City Navigator 2015.30 North America has been released.

LETS USE THIS THREAD TO DISCUSS THIS MAP UPDATE AND NOT THE ONE THAT HAS BEEN OPEN FOR A FEW WEEKS MOSTLY MAKING JOKES ABOUT WHEN THE MAP UPDATE WOULD BE RELEASED. That old thread is called City Navigator North America NT 2015.30 and can be found at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/43223

Probably will uninstall 2015.20 at some point to free up space on the PC.

And for others planning to free up space by removing older maps on a PC, do as bennor3814 states and uninstall the older maps. Don't just delete the older map file on the computer. Uninstalling the map will also remove computer registry entries.

Updated

Update took 30mins.total...to 3 of my 3597's using garmin express...no problems!!!

2015.30 and 3597 firmware.

No problems with the map update on my 3597 using GE. I have not seen it noted on this list (but could have missed it), the last firmware update for the 3597 "fixed" the power problem. I now get a message for an invalid power source but after s few seconds the Nuvi drops into normal operation so I can now run my many hours simulation runs and BTW the Nuvi battery does charge!

Thanks, my 855 will appreciate the attention.

Viago map update?

This is somewhat off topic, but I wonder if the 2015.30 map will be offered on the Viago app as an update? Yesterday when I checked my Galaxy Note, no update was offered.

To go one step further one could if they wanted delete the files that were download after they finished installing to their GPS or PC. In Windows 7 the 2015.30 map update files were downloaded to the "C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Core Update Service\MAP-NA-2015-30" folder. Both the GMAPPROM.IMG file and the CityNavigatorNorthAmericaNT2015.30Update.msi and associated folder/files are located in subfolders at that location. The downloaded files take up around 7.75 GB of space on my system.

gmapdem.img over mapupdater-3790

DN, the image does get downloaded on my 3790, but again, it goes to numbers not gmapdem.img. You have to rename it.

But, as you've suggested, back it up first. YMMV.

Update Problem Resolved

Update of maps on Nuvi2460LMT worked but failed on PC. I had tried to change the HD save-to location from C to E but a Registry Problem occurred. Had to contact Garmin Support and they helped to correct the problem. The update to my Nuvi3580LMT and other PC went smoothly.

During the remedy with Garmin they took control of the affected PC (with my permission) and worked the Registry issue to satisfactory conclusion. They also noticed I had all the previous maps saved and indicated I could "uninstall" all except the latest. Regained lots of space on the C drive.

Since I don't just update

Since I don't just update but download the entire mapset for use in BaseCamp, it takes a while. It's likely the wiring in my apartment building rather than Garmin's servers being bogged down, but it took me four hours today to download the maps.

4 hours, That is a crazy long time to downlad maps

Sounds like you have a very slow ISP data download speed or they are throttling your service to limit data speed.

I did the map download for both my 3790 and to my desktop computer to use with Basecamp and the total download took 15 minutes with my Comcast xfinity ISP service.

4 Hours sounds like 3MB ISP Speed

Strephon_Alkhalikoi wrote:

Sounds like you have 3MB internet service since that's about how long it takes to download 4GB or so of data. I'm on a 3MB line and it takes that long to download the map update for both the GPS and the PC.

Next time leave the Garmin Express program running over night so it downloads in the background then come back and install the updates the next morning. Should go much quicker that way.

I wouldn't touch Garmin Express with a ten-foot pole. Put simply, I refuse to use it and rely on MapUpdater, a program that actually works. As for my service, the apartment building won't let Comcast replace the wiring. They're too cheap, and thus the service is severely degraded.

Update on the update...I verified my 3790 had the DEM file on the unit before running GE. After the update, NO DEM file, renamed or otherwise. It was wiped off of the device and replaced by nothing. This is just oddness on Gamin's part...which is pretty much always the norm. rolleyes

What the apartment management is doing is illegal by FCC rules. The apartment complex cannot restrict your use of any provider of telecommunications services. The complex is looking at some hefty fines (up to $16,000 per day per apartment) for blocking you from obtaining or upgrading your cable/phone/Internet service. If you PM me, I'll give you the name of a Communications attorney that will gladly write them a letter. (Not free, but you can collect the costs by going to small claims court if they refuse to pay you back.)

Well not using Garmin Express is your choice. I have no problems using it. I don't leave it running all the time and I have the startup services for it disabled.

Then I wondered if it might be the ISP saying it.

I'm tending to think if you complain enough to the ISP about the problem, the ISP should tangle with the apartment complex.

For those that like using oldies. Map Updater v. 3.3.3 is updating to version NA 2015.3 without problems.

Garmin Servers unreliable

Using Garmin Express I finally got both units updated but Thursday evening I couldn't hold on to a signal with their server. On Friday AM I got the first one done, then Friday afternoon, I had to restart twice before I could connect. Finally it worked,

The general consensus is that you are right regarding comparisons to the split-screen view although I'm not sure that anyone's ever been able to confirm this with an analysis.

The large jcv is photorealistic, so for those folks receiving a non-photorealistic full-screen images by default during map updates (the nuvi 855, for example), the image quality will be better as well as having more JVs when using the large JV.

There are at least 2 sizes for Split Screen JCV files

To clarify: My nuvi 3760 has limited space and only gets a 162mb split screen JCV file. The nuvi 3790 and other units get a much larger 400+mb split screen JCV file.

This means that the split screen JCV file Garmin chooses to bestow on my 3760 is very limited and has only about 1/3 of the JCVs available in the complete split screen JCV file.

The complete split screen JCV file and the complete full screen JCV file both have the same JCVs. It is just the shriveled up, limited split screen JCV file that Garmin chooses for some of us that is a problem.

I could replace the limited split screen JCV file by downloading and installing the complete split screen JCV file. Unlike many folks here, I don't like the split screen JCV setup. I prefer, and choose to download and install, the complete full screen JCV file instead.

So with my 2460's am I getting the full "amount" of junction view files?

I like the split screen because I like to see the route past the sign it shows.

The 2460 has an 8gb memory

The 2460 has an 8gb memory and should get the file with all available split screen JCVs. My 3760 only has 4gb of memory and gets the limited JCV file.

You can check your unit for the size of your JCV file. If it larger than 400mb, you have the full amount of junction views.

If you have a smaller sized file, you would need to download and install the JCV file with larger number of JCVs.

Edit: I don't use the JCVs when driving. I use them only at home to preview the route I will be driving. On the road, I rely on Lane Assist (the arrows in the upper left corner).

I'm pretty sure I've asked this before but your "limited file" made me wonder again, so I wanted to be sure.

I drive for a living and use my 2460 everyday. I use the arrows too but do like seeing the specific sign I'm looking for as well. There are a lot of A & B exits for the roads around here and some times I can't read the small green bar at the top.
