Maps on OS X

This is going to be fun -- nice APIs for building map access into applications as well!

Apple Maps on OS X

http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/#maps

The official OS X Mavericks preview page was updated a while back with information and screenshots. It will be interesting to see what features end up in the final product.

Interesting

This could make me shift everyday nav to the iPhone, and save the Garmins to outdoor and special use.

This is something to look forward to.

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

Great for RVers

I frequently plan a trip on google, making the assumption that the Garmin or the RVND 7720 will make the same choices and find myself making difficult choices on the fly. NOT a great idea in a 40 foot vehicle. Being able to plan and install while I have access to WiFi would be of great benefit.

Wonder if it will apply to iPad as well. Big screen is also of great benefit for RVers.

This Should Scare Garmin

The issues with Garmin BaseCamp, and other secondary quirks with Garmin devices and the interface problems, and how long these problems persist, will now be made glaring when Apple comes up with a Mac based BaseCamp alternative to manage navigation capability on the iPhone. This is where Apple excels. Will the Apple first release be perfect? Probably not. Will it be all things to all people all the time? Absolutely not. But it will probably school Garmin. Maybe this can help Garmin address those lists of issues that are festering.
