Nuvi 2797 hidden files

In the past I had no problem setting up my computer to view the hidden files in the 3790.

Set to view hidden files and folders and drives in Windows 7 and 8.1

The same settings do not seem to work in my new 2797.
Strangely enough the 2797 does not even show as a drive with a drive letter, but it shows up in "This PC" between "Music" and "Pictures", almost like another folder.

Anyone know what I need to change?

Thx

Set GPS to mass storage first see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/41416

Thanks charles45

That info did the trick !!!!
At least now I will be able to back up the 2797 to my hard drive.

I remember having read about the "MTP" some time ago but did not realize that no it applies to me too.
Thx

Just remember should you do a hard reset on your 2797 you will have to perform the MTP procedure again since the hard reset restores to default settings.

Also

Also remember that putting your Nuvi in Mass Storage mode exposes the important system files, like the map files, that are in the normally hidden .system folder. This makes it possible to delete these files my mistake.

What some people do is use the 3rd option on the MTP Settings screen which is Mass Storage Single Session. This setting will allow you do what ever it is you need to do in Mass Storage mode BUT when you reboot the Nuvi it will return to the default MTP mode, thereby hiding and protecting the important system files.

If you need Mass Storage mode in the future you simply repeat the procedure of changing the MTP setting from MTP to Mass Storage or Mass Storage Single Session.

Thanks t923347 for the cautionary advice, but being an old fart I may not remember the MTP procedure if and or when it is required.

Way back in history I did happen to wipe out all of my Nuvi 350 (I think) files and it took me hours to recover most files using a recovery program. Then I reinstalled everything from Garmin So now I am very cautious when it comes to formatting anyting.

As long as you don't put check mark in Show hidden files and folders and you don't take the check-mark out of hide protected system files (Recommended). For the folder option you will not expose the system file. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39185 .Still enough showing to cause problems if you delete something by mistake. That is when the backup does its job.
