Transferring .vpm fiiles from 255w to 2595LM

Is it possible to transfer a voice file (.vpm) from the 255w to the 2595LM? I have a custom .vpm file that I would like to use on my new unit. Thanks

Voice engines

Garmin uses at least two voice engines and voice files intended for one engine are incompatible with the other. It wouldn't surprise me if the 255 uses the lesser engine and the 2595 the higher quality one.

If you try by copying your custom voice to the 2595, please let us know if you succeed or fail. My fear is that failure is more likely than success between voice files for these two nuvi series.

Voice Engine file swap - 255w to 2595LM

Craig, thanks for your quick reply. I have good news. I did a copy/paste from the 255 to the 2595 and it worked. Can't believe it was that easy. I was trying too hard to complicate the transfer....way too hard. I am a happy camper...;-}.

Great news

Welcome to the site.

There is a Getting Started button in the upper right of this page right under POI Files. It is worthwhile visiting this page.

To make navigation easy, most browsers provide the following option. When you want to follow a link - but still keep your current page open - you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you left-click on a link. That action will open a new "Tab" in your browser up on the "Tab" bar. When you then left-click on that new "Tab", you will follow the link - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

So, using the "Getting Started" link, you might try the "Ctrl" - left-click sequence and then return here. You can return by either "X-ing" out of the "Getting Started" page (using the "X" on the "Tab" itself) or just left-clicking on the "Tab" for the page you are on right now.

Since you are new here, I encourage you to go through a couple of the Beginner Education FAQs.

The first link makes sure the settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.

The next link helps you make a backup of your GPS by attaching it to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup)

By doing these tutorials, you could help me help others by pointing out where the tutorials need to be improved because newer models might need different or additional wording. I wrote them based on my 765T. That was a while back.

Since you were successful in the voice transfer, I would be interested in what, if any, change was made to your "GarminDevice.xml" file. I also did a voice transfer to my daughter's new 2595 from my 765T. I wrote this up in

Whether or not I needed to make the change to GarminDevice.xml was never pinned down. I wonder if you look at the data for the voice file you transferred, what you will find.

Again, welcome
