Huzzah!

Great news. Time to start the updates.

I suppose we shouldn't ask about 2015.40 here either. twisted

To add some useful material, the large JCV file appears not to be offered yet as a manual download. Also, for those planning to use GarminMapUpdater rather than Garmin Express, the GMU version remains at 3.3.3 (PC version) so there's not a need to download fresh if you have a saved copy on your computer.

Thanks for the heads up

Will give it a download try and see how busy it is now.

Updating

Downloading now using MapUpdater. Update completed with no problems.

2015.30

A large (or full screen) JCV not available yet? Will have to download the map first anyway.

Very happy you started a new thread for the map. Saves a lot of headaches. Thanks.

I'm waiting

No I'm not waiting for it to download, I'm trying to wait until I hear about success for those that have already started to download. I don't know that I can, but each minute I wait is ... Oh heck, I can't wait!

Update on 2015.30

Love Verizon FIOS. Four minutes to download. Two minutes to build on my new Dell windows 8.1 PC and 24 minutes to load on the Garmin.

Completed the new map download & note on gmapdem file rename

rjrsw wrote:

Update:

I completed the 2015.30 update using Mapdownload software version 3.3.3 and all went smooth.

15 minutes to download all the map update files
48 minutes to complete map prep and install to both my 3790LMT and to my desktop computer

63 minutes total time from pluging in the 3790 to completion of install

For those who have units that also use the DEM file to display the ground rendering effects a new DEM file was downloaded but I had to rename that file to "gmapdem" to get it to display the ground rendering effects properly.

express

download took 15 min, install took 30 min and guess what "error installing" and when I tried to see what effect it had on my gps It was killed !! lol so I deleted the download from my puter and deleted a couple of files from my gps that was updated. so now starting from scratch and rebooting my puter and starting garmin express again redownloading and installing again success yea, and all my junk and favorites were still ok . whew lol

nuvi 2460 - GarminMapUpdater

nuvi 2460 was successfully installed to device and computer with GarminMapUpdater 3.3.3.

Simulated a route: my chosen voice & vehicle remain as they were, JVs display and route went well. Map useable with Mapsource and Basecamp from computer.

All is well in the world.

OK, 30 days and counting

OK, 30 days and counting until I download it.

Nuvi 3760 - GarminMapUpdater 3.3.3

Nuvi 3760 installation was successful. I did not time the process but it was reasonably quick.

Big Surprise: The option to install an SD card was offered because of limited space on the 3760. First time I have received the offer. Did nothing to request it but glad to have it. Worked well and caused no issues.

Of course, the 3760 gets a very limited split-screen JCV file (just 162 mb), so I am waiting for the complete full screen JCV file to be available. If it does not become available, I will be looking for someone who can provide a copy of the full split-screen JCV file.

Downloading

I'm currently downloading, and Garmin Express shows it is downloading 2-updates for my Zumo 590 device and the computer:

1. Full Coverage of North America 2015.3 0
2. NuMaps Lifetime North America Download 2015.30

It seems like I am getting duplicate downloads. Is this because I'm asking for the both the device and computer to be updated? Or is it that I have a Nuvi 765T with nuMaps?

oh

It is because you are updating both the device and computer.

Agreed

Agreed. I updated my 3597 with GarminMapUpdater and also had the same issue as has occurred with previous map updates: the DEM map (the same filesize and likely the identical DEM map as before) was renamed D224800B.img from the correct gmapdem.img. With the D filename, the DEM map does not display. Renaming the file returns the DEM display.

I can also report that the current map update also revises and updates the 3D map file. I haven't tested it since I'm not near a city with 3D bldg. offerings.

I realize that the DEM issue may only occur with GarminMapUpdater and that Garmin is steering us towards using Garmin Express instead. But from past experience, Garmin has had to tell folks to use GarminMapUpdater when GE fails on a map update. Given that GarminMapUpdater is still of use, it's surprising that Garmin continues to have the DEM filename error and hasn't revised the map update file or GarminMapUpdater program to end this error. I really wonder how many Garmin owners with devices that can display DEM maps have lost the DEM map overlay due to this problem.

But all in all, GarminMapUpdater successfully updated my 3597 and computer with the new map, including the DEM map after I manually renamed it.

Easy

Easy enough to check the 3D buildings. Just put your Nuvi in Simulation Mode and go to a city like Chicago or Seattle or Phoenix and zoom into the downtown areas. The buildings should display in 3D.

Updated all 3 nuvi's

I have updated the maps on all 3 of my nuvi's (3597LMTHD, 755T and 855). I used the cloning method for all 3 so I could see what was updated, then copied the updated files over to the devices.

This time I decided to use Garmin Express instead of Map Updater. Express worked well without any issues. Express did not update or rename the gmapdem.img file on the 3597, so that error only exists in Map Updater. It seems like Garmin finally has most of the problems solved in Express.

Of course I got the puny JCV file on the 855 and had to copy the full coverage full screen file over from the 755T. I can still fit the full NA map and full coverage JCV file on the 755T internal storage, so no SD card needed there. But on the 855, the full coverage JCV file needs to go on the SD card.

Update Completed!

Just finished updating the new (to me) 2555LMT using Garmin Express. Did the 2015.2 and device software updates a couple of days ago when first starting the new unit. Today's update to 2015.3 took about 40 minutes total from the time I pressed the "Install All" button; 15 min to download and the rest building and installing to the unit.

Update done using an old laptop running a 2.2GHz B960 Intel with 4 GB of memory. No other big processes running. Didn't think that was to bad smile

No problems encountered and the unit appears to be working correctly. Garmin Express seems to be a stable way to do the updates.

Update complete

GE did fine with no hiccups. Although our COX internet connection periodically got really slow at times.

Took a while for GE to realize that I'm on Firmware 4.40. I won't d/l 4.60 and will wait for the next update, which will hopefully fix the external power source problem.

updated with Garmin MapUpdater

Thanks T923347 for the heads up.

Updated both the 3597 and the 2495. First on 3597. Took 30min to download/5min to prepare and 30 min to install. Then on the 2495: no time to download/~2min to prepare and ~20 min to install. Still need to rename the gmapdem.img file on the 3597 as before. No other issues.

Started downloading. Thanks

2015.3 almost OK

Used GE for down load. Maps on Garmin and Base Camp.
Installed new map and with the 2015.30 map,(as opposed to the 2015.20), I have to zoom in further to have the streets and their names show up. Main roads do show up. At least 2 clicks on mouse wheel allows roads to show up. (What ever that amount is).
On my laptop there is a difference also. Not zoomed in enough and the roads stop on part of map as though they have not been built yet. Main roads show up. One more + click and they show up. Strange. I'll have to be zoomed in closer to use Base Camp.

nuvi 1390 LT, nuvi 1450 LMT, Win 10

a word of warning...

If you have an older nuvi model like the 3490 (specifically in my case) that has a DEM (digital elevation model) map named gmapdem.img, the map update may in fact delete it for you and NOT replace it. Note that it was NOT renamed in my case but simply deleted for no good reason that I could tell (I have 2 GB free space on the device after the map update).

I have yet to update my 3790 (possibly this weekend) so I can't comment on if this malady will affect that unit as well...

Please do yourself a favor and make a FULL backup of your device BEFORE attempting any map update. I have full backups of all my devices so this is how I recovered my deleted gmapdem.img file.

Beautiful!!!

Took 12 min to download and install US & Canada onto 8Gb SD card masquerading as a Garmin 660...
12 Minutes!!! AMAZING!!!

As usual: I cycle between 2 SD cards...
Put older Map card in reader, deleted 3 mapfiles,
Install latest Garmin Express, downloaded the map, changed the 3 filenames, (SD card removed from 660 becomes the new "Old Maps". Install "New Maps", and go for a ride in the car to test things....
When It's all OK, Un-Install Garmin Express....

And I'm waiting for the next Map Update to do it all over again!!! smile!

P.S. It just occurred to me that In Between last and this Map Update, Comcast Doubled my Speeds...
So that explains the 12 min time.... I'm now 56/12

Just finished....

...with two units. A 3590 and a 2558. Both units took 5 hours to complete. No problems using GE and the DEM map was unaffected. I haven't noticed any problems with the new maps.

I used Garmin Express (for Mac) with my update and lost the DEM file (deleted on not replaced with anything) so it may not be a MapUpdater only issue.

Installed fine to both a 2598 and to a PC. One thing I noticed, being new to the life time maps and Garmin Express is that the maps download in the background (in part) yesterday when I ran the Garmin Express program, and apparently continued to download in the background even though I closed the program and killed the Garmin Express program that runs in the background. Made installing today go much faster since it didn't have to download the 2+ GB map file on my slow internet connection. It did have to download a few missing pieces to the PC install version though.

And being new to the life time maps, didn't expect it to keep the earlier City Navigator North American NT 2015.20 map version on the PC so it can be access by Basecamp, MapInstall and MapSource when it installed the 2015.30 version. Probably will uninstall 2015.20 at some point to free up space on the PC.
