2015.40

I just completed the 2015.40 update to a clone of my 3597LMTHD using Garmin Express 4.0.11.0. It took a little over an hour and no issues were encountered. Here are some file sizes:

alandbThanks For Posting Files

Noticed completely different ASR file names from the 2015.30 to 2015.40 ASR files. Appears you have the correct amount of ASR and SID files for your 3597.
The map size hasn't increased too much.

One more updated file for 3597

I missed one file in my above list that was updated on the 3597:

Updating, as I type ...

It says it'll take over 2 hours to install to both the computer and the device, which isn't surprising.

Darn! I was hoping we'd go to page 10 in the other thread. Oh, well.

Full Screen Full Coverage JCV file

I have completed the 2015.40 map update on a clone of my 755T, and Garmin Express did again provide the Full Screen Full Coverage JCV file. It is as follows:
03/24/2015 11:22 AM 855,090,875 D3060170A.jcv

So far, Garmin has not published this file for separate download, but hopefully they will put it online at some point for those with 8x5 and 14x0 model nuvis. When they do, you should be able to find it with this link:

The PC version of Garmin Express 4.0.11.0 correctly handled the ASR files for this update. I suspect the Mac version will too.

3597 update

Just updated a 3597LMTHD with latest 4.70 software. I used GE 4.0.11.0. The first attempt failed in an error. A 2nd attempt succeeded with an overall download/install time (included the 1st failed attempt) to GPS and computer of 1.75 hr with a 50Mbps ISP.

Projected "time remaining" was wildly off, not only for the download but for map prep. File copying estimates were on the spot.

As alandb reported already, the srx and asr files in the ASR folder were replaced leaving no ghost files. Other files matched his report. The DEM map was retained (which may not be the case if GarminMapUpdater was used).

All in all, a successful map update with the exception of the first failed Garmin Express attempt. The 2nd installation attempt worked fine.

More update reports to follow (for a nuvi 855 and 2460).

nuvi 855

I just finished the 2015.40 update for a clone of my nuvi 855. Again Garmin Express installed a small (crippled) JCV file even though there was plenty of room on the clone for the full coverage file. I will of course copy the full coverage file from my 755T. The small JCV file downloaded by Express is as follows:
03/24/2015 12:13 PM 26,125,678 D3153170A.jcv

Express did handle the ASR file correctly by deleting the old file. Here are the new files for the 855:
03/24/2015 12:13 PM 2,758,125 05DMEN0G.SRX
03/24/2015 12:24 PM 806,999,912 05DMEN0H.ASR

All went smooth and fast with latest GE update software

From the time I plugged my 3790LMT into my desktop computer to the time it was done installing the new map update to both the 3790 and my computer was just barely over 1 hour.

All files were replaced correctly and even the DEM file was properly updated and named.

This was my first time using GE to do a map update and all went very smooth.

Updated in under 2 hours, and Garmin Express (4.0.11.0) scrubbed the old ASR files, installing new ones.

Not too bad!

All Went Well With MapUpdater

However, slow as watching paint dry with my 50MPS ISP.
Left no orphaned ARS, SRX, and SID files on my 2460 with Voice Command. It installed one of each ASR, SRX,and SID files for the model 2460LMT.

Nuvi 855 setup for 2015.40

I have copied the 2015.40 updated map files (including the full coverage JCV file from my 755T) from the clone of my 855 over to the 855 itself. As owners of the 855 know, there is not enough space in internal storage to hold the map and the full coverage JCV file, so something has to go to the SD card. In past map versions, I have put the full coverage JCV file on the SD card and had everything else in internal storage. This has worked OK, but this time I am doing something different.

Now I have the full NA map and the full coverage JCV file in internal storage. I have moved the voice recognition (.ASR and .SRX) files to the SD card in folder \Garmin\ASR. Note that the .srd files in the ASR folder must remain in internal storage.

With this setup, I still have 168 MB of free space in internal storage. This should be plenty of work space for favorites, custom POI's and the trip log.

The full coverage JCV file for 2015.40 is 815 MB. The ASR/SRX files are about 772 MB.

Since I don't use the voice recognition very much, this seems like a better arrangement than the way I have done it in the past.

Mapsource.

Mapsource is a discontinued product. There are no updates for it.

When you install the map update, if you select the option to install to both device and computer, it will install Basecamp in addition to the map. You can then uninstall Basecamp, and the map will remain installed on the computer and can be accessed by Mapsource.

..it seems like this link to the large JCV is dead or off-line.

I had to make three attempts at getting the new map onto my 3597. First two attempts were through Garmin Express - - both failed after a 10 minutes or so.

I then grabbed Garmin MapUpdater and it was clear sailing with that. I said to install to device + computer. I was only going to get the lower 49 states but a warning popped up and said something to the effect that 'voice navigation would not work unless I took the entire (full) map', which I ultimately did. All else appears well.

Downloading as we type ... Garmin Express says 38 minutes to download ... god knows how long to install to computer and GPS.

Oh well, figure since I have two GPS to update, this is the way to go.

Love being an "early adopter" of Garmin map updates. Must be a masochist .... 50 shades of Garmin Express.

That brings up another question. I'm wondering had you downloaded North America only (US & Canada) if the same message would appear.

Another thing I don't know is are there any LM models that have Voice Command but only come with the lower 49 states. I would think none do since Voice Command only comes on the better models.

Alan I'm just wondering why you would proceed in this manner rather than installing directly onto the unit ? Do you keep & use the maps from the SD card ?

canuk, I always use cloning for map updates because I don't trust Garmin software. So with cloning, I can "see" what the update process has done without affecting my working device. If everything looks good, I copy the updated files from the clone over to the real device. In fact, with a little file renaming, you can test the new map on the Garmin Device from the cloned SD card before replacing your old working map. On this update however, I did not do any testing. Everything looked good, so I just copied the updated files.

Although the current version of Garmin Express seems to be pretty solid for map updates, there have been too many cases in the past with both Express and MapUpdater where the map update screwed something up.

Trouble with GE.

When I open Garmin Express with the Nuvi hooked up it should take me to my Dashboard but it doesn't. It just sits there. When I want to open my Dashboard on the Garmin site I get an HTTP500 Error. Anybody knows what's going on?

When I first got the Nuvi I opened Garmin Express and everything wend smooth and it downloaded the latest map but now it wont work.

Both the Nuvi 660 and Nuvi

Both the Nuvi 660 (Maps--lower 49-- on SD Card)and Nuvi 2689 (Internally) downloaded and installed fine, in less time than what was first displayed...

Latest GE was what was used on both

Do you mean the website myDashboard? ...or part of GE? I don't understand why GE would take you to a browser web site if that's what you're saying.

What version of GE is installed?

Is/are your nuvi(s) added to GE with "Add a device" yet?

I wanted to open my Dashboard manually

I suggest it has to do with the amount of available space on the various Nuvi's internal storage and what was originally on the devices when they were manufactured/refurbished.
