Weigh Station POI

I installed the file to my Garmin Dezl 560 but doesn't alert me about the weigh station I approach. Set it to alert me 3 miles in advance

Any ideas?

Welcome

Welcome to The Factory.

Since you say you set alerts for 3 miles, I assume you used POI Loader in Manual Mode and then set the Weigh Station file to Alert and to alert at 3 miles.

If the above is correct, I can think of two possibilities. One is that your Dezl has a Proximity setting set to Off right now. You can find help in the owners manual on page 62:

http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/dezl_560_OM.pdf

The other possibility is that the POI file uses locations of the actual weight station buildings which are often too far from the roadway and your route and therefore won't cause an alert since you're using an "along the route" alert. The answer in this case is to use a "TourGuide" alert:

Check out the suggestions made and get back to us if you have additional questions. Even better, it'd be great to hear from another trucker using the Custom POI file who is getting alerts.

Locations

I took a quick look at the file with EPE (Extra POI Editor) and it does appear that the coordinates of the station are likely to be more than 30 meters (approximastely 98 feet) from the route. That being the case, then the TourGuide approach should solve the problem.

In fact this is the assumption because the file is named Weigh Station TourGuide.csv.

Now what is needed is literally any .wav file that can be renamed to Weigh Station TourGuide.wav. I would suggest downloading http://www.poi-factory.com/node/41068 which is the "POI Factory Test WAV File.wav" and rename it to "Weigh Station TourGuide.wav". You do not care right now what the sound file says, you only care that it says something.

Let us know if this works. If it alerts (and make sure alerts are enabled in Settings), then we can get you some .wav file that will be more descriptive.

Great find!

Good catch, jg!

Also, if loading files to the dezl with a PC (as opposed to a Mac), sox.exe is needed on the PC. The TourGuide faqs here will let you download the proper sox version with instructions on where to put it.

Welcome to POI Factory.See you have been a member only a few days.

Looking at the Weight Station file I didn't see any wave files associated with it.Shows only MP3's.You will need to install a sound file for the TourGuide file to work .You can convert one of the MP3 to a WAV file see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 and scroll down to near the end of instructions for converting files.

You can make your own WAV files by going to http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say. There are several voices to pick from.

Once you have the WAV file you plan to use make sure to name it the same as the CSV except the extension.Example

Weight Station TourGuide.csv
Weight Station TourGuide.wav
Weight Station TourGuide.bmp

Now make sure you have the right sox.exe and istalled per http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .Make sure that you use POI Loader in manual mode and set the radius alert to your preference.

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for custom poi installation.

Once you get comfortable installing pois you may want to look at this for future reference.Lots of us use this process to build our alerts into the files http://www.poi-factory.com/node/28521

Garmin Dezl

I did what everyone said to do and I have the Weigh Station TourGuide alerting me now, but I can't get the wave file or icon to work. Now what? Not sure where to put them to load up when installing.

You put the wav and bump

You put the wav and bump file in the same folder the Weight Station.csv is in. Rembering to name them the same except for the extensions. Make sure sox.exe in the correct location per the above instructions.

You say that the TourGuide file is alerting you.Are you getting a voice alert?

Garmin Dezl POI

I am not getting the voice alert or the icon to load. Do I still rename the file even though the correct extension is in the properties of the file?

They need to be named per

They need to be named per example to work.Make sure TourGuide is spelled as shown.

Weight Station TourGuide.csv
Weight Station TourGuide.wav
Weight Station TourGuide.bmp

Make sure to follow instructions http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 and see part on hidden extensions problems.

Weigh Station TourGuide

I am getting the voice alert now. I know this because I'm sitting close to a weigh station, but the icon won't load up. Which isn't really a big deal.
