Traffic Receiver Update ?

Hi All.

I have 3790 and have a strange problem.

Whenever I turn on the 3790, I get a message that the Traffic receiver needs a software update.

This has been going on for a couple of weeks.

I tried using GarminUpdater several times, but it does not indicate any new traffic receiver updates at all.

Any ides or suggestions ?

3790

I just looked in my backup of the 3790 I had and in the system file it shows a file called "TrafficProvider.xml" at 294 Kb.
Is it in your system folder?
Just wondering if maybe a missing file will show an error?

Traffic recvr software

Not sure. My wife has the gps in her car and is out of town this week.

I'll check it when she returns.

Thanks for the help.

When I had this problem with my 1490-Ts in the past, I used the Webupdater, and it cleared the problem up, but I think the new Garmin Express now covers all the bases.

You might want to check the "Optional Updates" section under the "Tools" section just in case the update is there and isn't selected. Good Luck....

Interesting because my 3790LMT no longer shows any traffic icons or traffic conditions. We live close to NYC and there is no reason not to receive a signal. Our trip to Texas and back never netted a traffic icon.

I recently ran the webupdater and Garmin express and I did not see any traffic updates or resolved this issue.

3790 Traffic

Yes, I have that traffic provider.xml file in my System folder.

Is the traffic receiver you have a GTM60 ?

That's what I have.

I have used the webupdater several times and always check for any additional updates. No traffic updates are ever offered.

I have a GTM60 receiver... is that what you have ?

Traffic Receiver

I am beginning to suspect that I somehow got the wrong traffic receiver paired up with my 3790LMT.

I have several nuvi units and I may have gotten them mixed up.

I currently have the GTM 60 hooked up, but I "think" the 3790 uses either a GTM36 or GTM35.

Anyone know for sure which one the 3790LMT uses ?

The Garmin 3790 page (Accessories/TrafficReceivers) does not list the GTM 60, but does list the GTM 36 as compatible.

And the GTM 60 specs list the nuvis 3490 and 3590 as compatible with the GTM 60 but not the nuvi 3790.

.

This issue is indeed the incompatibility between the GPS and the traffic receiver. If I use my 3790 with the GTM 60 that came with my 3490, I get the exact same error message.

Traffic Receiver

Thanks Guys.

That confirms it.... I must have gotten the traffic receivers mixed up when moving the Units around from car to car.

Now I have to search around to see where in the heck the GTM 36 is right now.

Thanks again !

Other models?

Do wed have similar reports for other Garmin/Nuvi models?

Same here with my 2465T(TWN, equivalent to 2360US).

On my 1370T(TWN), the error message says, "This accessory is not supported."

Good To Know

Thanks for the info guys...

I have a 3490 and another unit (can't think of the model off hand) and that is definitely something to look out for when switching them around (which I've done).

Traffic Receiver

I would have to check. It is in my wife's car.
Since I only have one GPS that works with that power/traffic cord, whichever one it is must be the right one- yet I get no traffic. I do not see an option for it and the webupdater does not show traffic update options either.

WebUpdater or Garmin Express?

Have you tried both or just one of the above?

very helpful info

this is very helpful info.

i always thought that as long as the connectors on the gps and on the antenna cord match, it will always work.

but i guess thats not the case. i wonder why? isnt the antenna cables still the same? whats the difference internally?

Traffic receiver

OK... I found the other traffic receiver and swapped it out so all the traffic receivers are matched up to the appropriate GPS units.

Problems fixed. All seems to be working.

As long as you can get
