I did call them. The person I spoke with said the JCV file is with the download map. He stated that he had been with them about 5 years and the junction view file is in the map DL. I tried to explain that I have done this 5 other times, DL the large file. He didn't seem to know about it or the difference in size of files. He suggested that I do not go into the files area. I guess I will wait.

I checked the size of jcv file in my 3597. It is 497 MB. Is this large size? Before the full size file is around 800 MB.

I think your remembering the file size for your older Nuvi's or you were placing the full screen JCV file on your 3597. The correct file size for the JCV file on the 3597 is 497MB. It is the full file but since the views only take up half the screen the total file is much smaller than the Full Screen view file on older devices or the one that is usually available for download after the map update is release.

Does anyone remember the 2013.30 map update in Nov. 2012? We waited and waited for the full coverage JCV file from Garmin, and after several days, Garmin announced they would no longer publish the JCV file for separate download, upsetting many of us. One of our POI Factory members put it on DropBox to help us out, but Dropbox kept shutting it off because of excessive bandwidth usage.

Then for the 2013.40 map update the following February, Garmin reversed this decision, published the JCV file and has done so ever since. Hopefully we are not going through that scenario again.

2015.40 Didn't Diable my 2350LMT

Yesterday I said, "I do think that if my 2350LMT can run 2015.40 if I buy it on www.garmin.com/mapupdates I out to be able to download it via its LMT status. If not, it indicates a major marketing policy change by Garmin."
[/Quote]

Well, my Garmin 2350ZLMT is obsolete and can't load NA 2015.40. I was able to download and install the new map on my Mac and can see it in Garmin Map Manager and use it in Garmin Base Camp though. Moreover, I went to www.garmin.com/mapupdates to see if I could buy the software there. At that point a dialog said to use Garmin Express to determine which maps are compatible with my unit. I'd exhausted my options.

2015.40 Large JCV File Link(s)

I have completed the 2015.40 map update on a clone of my 755T, and Garmin Express did again provide the Full Screen Full Coverage JCV file. It is as follows:
03/24/2015 11:22 AM 855,090,875 D3060170A.jcv

So far, Garmin has not published this file for separate download, but hopefully they will put it online at some point for those with 8x5 and 14x0 model nuvis. When they do, you should be able to find it with this link:

http://download.garmin.com/support/2015_40/NA/JV/D3060170A.JCV

Still true at the moment, so I emphasized it in the quote. Interestingly, for units that normally receive this file, my GMU installation log reveals it's downloaded twice as an "Additions File"--initially as part of Region 1 (Full Coverage of North America) and again with Region 11 (Southern US & Mexico).

No doubt applicable to GE as well, keep in mind that there's some authentication in place while GMU is running, so if you try to download the JCV from it's source after exiting GMU, expect to get a "403 Forbidden" error. Since I've finished the update and closed GMU, someone else is welcome to verify whether the file can be grabbed manually while their update is in progress. It's located at:

My attempt to install CN North America NT 2015.40 on my 2350LMT failed. When I connected the unit to my Mac and launched Garmin Express version 4.0.11.0 the following message appeared on the screen:

Map Update Notice

The following map data is more than a year old and should be updated:

CN North America NT 2014.40

To purchase updated map data, go to www.garmin.com/mapupdates

At that point my Garmin’s screen froze and I have been unable to navigate to a different screen or even turn the unit off. It is now plugged into a wall outlet by a recharging cable, but that did not change the screen.

The Garmin Nüvi 2350LMT recently went out of production although several are still available for sale on Amazon. Inn the past, one of more map updates could be installed on obsolete Garmin GPS units. In this case, my 2350LMT seems to have been disabled and cannot be used at all.

If refurbished, what serial number did GE show when you registered it?
Is it the same serial # as what is on the tag on the unit?

Slow DL Speeds

Don't forget that Internet providers advertise a certain speed, but often neglect to tell the customer that those speeds can decrease as other customers DL through the same neighborhood hub that you are using. Having a 50 Mps line to your house gets degraded when 10 people are on the hub and only a 100 Mps feed is connected to the input of the hub.

Cable companies do this sort of thing regularly. If 10 people are DLing at the same time, then they each get 10 Mps each, not 50 Mps. Somewhere in the fine print there will be a statement that 50 Mps is the maximum and may vary with system load!

So, it's not always Garmin's fault.

Not positive but I think the farther away you are from the intended server the slower the speed. I believe Garmin's servers for North America are located in Olathe Kansas, their headquarters.

My ISP download speed is 50mbps, I find when I do a speed test the closer the server is to my location the faster the speed. I just did a test and my speed was 59.97 mbps at the closest server. That's even faster then advertised. Now if I try Anchorage Alaska it drops to 18.50 mbps. Those figures are pretty much consistent so I don't think I'm affected by how many others are online at my ISP.

Below is a link I like to check speeds. It goes worldwide, by moving the map around you can select various server locations in those countries.

If you have a DSL line, then yo have a direct connection to the backbone and you don't share bandwidth with anyone. Maybe if every single customer of that phoneco got online you might see some degradation, but not likely.

Cable, on the other hand is most certainly affected by the number of customers on your hub, as described above.

zumo 660/665

Has anyone updated a zumo 660 or zumo 665 with the CN NA 2015.40 yet? If so, I am curious to know if you got the full coverage JCV file with the download (~815 MB), or did you get a small crippled JCV file (<50 MB)?

I think the only devices that have full screen junction views are the 7x5, 8x5, 1390 and 14x0 nuvis and the 660/665 zumo. So is the 7x5 now the only model getting a full coverage full screen JCV file with the map update?

All these models are long discontinued and few of them probably have lifetime map subscriptions. Most devices of this generation were not LM models, so the lifetime map subscriptions were purchased separately. So I wonder how much longer Garmin will be willing to make a large full coverage full screen JCV file.

GE vs. MapUpdater

As I see, I'm not only one with update problems via Express. Ironically MapUpdater still works it's magic as always. Does this means, that Garmin doesn't really care about delivering good software for updates anymore? If they could do it with MapUpdater, POI Loader or MapInstall before why so many problems now with Express?

Updated firmware and Map

Updated 760 and 3597 using Garmin Express. No problems except that the recent firmware update for the 3597 failed to install on the first reboot of the nuvi. Garmin Express detected the failed install and did it again in about one minute - this time successful. I see this as positive because the software was able to overcome a problem and succeed in updating the firmware and map.

There are a great many more people stating GE worked flawlessly for them than those stating it didn't. That leads me to believe the difference is related to the computer used and the setup of those machines. One of the biggest problems with any software running on personal computers is the differences in how each machine has been customized and the other software installed. They just can't see how someone would tweak this or that or install this program over that one which would affect their program.

Map Update

Thanks for the info

Large JCV File

The large JCV file (D3060170A.JCV) is available for download at GPS Underground for anyone tired of waiting on Garmin to act in a responsible manner.

Many times it is your computer...

I am not a computer tech but have had enough experience working with some over the years when a specific program had to be installed on a work computer that required certain settings within windows or it would not work properly.
Garmin has no way of knowing and the cost to provide tech support for every person who has issues certainly would mean updates would cost money to recoup the expenses of tech support.
Nothing is free. If GE works with say 80%-90% of computers then in all likelihood your computer has had settings changed by you, a program you have installed or the manufacturer of your computer. Garmin can't figure it out without looking at your computer and again somebody has to flip the bill for this. Either you pay or everyone else has to pay so you get free help.
Remember when I bought my first Garmin. Think it was like $200. Then every update was $40-$50. Now you buy one for around $100 with free updates and traffic. Something has to give.
I understand the frustration when a program doesn't work but realize that every program can't be made to work with every computer without tweaking it.

Wait a Bit

I will wait a few more days before updating my 2460 and 3580 units.

I wonder when Garmin will reduce the next map edition. Perhaps July, with just three updates in 2015? That would explain why they removed the four times/year in their recent user agreement update.

Is it a multi-part download?

jwillum wrote:

I'm in the process the JCV file for my 1450. The d/l says it's part one (D3060170A_JCV.part1.rar). Does that mean that there's more than one d/l involve to get the large JCV? I'm downloading it but I'm confused.

Phil

Edit: Okay, the above named file finished downloading but it's only about 512KB in size - obviously not the entire file. What's the right way to download the large JCV file?

Garmin Support says

Why do I receive a "Failed. Try again?" error message when installing Garmin Express on a PC?

02/16/2015

If the Garmin Express installer is unable to successfully install Garmin Express to the PC, a "Failed. Try Again?" error message is displayed. If this occurs:

Click the "Failed. Try Again?" button to retry the installation. The installation will often be successful the second time.

Verify that the computer meets the system requirements for Express. These requirements are posted at www.garmin.com/express.

Ensure the user profile has administrative rights. Installing Garmin Express as a standard user or guest account is not recommended.

Computers owned by businesses often have restrictions set up to prevent the installation of unauthorized programs. If using a business computer, contact the IT department responsible for the computer or try installing Garmin Express on a personal computer.

Restart the computer and try again.

Garmin Express should not be prevented from installing by most consumer antivirus programs. However, if the antivirus being used has out-of-date definitions or is more aggressive than standard consumer antivirus, disabling the antivirus program may allow Garmin Express to install.

After these indications are followed, Garmin Express should be able to successfully install. If the issue persists, contact Garmin Product Support.

Cannot Install Garmin Express - Corrupt Windows Profile?

Can we assume you are running Windows 7? If so here is a YouTube video that clearly explains how to remedy a corrupt Windows profile.

Before doing this, please at least reboot the computer and turn off any antivirus or firewall to confirm that Garmin Express still cannot be installed.

Garmin Express (GE) is involved in syncing, updating, etc. these various devices using the user's computer. If one looks at the "Change History" of GE, very few of the changes have related to devices that can accept "POIs".

If one goes to https://forums.garmin.com/forum.php and looks at the various Forums, one gets a better feel for what GE is dealing with.

Having spent most of my career in Information Technology, I am not trying to excuse the developers and programmers; they should not have allowed many of the errors that have cropped up.

However, as Box Car and Frside007 have noted, asking programmers to think of every possible situation that could occur with millions of user's computers with thousands of other software packages running (including adware and malware) is a bit too much to expect for a device that costs a hundred or so dollars.

.

Zell, is it safe yet?
