Your bank data may be at risk if you use iPhone, iPad and iPod

"If you haven't updated your iPhone recently, your personal information and possibly your financial data is at risk. As of Wednesday, he said, only 20 percent of Level's users had updated to the latest version of iOS."

The biggest concern is for people that use public WiFi like you find at Starbucks and McDonalds. But it's a good idea to upgrade the OS anyway which is what I did.

Updates

Most users update their Iphones on a regular basis.

The SSL vulnerability

The SSL vulnerability affects iOS 6 and 7 and some version of Mac OS that I know nothing about.

as usual

You can't fix stupid. If they are so limited that can't update their software, there is nothing you can do, to protect those people. This is same category that will send virus via email to friends, because email said, that they will have good luck if send enough copies to other people.

People with at least average intelligence are aware that in those days updates have to be done regularly.

If smartphones are so smart,

If smartphones are so smart, why can't they update themselves, or at the very least notify you that an update is pending?

iDevices download iOS update automatically when the device is plugged in and connected to the internet. Installation still requires user intervention (manually touch a button to update). At the moment, I believe there is no option to disable iOS (update) auto download. I don't like that at all because it takes up the already limited storage space. You are notified when it's ready to install (I got notification on my iPad).

Honestly, I'd be really pissed if my device auto install/update the operating system without asking me first.

In the iPad 3 version IOS 7.0.6.

Settings, iTunes & App Store, Automatic Downloads.
I can select Music, Apps, Books and Updates to be on or off.

I receive a indication that there is a update but as best I can tell it does not download the IOS update.

I have always used iTunes to update the iOS.

It's in the apps

That's not it. I set it to OFF the first day I got the iPad because I don't want auto download anything without my permission.

I'm not the only one experiencing this iOS auto download behavior. If you don't believe me, when there's a new update, leave you iPad plugged in and connected to the internet. You'll get the new version automatically but it won't auto install until you touch "Install Now" button.

My iPod Touch runs iOS 5.1.1 and I don't want to update to 6.x so I know for sure I've never touched anything to download iOS 6. Now I see 6.1.6 (status shows: Downloaded) and ready to install. Must have been downloaded while it's charging and connected to the web.

I Don't Have To Worry...

At least I don't have to worry about any of that seeing I don't own/have either a IPhone, IPad or IPod.

Thanks for the info

I always install updates whenever available and never look at the reason for them. Good to know I installed this one.

Do you have any credit cards? Do you use them? Do they ever leave your sight when you use them? If you answer yes to any of these questions, you're at risk. Another question. Do you trust the waiter/waitress that runs your credit card when you eat out?
