I have to tun off my IPS

I have to tun off my IPS filtering in the Router/Gateway....

Something that Garmin is doing has something to do with one of the following...

I never took the time to get it further that this. I just unblocked all, and it works.. Blocked, the download slows to a crawl and never completes....

It's one of these:

I actually contacted Garmin about it, asking which one or ?? were they using, and you'd think I asked for their off-shore bank account information!!!
I was told in so many words, that I had no business asking them about this, and they would not provide an answer!!

So THERE!

CSRs

There is a difference between contacting Garmin and contacting a CSR what works for Garmin. Call again and maybe you'll get an experienced CSR.

Zumo 550 & Zumo 665 My alarm clock is sunshine on chrome.

@ rjrsw

Why you ask, I’ll explain.

Since owning my GPS, I’ve learned many things over the years here at the POI Factory as well as other GPS sites. When I read and learn something of interest I copy and paste it within a word document for future reference. For example when DorkusNimrod explained the firmware rollback procedure or t923347 who clarified the different class ratings on an sd card, I found it to be useful and thus kept it.

Over the years I have read various problems that other users have encountered when downloading the map update. The tips I wrote are suggestions from others in increasing your chance of success. Have I ever encountered a problem with my anti-virus program when doing a download, the answer is no. Others have had that problem and by turning off their anti-virus they solved the problem. Since we all don’t run the same anti-virus programs I thought this was a wise tip and would apply it.

The same logic/reasoning was used for all the other tips/suggestions other users made. I’m just trying to help fellow members but it’s really up to each person to decide whether to apply them or not.

Cheers smile

Me too

Need the big JCV!

.

That's one bonus to owning my 775. I get the large JCV when it gets updated. I just have to copy it to my 3790.

Don't you get the large file with the 3790 map update anyway? Granted the one from the 775 is full screen views and the one for the 3790 is split screen, but that's the only difference.

Yes, I do get the large one. But, I prefer the full screen over the split screen.

Waiting to see how much more useless info this post gets before it is released. We will all probably not even realize it when it does go on line.

Whenever

the map update is available, I expect a rocky ride for many users this time. With Garmin making the new Garmin Express system the preferred (maybe only?) update method there could be significant problems. Maybe that is one reason for the delay. I have yet to see Garmin introduce new software that "just works". I hope they surprise me this time.

Don't panic

There will be olde methods available as well. If you don't like Express than use them. I'm planning to do so. When I tried to update with Express it was looking pretty well. It didn't finished but I have this problem regardless of update method used when I try to load map to SD card inserted in GPS. Transfer through Map Install works fine.

Exactly

Exactly the reason I kept a copy of GarminMapUpdater.exe from the last update. It still works fine and although I plan to give Garmin Express a try, if I run into any problems it's back to the system I know will work the first time, and give all the install options I need.

That Garmin Express is a mess. Pretty much a beta product that was released too soon. I installed it right after it came out and they have had multiple updates since then in just the past month or two. It's frozen up on my machine, placed a black window on the screen which can't be closed and stupid stuff like that. It also doesn't seem to allow you to reinstall the Nuvi software like the web updater does. Just weird they have so many different options each of which are problematic in their own ways. Similar to their Nuvi line - dozens of models. They need to narrow them down and improve quality not quantity. Anyway, sorry to digress.

Garmin Express

Garmin tried something similar in the past with a program called Garmin Lifetime Updater which was a total disaster, hopefully they've learned.

T923347 suggestion of using a previous GarminMapUpdater.exe is an excellent idea. I found an old version on my computer and it updated itself when I ran it smile

Given Garmins track record, the method of updating my maps is obvious.

Late

Update is long overdue. A glitch?

GE works with Win7.

I disagree about Garmin Express v2.1.6. I tested a map install on my older Zumo 550 and it worked perfectly. It updated the .gma lock file and the .xml product ID file on the device. I had used a previous version of GE to update the firmware on my Zumo 665. Others on the zumoforums.com have tested it for installing the 2013.30 maps to their computer and it works. It will write to Device and Computer if you update that dropdown on the lower left of the map display page. It will not, however, write to an SD card which means running mapinstaller to write the complete maps to the SD card for smaller internal memory units (<1.8GB US; <2.? GB for Euro).

I'm using Win7, so maybe you're having a problem due to an older o/s.

--

It could be that the map update is being delayed due to issues with Garmin Express.

I agree, I'm finding GE works very well with my Nuvi's under Windows 8 x64. It's done everything I've asked it to do but I will admit I'm waiting for a map update to complete my testing. wink

3 weeks is not a short time. We probably won't see it for another 3 weeks.

@ cameotabby

Garmin as you know must upload their maps to their servers prior to releasing them. The initial post was to give the community a heads up meaning that phase one has been done.

I don't work for Garmin so I really don't know when they'll actually release the maps. I used the word shouldn't be long & not won't be long. There's a difference between the two.

I'd also tell you something else but will leave it at that wink
