I find this surprising since Garmin discontinued the model almost a year ago.
Shelf supply?
It almost makes you wonder if Garmin did another production run after the unit was discontinued. Either that or there was a huge inventory of unsold units, but it seemed like there was a shortage of 3597's for sale for several months. The 3597 continues to be pretty propular, at least among members of this forum. If the units are continuing to sell, maybe Garmin decided to do another production run.

3597 NOT Discontinued
Garmin may have discontinued it at some point but is no longer on the discontinued list and shows available for purchase although not through Garmin.
Price listed at Garmin site is 329.99.
It shows under both the 2013 and 2014 lines and you must purchase through a dealer since there is no "add to cart" button.
It seems this is the only model from the 2014 line that you can't buy direct from Garmin, seems a bit strange to me.

Edited: I stand corrected, it looks like the 2639, 2689, 2789, are also not available to buy direct from Garmin, only from dealers.

Best Buy has had them in stock again for a while
Best Buy has had them available both on line and in stores for a while now. They even had it promoted in a recent weekly ad.
I checked stock here in Tucson when I saw the ad and there were 4 stores near me that had it available for immediate pick up in the store.
I think they started producing them again rather than trying to develop a new flagship unit.

I also tend to believe that Garmin is continuing to produce this unit which is excellent news for all GPS enthusiasts
