Loading POI's on NUVI3795LMTHD

I'm considering upgrading from a NUVI750 to the 3795 and wondering if loading POI's I created from the POI Factory is the same as for my 750?

Loading the custom pois

Loading the custom pois would be the same. For voice alerts you would need sox.exe and wav files. No mp3 for the newer model.

Should

be the same using POI Loader.

Use Garmin Express to transfer Favorites

In the past you could transfer your Favorites or Saved locations by copying the current.gpx file from one nüvi to the other. This technique no longer works in the 3597. If you try the current.gpx will revert to the original file. I guess this is to prevent folks from deleting vital files.

To transfer my favorites from my 3792 to my new 3597 I had to use Garmin Express. Be sure to backup the old device first by selecting the old device then the Backup tab, then click the Backup button. Then on Garmin Express, select the new GPS from the device list, then the Transfer tab. Transfer the old files to the new device by selecting the old device as the From device, then click the Transfer button (be sure to check the date of the Backup to be sure it is the one you just did on the old device).

Eject the new device and restart. All your favorites will be listed under the Saved icon when selecting "Where To?".

@brentrn

Be aware that Garmin express does not do a full back up.
Also, if I recall correctly you need to rename current.gpx to something else such as Current1,gpx or temp, gpx.

Don't know what you did orginally that your favorites didn't transfer to the 3597 from another device as it worked fine for me. It sounds like you simply copied the current.gpx file from one device to the other and that would never work on any Nuvi.

You have to copy the current.gpx file to your computer and rename it, and then put the renamed file in the GPX folder on the 3597. This is the same procedure that has always been required.

Your right that Garmin Express will do the transfer as well, but you can still transfer the Favorites/Saved Places the old way if you don't want to mess with GE.

Alerts?

RLC alerts 'ding' and then appear as an alert across the top bar of the 3597, both when navigating a route, or not.

However, I've found that other POI alerts (like rest stops) 'ding' but only appear as a white box / flag on the actual map screen (a white version of the 3597 POI overlay, without a graphic). I have to touch the flag, which then pulls up a secondary screen that shows the alert detail.

Does anyone else see this behaviour?
