CN North America 2014.30 Available For Download

I'm in the process of downloading now.
I thought I'd start a new thread rather than continue the original that's at 7 pages. I'm sure they're will be lots more discussions with user experiences.

Member t923347 posted the release in the other thread and he stated Mapupdater wouldn't work for him and had to use Garmin Express. I do not have a problem with MapUpdater and it is what I'm using for the download.

Folder options?

HerbSch, if you are using a Windows computer, do you have the folder options set to "Show file name extensions"? Do you see any files named gmapprom in the \Garmin folder of your nuvi or any files named gmapsupp in the \Garmin folder of the SD card?

I didn't realize from your original post that you were using a SD card. So the map files may be on the SD rather than the internal storage of your 765T. Or, depending on the install options you selected, the map may be split with part of the map in internal storage and part on SD.

Let us know what files you see named gmapprom or gmapsupp in both internal storage and SD (in the \Garmin folder).

Confused

Help needed question

So if I retained the install files on the computer from updating my 1st Nuvi and Mapsource, is there a shortcut to use the installation files for my 2nd Nuvi - so as not to have to re-download the files again ?

I must be doing something

I must be doing something wrong. Started this update using GE. It was going to take hours. After reading about some of the download times here, I cancelled that, started up GMU 3.2.2. Installing to device and computer. I have been downloading for 30 minutes and it states that I have 1 1/2 hours left for downloading, 5 minutes for preparing maps, and 2 hours to install.
Compared to others, I might have a slow connection at 3 mbps. Fast enough for me. But I just did a speed test on my laptop while doing this download and I have a whopping .8 mbps. I guess that is my problem. Thanks for letting me vent.

Proceed with your second unit just like the first one.
Download will finish in 30 seconds. Then prepare maps and install map will rquire same amount of time as before

Transfer Speed: computer to GPS/card

... depends on the slowest USB speed. My old 60CSx is USB 1.0, and very slow. It would takes days to do the full load if the card were in the device. That's why I load the card using a card reader plugged into the computer.

Update

Done it was slow

Didn't work.

I tried the update using the GMU. Came back from dinner and it failed. Was going to try it again but my computer said that Garmin Map Updater was still running. Could not find it to reinstall. Then I tried Garmin Express. Same thing. Failed Will try again in a few days. Might have to contact Garmin.

Garmin Map Updater is not

Garmin Map Updater is not installed, merely ran. The link to the program I believe was posted upthread.

Routing algorithms are still not fixed though.

Garmin Express Improvement?

Seems like more of you are reporting success using GE this cycle. Several people even said GMU failed, but GE worked.

I've been waiting to update, but it occurs to me GE hasn't notified of update availability yet. I was under the impression GE runs in the background at all times, and would "pop up" when a map update is ready to install. Did I just assume this wrong?

If I manually start GE, it does show "update available"

I looked under "Task Manager", "Services", and see "Garmin Core Update Service" is running. Is GE waiting for bandwidth to be available, or something?

Roy

4 GB

HerbSch, glad you got it sorted out. A 2 GB card just doesn't cut it any more with the growing map and JCV file sizes. The 4 GB card should be big enough for a few more updates.

In time for Thanksgiving

An update in time for Thanksgiving. Although I don't need a GPS for Thanksgiving travels since I know where I am going.

Nuvi 660 problem

Tried to download new map with Garminupdater on two computers and it tried to download a map several generations old. Finally I closed everything and restarted. Went to Garmin Express and it found the 2014.3 for download. It got one file from the end and stopped. Until I saw an arrow on the bottom left I had no idea what to do. Clicking on that arrow restarted the download which went through quickly and then put the map on the device. I had similar problem on my 3790 download except at the start, the connection was stopped after every file for the first 9 files. After that it went thru and installed the map on that device. Garmin needs to find programmers that can fix their software. I downloaded Mavericks ( 5 G) with no problem and much faster than the 2 G maps from Garmin. One added thing, I had no space problem on the 660 but I only did the lower 48 states.

Garmin Express In An Infinite Loop

The maps are loaded on my Montana, but Garmin Express keeps indicating that updates are available. I run the updates, the same thing happens, and it indicates updates are available. I've run it several times, same result, still indicates updates are available.

Piece o' cake

I just used MapUpdater to install 2014.30 and everything went swimmingly. I have ATT's U-verse so it took a few hours to download and then another 15 minutes or so to copy the large JCV file from my computer to the Nuvi 1450. Tomorrow I'll see if it actually works.

"No misfortune is so bad that whining about it won't make it worse."

i wish they had smaller updates

I wish you could just download the updates not the whole thing. The 4gb gonna takr 3 hours

Out of memory

So, installed the entire update (it said it would fit) and am trying to use it out of state. Getting out of memory error and after about four intersection turns I get garbage info (just repeats the direction with 0 miles). So, I'll have to re-download and save to PC and edit for where I'll be, OR install only the lower 48 OR put it on an SD card. I've been loading the Europe maps to the SD and both won't fit so will have to do some thinking on this (buy another, larger SD or load partial maps.
I wish they would give more control over what we get and allow selection of included POIs. I doubt I'd take many (North America ATM locations etc.?).

Got it

Found some changes but not too many.

Garmin nuvi 2455LMT (wife uses nuvi 255w) (sold C330)

Map updater worked fine for me

Used Garmin Map Updater to update both pc and Nuvi 2495LMT with no problems. GPS works ok.

What I ment was not

What I ment was not reinstall GMU, but to find it on my computer to run the update. I did wait a day or so then rebooted my computer and when I went to GE it showed it was already downloaded. Took about 5 minutes to prep things and about 35 minutes to install. I now have the new maps showing up. For me it just takes time. Or maybe I have to get used to this method. It does me good to read about others and how they solved their problems. Thanks all.

Are we there yet?

problems with GE

Used GE to update my 3590. All the files did not update (3D maps and map sections as I received that feature is not available in American english). Had to use Mapupdater to get the latest and greatest.

Downloaded

Did both my 855 and 3790 last night.
One immediate difference I can see since 2014.30 is also on my laptop, is that the small town in Mexico where I spend the winter has now a number of hotels and restaurants shown. It also shows a non-existing PEMEX gas station.

To whom would I report this to???

Also any ideas where to get the large JCV file?

JCV file

You are talking about JCV file that is separated form the new gamin maps update. What do you do with it?

CN North America 2014.30

I am doing the download but before I had a message saying that there is no space for the update, if so put a sd card for more available space. Also said that you have to keep the sd card in all the time for maps to work.
Can I download to my computer and install after?

Thanks for

I believe downloading to your computer does only 2 things.
1.) You can see the map in MapSource or BaseCamp
2.) If you have a second Garmin with Lifetime maps it makes it faster to download for the 2nd unit.

There may be a way to transfer maps from MapSource, but I am not sure about that.

How

Where you find the clone, and mapupdater, every time I tried to install, the north america map, the updater say no space in your GPS, what you 'recommend. THANKS.

Who needs MyGarmin?

daman wrote:

I don't ever go into MyGarmin anymore. Don't have to. Once a new release comes out, I just kick off MapUpdater and let it do its thing. FWIW, I have a Nuvi 1450.

Large JCV file

Thanks to CraigW's link for the large JCV file, I downloaded it to my laptop and installed it on a SD card in my 855 and internally on my 3790.

Since I am currently and for the winter in Mexico and can not test it here anywhere I used the simulator in my 855 to test the large JCV file in my home area. It works like a charm with Photorealistic full size screen display.

Over a year since I updated my 780...so will give this one a go next week.

YES

I upgrade, I have to add a mini card, because, I don't have a capacity in my Garmin nuvi 1300T

New Devil's slide tunnel is added, :)

Here in SF Bay Area. The notoriously hazardous devil's slide of Cabrillo Highway (HWY 1)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_State_Route_1

was shut down and replaced with a bypass tunnel that opened in March.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Lantos_Tunnels

http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/dslide/

The tunnel showed up correctly in 2013.4, smile, good job Garmin.

Updated both 2495 and 3597 with Mapupdater, no issues other than the complaint that there is not enough room on the GPS. This is the first time I got the message.

In reality there is still ~1G free on both GPSs after the new map is installed. I believe the Gamin Upater/GE needs to see enough space for the map+jcv+other files, such as SID's before the old map is removed. I think Garmin's updating program wait until it has succeeded in copying the new files to the device before it erase the old files. A prudent approach in my opinion.

As an experiment, I cancelled the updating process and manually move the 2013.20 map from the GPS to my PC. Run the Updater again, No more error messages, smile, and the updating succeeded without a hitch.

Nuvi 660 Updated

I updated my Nuvi 660 (directly to an SD card) yesterday. The update went smoothly to the SD card, but it somehow clobbered BaseCamp. The program folder was still there, but there was no longer any files in the folder(s) including BaseCamp.exe shock

I downloaded & installed BaseCamp 4.2.4 and it is working just fine, with the 2014.30 maps. First time I ever had a problem like that installing a map update. confused
