CN North America 2014.30 Available For Download

I'm in the process of downloading now.
I thought I'd start a new thread rather than continue the original that's at 7 pages. I'm sure they're will be lots more discussions with user experiences.

Member t923347 posted the release in the other thread and he stated Mapupdater wouldn't work for him and had to use Garmin Express. I do not have a problem with MapUpdater and it is what I'm using for the download.

Again

I just updated the maps only on my other PC. After installing them, I started BaseCamp, selected the new 2014.30 maps and closed BaseCamp.

I then went into Control Panel and uninstalled the previous maps (2014.20) just like I usually do. When I went to start BaseCamp, it wouldn't start. Looking in the program folder, all the files are gone. shock

I had to reinstall BaseCamp on that PC, too. confused

I used Map Updater on both PCs just as I have done in the past. The 1st PC is Win7 and the one I updated this morning is WinXP.

Strange! I've never had BaseCamp get wiped out by uninstalling the previous map version in Control Panel.

Uninstall Map In Control Panel?

I'm puzzled on your post, please correct me if I am wrong or have misread your post.

I'm not a user of Basecamp, however I can't imagine Basecamp would enable any entry into Control Panel to remove a map. Control Panel removes programs not files such as a Garmin Map. If the maps are stored in the Basecamp folder then by removing the Program (Basecamp) the map is also removed.

Control Panel

Garmin Map Updates are installed like any other program and are displayed in Control Panel. When I install the new map update, both are listed in Add/Remove Programs. I select the older map update and uninstall it, leaving only the current map update.

You can also see in the screenshot that BaseCamp has the same installed date as the map update. That's because I had to install BaseCamp after it got clobbered when I uninstalled map update 2014.20.

There may be a way to transfer maps from MapSource, but I am not sure about that.

It is simple to upload/send the whole maps or regions of maps in Mapsouce to a Garmin GPS:

1. Connect GPSs to computer.
2. Run Mapsouce. Open the map that you want. Highlight a region that you would like to transfer. Hit the send-to-device icon. Selected the connected GPS that you would like to upload the map. The transferred map is ready for use. Done.

2014.20 uninstall wipes out Basecamp

That's scary.
I usually do the same thing GaryA does and I'm running on Windows 7. I uninstall the previous map a few weeks after I download the newest map. Hope I don't run into the same problem. Right now I still have both 2014.20 & 2014.30 on my PC and both show in control panel.
One thing that seems different is the install date of basecamp is 3 days older than the 2014.30 map not exactly the same.

This is the way I've always done map updates and this was the first time anything went wrong with BaseCamp. I might have written it off if it only happened on 1 PC, but TWO... and with different OS's!?!

But, it's easy enough to download BaseCamp and install it. It's just an extra step.

Same for me.

Deleting 2014.20 deleted Basecamp, even tho I had saved resources on it (waypoints, Birdseye images, etc) as well as the 2014.30 map. Oh well, Basecamp is typical Garmin junkware, so no big loss.

Wow. Let's hear it for Mapsource!

Yup same thing for me, just went through the motions

Uninstalled 2014.20 like several previous versions and poof basecamp is gone except for the language dictionary files.
Way to go Garmin! Watch out basecamp users backup your stuff before you get rid of the 2014.20 map.
GaryA thanks for the link to download the latest basecamp, saved me a few minutes trying to find it.
Just reinstalled basecamp, no problem with that. "My Collection" files are still intact, they must be stored in a different folder (backed them up prior just in case).

Thanks

Thanks for confirming that uninstalling the 2014.20 maps also clobbers the BaseCamp program requiring a re-installation. I was wondering if I did something wrong or if I had PC problems.

Way to go, Garmin!?! confused

Late Reply...Sorry

@Icedog: My response to your questions is three days late, but perhaps it can be useful information for you when the next update happens.

Quote:

You are talking about JCV file that is separated form the new gamin maps update. What do you do with it?

The JCV file is the file that stores the Junction View images for when you approach an exit or intersection along a route. You have a Garmin 2595 according to your profile so you shouldn't need the posted file. The posted file is for Garmin owners with full-screen Junction View, primarily the 7xx and 1xxx units.

Quote:

I am doing the download but before I had a message saying that there is no space for the update, if so put a sd card for more available space. Also said that you have to keep the sd card in all the time for maps to work.

Can I download to my computer and install after?

The option to download to the computer is available in Map Updater, but may not be available in Garmin Express. You would need MapInstall (included with BaseCamp) to install the map once it's downloaded.

You can also see in the screenshot that BaseCamp has the same installed date as the map update. That's because I had to install BaseCamp after it got clobbered when I uninstalled map update 2014.20.

I uninstalled the 2014.20 and got the same results.

Although, I think that it doesn't totally uninstall Basecamp. After re-installing Basecamp, it came right up to where I had previously been zoomed in to.

The icon was missing from "Programs", so it does remove some Basecamp files.

Deleted Files

From what I saw, uninstalling the previous map files (2014.20) deleted the 11 files in the main program folder on my Win7 laptop: C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\BaseCamp

It left the sub-folders & files alone. That's why I just reinstalled BaseCamp over the top of the previous install.

Screenshot arrow http://i41.tinypic.com/14b2kw7.jpg

So no, BaseCamp is not "uninstalled" like it would be if you intentionally ran the uninstall routine from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. That's why I used words like "clobbered."

This only applies if BaseCamp was downloaded and installed with the map update. If you're like me and downloaded BaseCamp separately, it doesn't get uninstalled with the map. Plus, the next time you update a map Garmin likely will throw BaseCamp back on to the computer, even if MapSource is installed.

And then it will get deleted

And then it will get deleted with the old map. Hope they keep this features. Self-cleanup.... but it still leaves some folders laying around, so they need to enhance & tweak this feature a little more. grin

YMMV

mgarledge wrote:

Your mileage may vary--and I know a lot of folks do routinely uninstall the old maps.

But for me, as long as I have lots of free hard drive space on the computer, I like to keep the old maps. With Mapsource (and I suppose, Basecamp), it's good every now and then when zooming in on an area to switch between current and older maps to identify changes to streets or built-in POIs.

I just did the update to

I just did the update to 2014.30 and using Mapupdater, I was able to unselect Mexico and it fit on the 255LMT no problem. I only have 191MB free at the moment. Going to have to get a 4GB micro SD card for this I would think for the 2015 updates.

Latest Map Update

I just downloaded and installed the 2014.30 map on my Dad's 755 and got the Opps screen syaing he didn't have enough room on his internal storage. Guess I have to get him a SD card now. It would allow him to load selected areas.

BaseCamp and MapSource

The point here is that Garmin is giving you a subtle hint that you might want to start getting used to BaseCamp, regardless of your preference for MapSource. Like I've said multiple times already in past threads, when you least expect it something is going to break MapSource, and when that happens you'll be forced to switch. I would prepare myself for that eventuality by keeping both MapSource and BaseCamp installed, and learning how to use BaseCamp, so that when MapSource finally dies you'll be able to continue your workflow virtually uninterrupted.

I'm only speculating here, but the very fact Garmin automatically installs BaseCamp with a map update, despite having MapSource installed, tells me that it probably won't be much longer before MapSource disappears from Garmin's servers.

And when you clean up old

And when you clean up old maps it deletes itself.

Sounds like something I don't need yet.

Maybe in the future, but for now I'll let it delete itself. Works for me.

But thanks for pep talk.

And by the way. Maybe you should start using Garmin Express instead of Mapupdater since that is what Garmin is pushing as the new and improved way to operate. Garmin Express has been working for me since it first appeared.

But your mileage may vary as does mine.

Happy motoring.

I think the OP wanted to know if ALL of 2014.3 can be transferred, not just individual or regional maps.

Really? Are you seriously comparing BaseCamp, a piece of software that is stable and runs well on the average computer with Garmin Express, a piece of software that is the exact opposite?

That's funny.

@lotsip

Yes you can. Backing the old map up to your hard drive is better however.

--
"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job." --Douglas Adams

Yes

Yes the cmplete 2014.3 can be transferred. Just select the whole map, i.e. all regions, of 2014.30. Simply zoom all the way out to show the whole map. Select the Map-Toll. Mouse click and drag to draw a rectangle that encompasses the complete map. And send-to-device.

This works the same way of course for any maps installed in MapSouce.

Used it.... Bug from before gone

The bug I encountered with prior Maps version (say your going from Indiapolis to Milwaukee...) At the 394 turnoff from I80 toward I94 used to have you go south, Instead of North... Incorrect...
Now it has you take 394 turnoff, but immediately go right (North) on I94... with the new maps....

No trouble encountered...

New Routing Bug in GTA Area for Hwy 427

When going from GTA West to downtown Toronto, from 401 West, the 2014.30 map will have you exit 401 at Renforth and get back on 427 instead of just taking the 427 exit from the 401.

When going from downtown Toronto to GTA West via 427 and 401, the 2014.30 map will have you exit 427 Express lanes to the collectors at Dundas and then back on to 427 Express.

Anyone else in the Toronto area notice this? The 2014.20 map did not have this "feature"...

Los Cabos, Baja California

This map has been extremely useful for accurate navigation in the Cabo San Lucas and San Juan del Cabo area of Baja California Mexico. Even the included POIs are accurate and useful.

Back

Used this map version for over a week in Cabo San Lucas and San Juan del Cabo. If we ever go back, I will be taking the GPS for sure.

2014.30

In the small town in Mexico not too far from Manzanillo, Colima where I spend the winter, I have noticed that for the first time the Garmin map includes icons for a lot of businesses etc., which was never there before.
But not necessarily accurate, it shows a PEMEX gas station where there is none.
The do NOT show it where the station actually is located!
