Thanks
for the heads-up.
Large .jcv
Do you realize that Garmin has not made the large full screen JCV file available for download? The file(s) your downloading are the files that a member obtained with the map update for his Nuvi and posted to a download site for our use if someone wanted it
Thanks for the replies alandb and selfruler on the full screen .jcv. I'm kind of going by what t923347 said about the file not being released yet.
Been Busy
First time I have been on this site in about 2 weeks. Work has had me swamped and it has basically been work and then unwinding. Luckily I have some downtime today so I am now running the 2015.40 update on my 765. I am using GarminMapUpdater.exe version v3.3.4 which is my preferred method of updating.
I support the right to keep and arm bears.

Thanks for info on the release!
Garmin nuvi 2595LMT; Android 5.0 (Samsung GS3)
Nuvi 660
Download to the PC went well.
Installation didn't.
I have maps with no local streets, just major highways and Interstates. Checked all the Nuvi settings, same as for 2014_10 maps that displayed correctly.
Before I remove the maps from the SD card in the Nuvi and redownload, any other suggestions?
TIA
Nuvi 660
What
What is showing as the maps being used by the 660?
To check this go to Tools - Settings - Map - Map Info. Is 2015.40 listed there? If it is, is there a checkl beside the entry?
What your seeing the built in "base map" that is in the Nuvi's memory and is always available if routeable street maps are not detected. If 2015.40 is not listed under Map Info then the map update failed somehow. If the 2015.40 is listed then the map update was probably successful but you need to tap the screen beside the entry to select it for use (put a checkmark beside it)

Thanks...
I should have noted the map info. button is not highlighted nor functioning.
I tried uninstalling the 2015.40 maps on the SD card and reinstalling the maps I saved from 2014_10.
660 still does not display local streets and the map info. button does not function.
I agree somehow the download/install did not go correctly but the 2014_10 maps now don't display correctly.
I would hate to think somehow the 660 is near toast, I had the touchscreen repaired last summer and still enjoy this unit! All was fine before the map update.
Nuvi 660
No selectable Map button
I get that sometimes when I set up a new SD card with the maps.. I forget to put the map into a Garmin folder.. Make the folder then the MAP icon is selectable because there is a map available now.. Just a FYI..
Reduced region

The 660 is limited to a maximum file size of 2 GB. The CN NA map is > 2 GB. You will need to install a smaller region to internal memory, then use MapInstall to install the remaining regions to the SD card, making sure that each file is < 2 GB.
Start out by using Garmin Express to install the full NA map to computer only. This will install BaseCamp and MapInstall if you don't already have these programs. Then run MapInstall to install the partial regions to internal memory and SD. See this FAQ: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/31185

...to all, I do now remember about <2g file sizes, although I now need three sessions to get all the maps I paid for. For the first I successfully installed my home state and city on the internal Nuvi memory, now I need to split the rest of the maps into two chunks for the SD card.
Installing session two now.
Thanks to alanb and all the smart people here who do such a terrific job of addressing these issues!
Nuvi 660
2 maps on SD card.
@LennyD51 ... Let us know how that works for you. For some reason, I didn't think the Nuvi 660 allowed for 2 supplemental map files (gmapsupp and gmapsup1) on SD. I know the gmapsup1 support was added on some older nuvi models, but I didn't think the 660 was one of them.

For the nuvi 7xx series, the ability to add a 2nd supplemental map to the SD card was added in a software update in June 2012. I think several series' devices offered this feature at the same time through an offered update.
The nuvi 6xx series devices were last software updated in March 2010, well before the 2nd supplemental map was offered to these older devices:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=1925
I therefore think that the only way to obtain North America on a nuvi 660 is to let the map update process offer the largest map possible to the internal nuvi storage, then use MapInstall from the computer-based map to install the remainder of North America to the SD card as a single supplemental map.
Right again!
I am just finding this out, a second map install to the SD card overwrites the first!
Craig is right in that I will have to get creative in putting as much in the internal memory as allowable, then supplement the rest to the SD card.
Thanks, guys!

Don't know if this will help or not but if you could put a gmapsupp.img file on 2 different Sd cards and just swap them out as you need the data covered by the maps on each card. It could be a bit cumbersome but if you normally only travel in say, east of the Mississippi, then put all that map detail on one SD card and the western NA on the other card which would rarely need to be inserted into the Nuvi.

multiple maps
If i remember correctly for quite some time Garmin GPS accepts few map files at once on card. They just must have different names. So just install first map as usual, than go and change it's name(like add 1 to name - just don't change extension!), and than install second map on card.I don't have new enough Nuvi to try it, but at time it was one of awaited future for Nuvi.
Just be careful, as if maps are covering this same area it nay cause problems during routing. Solution was to disable one of maps.
My 2 Cents

The 660 only permits one map on an SD card and it MUST be named gmapsupp.img, YOU CANNOT RENAME IT.
I agree with you that you should not have maps checked that cover the same area, it does cause routing problems as well as the search feature for that particular state.
Case in point, for some reason Garmin decided that the City Navigator South America should include Florida which is on all North America maps. That will cause issues if both maps are loaded and traveling in Florida.
I think the best method is to split the map in half, keeping the area most traveled on the Nuvi, and the other half on the SD card. This should allow some extra free memory on the Nuvi to function efficiently and still have full coverage of the map.
Just need to be careful when splitting the map as not to overlap states.

This is exactly what I am doing.
The contiguous 48 states, and all of the Southern Mexican regions plus the Caribbean regions in the NA map fit on the Nuvi's memory.
Alaska, and all the Canadian Provinces go onto the SD card (along with music, pics, etc.).
It is tricky to not duplicate maps!

Map Update
Finally got around to updating to the latest version this past weekend. Went fairly smoothly. Everything appears to be working. Sure glad this website is here. After reading a number of tips, the transition to the new map was a bit less painful.
As many others have said, good to have so many knowledgeable folks here.
Thanks

Mary, I think it restores the Settings categories to their default values. It is similar to a system reset, but only affects the settings.

I have heard some on here say to reset after map update. I thought this might be that. Do you do a reset after each update?

Reset after map upcate
I do a master reset after a map update if I have a bunch of saved routes/trips that need to be recalculated with the new map. If I only have 1 or 2 saved routes, I will sometimes just manually recalculate those routes and skip the master reset.

I've
I've never recalculated any saved routes after a map update or a reset. Wouldn't the Nuvi recalculate the route/trip when you first used it again anyway? I't seems to me that when you load a trip at any point the first thing it does, after you pick your first destination, is to calculate the route.

On my nuvis ...
On my nuvis after a map update, existing routes show strait lines between waypoints when I try to navigate them. They don't follow the roads and therefore don't announce turn-by-turn prompts.
To correct this, I select the route or trip for edit, change the navigation mode from fastest to shortest, then back to fastest. This corrects the strait line issue. I have tried to just select Recalculate on the edit menu, but it still shows the strait lines.
The other way to fix it is to do a system reset and reinstall the favorites and routes.
I have observed this behavior with all 3 of my nuvis. Next time I do a map update, I will try to remember to take a screen shot and post it here.

Alan, if you will make this post into a semi-FAQ, I would like to include it in the "Common Problems and their Solutions" FAQ. If you will send it to me, I will include it and give you the credit.
John
@alandb
Is this problem existing every time you update maps? I never had it on my 770, and I did quite few updates. Do you have latest firmware on yours units?
Yes, latest firmware.
I do not test every time; it is easier just to recalculate the routes and avoid any potential problems. But if others do not have this issue, it seems it would be inappropriate to add it to a FAQ.
Like I said earlier, I will test it on the next map update on all 3 of my nuvis. If I can reproduce the problem, I will post some screen shots.

It doesn't look like it. I need one for my 1390T. I have a feeling that Garmin is trying to force us into upgrading and buying a new GPS.
