but have had no luck so I am now asking for some advice/help. Garmin wont reply so my next step is here with the experts. I have a Garmin 2797lmt with all the maps pf Europe as I am in Europe. My unit after my last update now states that my internal memory is full. I installed an 8gb sd card in it and it would not read it but it reads my 16gb sd card. I would like to be able to transfer some files onto the sd card to lighten the load on the internal memory. I am completely unsure which files I can move to the sd card.I do not risk wiping the unit and strating from scratch incase I muck it up. I am also having problems seeing hidden files on the unit to see hwat is casuing my "full memory" message.
Any help in advance would be greatly appreciated. I purchased the unit new here in Europein the middle of this year.

Welcome

Jo napót and welcome to The Factory,

Regarding your 8GB card:

Regarding files on the SD card: If your 2797 really is full, you could wait until the next map update. The next map update almost certainly will be larger than the current map and therefore, the update process will offer to you the option to install the map to the SD card. This will free up a lot of space on your 2797 without added effort.

Another thing you can do is to delete unneeded files, with voice files in languages you do not speak being the first to consider removing:

To work with files on your nuvi, you will need to switch your nuvi from MTP to MS mode:

If using a PC, you also need to change some computer settings:

The two links immediately above explain why you're not seeing hidden files right now. Please make a backup of all files on your nuvi after switching to MS mode but before you start tinkering with removing or moving files!

Many files can be moved to a SD card and the largest are map files and junction view files. Ask if you want more advice on moving these files. More from Garmin:

In addition to the advice CraigW gives, make sure your 8 GB SD card is formatted as FAT32. The nuvi will not read the card if it is formatted with NTFS.

@Aries25au, Welcome to the "factory".

Please follow the advice of Craig and Alan - especially the part about a BACKUP first thing.

It would be interesting to know how each of your SD cards is currently formatted.

The first step will be to get your device in "Mass Storage" mode as described above. Assuming you are on a PC, attach the nuvi with one of the cards installed, let the computer recognize the new drives (the nuvi and the SD card), find the SD card in Explorer and right click on the SD card drive letter, then click Properties and note the formatting.

Safely disconnect by clicking the Icon in the System Tray and choosing the USB device representing the nuvi. Change to the other card and repeat the process.

It would appear that one of the cards was not FAT32, so we would be interested in that. Also, might as well format it as FAT32 while you are there.

You did make a BACKUP first thing, I plead.

Wow.............a super huge

Wow.............a super huge thank you to all the replies. Very impressed with the help. I will try out the suggestions later today and let you know. Suggestions re the voice files is good, and the 8gb card still doesnt show up in my 2797, yet the 16gb does. I have formatted as described but still no 8gb. I wont loose sleep over it.
Thanks again

Formatting Utility

Since you were able to format the 8gb SD card to Fat32 tells me your PC is recognizing it but the Nuvi is not.
Perhaps the SD card has gone bad and may need replacing.

You can try to format it using a format utility rather than your operating system, at this juncture you have nothing to lose.
I suggest when formatting don't do it with the SD card inserted in the Nuvi, use a card reader or slot on your PC if it has one.

Click on the link and choose either Windows or Mac download.

Happy to learn your Nivi now recognizes the 8gb SD card.
I ONLY use Sandisk SD cards, I find them to be reliable and never had any issues with them.
