Where did you get the large jcv file? As far as I can tell, Garmin hasn't offered it for download yet.

I used 4.0.11.0 and it worked well. It's a quick update from earlier versions so you may be wise to update GE before trying the map update. Good luck.

strange error

I have a 1450lm and when I went to dl the update it said I didn't have enough room on my sd card, my sd card is 4gig, so ok I format it, dl took about an hr, ge said all went well 1 upon rebooting checked maps all updated fine checked my fav's and there were some strange numbers upon clicking them I find they were fav's that I had entered so I deleted them and re entered them, and no the numbers were not cords they were random, never had that happen before .the jcv file installed was the small one. I used GE for the update.

Updated: No issues noted

Used GE for the update on the 2595. Start-to-finish was a relatively fast 40 minutes. I have not checked the ASR files yet, but did note the free space on the unit is about the same as it has always been on this unit: +- 2.x g free out of 8.0g total.

It might be that you have some .gpx files that the device is trying to use. Could that be the case? Check both the device as well as the SD card.

If anyone ever uses a .gpx file to add "Favorites", best practice is to verify that the "Favorites" were added and then attach the device and delete the .gpx files.

2015.40 Disabled my 2350LMT

My attempt to install CN North America NT 2015.40 on my 2350LMT failed. When I connected the unit to my Mac and launched Garmin Express version 4.0.11.0 the following message appeared on the screen:

Map Update Notice

The following map data is more than a year old and should be updated:

CN North America NT 2014.40

To purchase updated map data, go to www.garmin.com/mapupdates

At that point my Garmin’s screen froze and I have been unable to navigate to a different screen or even turn the unit off. It is now plugged into a wall outlet by a recharging cable, but that did not change the screen.

The Garmin Nüvi 2350LMT recently went out of production although several are still available for sale on Amazon. Inn the past, one of more map updates could be installed on obsolete Garmin GPS units. In this case, my 2350LMT seems to have been disabled and cannot be used at all.

If your question is whether the 1450 needs the manual download, I agree that I expected the 1450 would receive the small file and therefore would need the manual download of the large one. If muell9k is correct, then our thoughts are incorrect.

It does seem odd to me since the 1450 is only a 2GB device, so my thought is that it would not have room for the large JCV being auto-installed by the map update process:

CN NA 2015.40 File Size?

I successfully downloaded 2015.40 to my 2557 and my Mac using Garmin Express. The download went smoothly with no errors. When looking at the map file sizes I see that CN NA 2015.30 is 4.66 GB and CN NA 2015.40 is 3.07 GB. What is going on?

How did you determine your map file size?

oldpal wrote:

The new 2015.40 map update has a map file (gmapprom.img) of 2,448,162,816 bytes while the previous 2015.30 map's filesize was 2,368,667,648 bytes. The new map is therefore about 3.4% larger than the previous map. You must be including other files or something to come up with the file sizes you are reporting.

On the 8x5 series (4 GB unit) you never get the full coverage JCV file on a map update, even if there is plenty of space for it. This is easily proved by using a clone for the map update. I would be surprised if the 2 GB 14xx would give the full coverage JCV on a map update, but it might. There is one major difference in the map update process between the 8x5 and the 14xx, and that is that Garmin Express/MapUpdater will recognize an SD card in the 14xx, but not in the 8x5.

It certainly could be that the 1450 with a SD card can receive the full map update plus the large JCV by default. I hadn't expected that possibility since that makes the map updater software much smarter than I expected it to be; i.e., if the map update process is directed to a large SD card for the nuvi 1450, then it can receive the large JCV file while if the map is installed internally or to a small SD card, it will receive the small JCV file.

Can a 1450 owner who's updated to 2015.40 already shed some light on this based on what their update provided?

jcv file

I downloaded the new 2015.40 map and the jcv file was the small one.
d3153170a.jcv
im looking to make sure I get the full jcv with lane assist ! which of these 2 files should I get
I have a nuvi 1450 lm.
d3060170a.jcv or d2335200a.jcv for the upper 48 states map?
also I have a 4 gig sd card
ok I figured it out I used the d2335200A.jcv all is good ran it on the simulator it was the full screen

Point well taken that the 1450 only has 2GB internal memory therefore no room for larger JCV file.
However it can be on an SD card.

What's surprising is memeber pilot04's statement of Thanks and upgraded my 1450 and 810 with 2015.40 maps without any issues and the larger jcv file.

He doesn't mention if he had an SD mounted or not.
If by default the 1450 uses the smaller JCV file then I wonder how he got the large one if it's not available on a separate download.

With MapUpdater, the update went smoothly without a hitch.

The gmapdem on the 3597 still got wiped out as it has been. Restored from a backup copy and all is well.

Don't give up yet

Call Garmin and explain what happened. They are usually very helpful. You do have lifetime maps and the 2350 isn't exactly stone-age. I would also suggest you try again with Map Updater this time and if that doesn't work try again with the latest version of Garmin Express. No matter what the issue is, you shouldn't have been left with a bricked unit.

Try holding the power button (for at least 30 seconds) to see if you can get the unit to shut down. If you get it to shut down, cross your fingers, plug it back into the computer and see if it will mount as a mass storage device. Then retry the map update.

Started the updates process...

earlier today by updating Garmin Express to the latest v4.0.11.0 for PC.

Got out the 2455LMT and connected it to the laptop. Explored the available map update information in GE. Started the update and GE promptly put up an error message. Oh No!

Disconnected the GPS, restarted GE, reconnected the GPS and restarted the update. Everything started fine after that. No idea what caused the original error. The update took 44 minutes from start to finish once everything worked.

Left GE up and running. Got out the 2555LMT (with memory expansion card) and connected it to the laptop. Started the update and everything ran great. Start to finish for the update was 21 minutes. Didn't think the update times were bad considering they were done on an older laptop with a 2.2 GHz processor and a 50MB internet connection.

Haven't had time to test either unit in operation, but all looks normal. Put it this way - 2 thumbs up with 2 units now running CN North American NT 2015.40 ALL maps!

Update

I have updated 3 Nuvis tonight, no problems and the fastest update ever. Hope everything is there.

Install with .ASR and .SRX files on an SD card

It would be interesting to see how the installer handles the .ASR and .SRX files on an SD card for the next map update with a normal install (non-clone). Would it replace the files or just copy the new ones to internal storage.

This pretty much confirms that the 14xx map update handles the JCV file the same way as it does with the 8x5. Both CraigW and I thought this was the case but it is good to have it confirmed by a 14xx owner.

Thanks for your reply. Looks take I didn't receive the larger JVC file. My device comes with the split screen junction view. I noticed that that download listed from the POI factory doesn't work to receive the larger 2015.40 jvc file from Garmin.

Battery-caused glitch?

Maybe it was just bad timing/coincidence and the battery was too low to process a successful download. If the problem persists after charging it up, give Garmin a call for help. You shouldn't have to buy the update. They are usually pretty decent to deal with.

When checked this morning, the battery of my Nüvi 2350LMT was dead. When I started recharging it the unit came on normally and presented the Map Update Notice as before. But this time I was able to navigate to the "Startup" screen. Once the battery is charged I'll try to install the new map set. I'll let you all know what happens.

I do think that if my 2350LMT can run 2015.40 if I buy it on www.garmin.com/mapupdates I out to be able to download it via its LMT status. If not, it indicates a major marketing policy change by Garmin.

If you have the 2350LMT model, you should NOT have to buy a map update UNLESS YOU HAVE NOT UPDATED YOUR MAPS IN TWENTY FOUR MONTHS OR LONGER.

That is the policy change you may be inquiring about.

Just updated to 2415.40 without incidents on my ancient 260 with life-time map. Have been doing regular map-updates mainly for sentimental reason and to keep the life-time status active.

Large JCV file

I get "file not found" when I try the links for the large JCV file...
