CN North America 2014.30 Available For Download

I'm in the process of downloading now.
I thought I'd start a new thread rather than continue the original that's at 7 pages. I'm sure they're will be lots more discussions with user experiences.

Member t923347 posted the release in the other thread and he stated Mapupdater wouldn't work for him and had to use Garmin Express. I do not have a problem with MapUpdater and it is what I'm using for the download.

Always wise to have a backup of the previous map to avoid any issues a new map may have. grin

Thanks

Expected another couple of pages on the other post before it was released. I think Garmin waits till we hit a certain number of pages before it releases new maps.

Updating now via GarminMapUpdater

I'm updating my 1st nuvi (and computer) to the new map using GarminMapUpdater and all is downloading fine for now.

For GarminMapUpdater users, the current GMU remains version 3.2.2 which is the same version as the past 1-2 updates or so. So if you've saved GMU in the past six months or so, your saved version will work fine and there's no need to re-download GMU.

Finallly

I think I first posted on page 2 of the faux announcement thread. I'll download tonight.

Size Increase

I have full North America & Mexico on my 2460LMT.
2014.20 was 1,977,888kb
2014.30 is 2,072,864kb

Using Map Updater to download it, but needed to try a few times, as I wasn't getting a connection to the NSA, uh I mean, server.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Done using Map Updater 3.2.2

Done using Map Updater 3.2.2 with Windows 8.1

Installing on both unit 3790 and computer: 44 minutes

Total time: 68 minutes

faster download for me

I used Map Updater 3.2.2. Just 23 minutes after I started the download it moved in to the "installing maps" phase. At 68 minutes total it had finished--maybe a couple of minutes earlier.

That is definitely faster download than I've had before, probably because Comcast raised the speed limit on my connection, and at this early stage in the download panic Garmin's servers were able to supply more than my previous limit.

In case someone reading here wishes to use Map Updater and lacks a previously retained copy, it appears that this link

http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

currently can give you 3.2.2.

Will try tonight...

And I was betting on six pages; I was close but too conservative... We've had some new roads open up in the last six months, and I'll see if any of the prodding I've done has resulted in map changes.

download rate slowing

archae86 wrote:

My second 3790LMT install took 34 minutes to finish the download phase. Watching a network monitor showed a strong trend to slowing between the beginning and the end.

I'd guess the Garmin servers are loading down as the word of availability spreads. Or just possibly some of my own neighbors are clogging up my local cable segment.

Thanks. As expected, the new large JCV file works great with the new map on my nuvi 855.

Thanks for the heads up only took 54 minutes total

Very quick download and install this time.

Used the Mapupdater 3.2.2 that was already saved in my computer.

Total time to download and verify all the map and associated files only took 14 minutes and the install to both my 3790LMT and the computer took 40 minutes more for both. Total time from starting the software to completion was 54 minutes. grin

Everything went smooth and the new maps show up fine.

It's just Garmin doing it's thing. rolleyes

MapUpdater says that there is an "update available for PURCHASE" which of course is nuts as I have lifetime maps. What I missed was the very small print on the bottom of the screen that allows you to click and enter a Product Key. Once the product key, obtained from myMaps in your myGarmin.com account, is entered MapUpdater works fine. Why it thinks I don't have lifetime maps, I have no idea. mad

Well, Garmin Express ...

...was the only thing that would work.

I wish I understood Garmin Express.

I'm kinda glad iPhone navigation has improved, I'll never be buying another stand-alone GPS device. Maintaining an iPhone is so easy, that makes what we go through maintaining our stand-alones seem archaic.

I prefer this program to the others and used it this afternoon. I cannot figure out where it's been installed. I can't find it on my machine (WIN7). Is it single-use or something? It doesn't appear in the Start menus.

Thx.

When you click on the link, tell it to download and save it on your computer. Once it's downloaded, go to where you downloaded it and run it.

For me, I just moved the file to where My links to WebUpdater and POILoader are.

Garmin Nuvi 2450

nuvi 755T and 855

I installed 2014.30 directly to SD card for both my 755T and 855 and also to the computer for BaseCamp. I used Map Updater and the cloning method (details here: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39231). This was the quickest and smoothest install yet, taking just over 60 minutes for the entire process. I updated the 755T first, installing to both the device and computer. That took 48 minutes. I selected the Map Updater option to "Keep installation files". The "device only" download and update for the 855 took just 14 minutes. The final step was to copy the large JCV file from the 755T SD card to the 855 micro SD.

I will run from SD card for a few days to make sure there are no problems with the new map. Then I will remove the old maps and move 2014.3 to internal storage (if there is enough space).

Express upgrade

Downloading now. Tried MapUdater, but it re-directed to a new GarminExpress downloader.

After it installed it found the SD Card as a Garmin 660, but said there was no update....

So I clicked Check for Update.... And it then found the update... ~10 min to go....

Anybody know where I can get Life Time Map Updater?

Apparently when the new GE was loaded, the Life Time Map Updater was deleted.

All attempts to get Life Time Up Dater point to GE, ugh.

I'm on a Mac.

Thanks

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

Garmin MapUpdater

Garmin MapUpdater program doesn't really install on your computer so GE didn't delete it. It's an executable (exe) file that you need to run every time you want to use it.

You can download the program again from here for PC:

http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

and here for Mac

http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.dmg

If you have used MapUpdater before, do a search of your computer and you may find the file there.
If you can't find it just download it again, keep the file in a safe place and run it whenever you need it.

If your really looking for the Lifetime Map Updater progarm it has long since been discontinued and I don't think is even supported by Garmin anymore.
