Basecamp Route Problems Or is it the Nuvi 2555

I create a custom route in basecamp upload to my Nuvi2555. Go to "trip Planner" find route. I am past the starting point of the route and I select the route I made and click on "GO" at this point I get a list of starting points. If I choose the final destination it wants to take a different route to reach that point. I have to select the next waypoint in the route to get it to continue on the original route and it only shows that waypoint to its end. To continue on the route each time it completes the current waypoint it then displays the next way point until it's end. In my old Nuvi 1160 I would always get "do you want to navigate to the starting point" I would answer "No" and it would calculate from my current location on to my destination. Is this a Basecamp issue or a Nuvi 2555 issue and how do I correct it.

simulated or real?

Are you describing the behavior on the road or in simulation?

The reason I ask is that on my new 3790LMT, the behavior in simulation is much as you describe, but the behavior on the road is good (without a new question at each waypoint) so long as one does not select the very first waypoint on the route as one's initial goal.

If, however, one selects the very first waypoint as one's goal, then the 3790LMT on current software just navigates to that point and stops.

I don't think you have a Basecamp issue.

This is on the road. Another

This is on the road. Another problem I notice is if I turn off of the original route to visit a gas station or store and then select the route again it wants to reroute my custom destination to the shortest route possible. It does this even if I add the store or station to my original route as a way-point.

Trip Planner Stinks!!!

I have a 2450, basically the same unit. That is the way Trip Planner works, it is really a piece of crap! Have no idea what was garmin thinking when they changed to Trip Planner. I've about had it with this unit, I've gone back to using my older 1450 unit anytime I want to use a route created in Mapsource. What a mistake I made by buying this unit.

Same issue with a 3590

I just bought a 3590 and loaded a route created in Mapsource. When I attempted to get it to follow this predetermined route, all that I got was a list of vias or waypoints. If set to the final destination it routed me the way Garmin wants to go, not how I want to get there. Furthermore, if I decide to go my way the dammed thing kept trying to get me back to the Garmin way.
If I instructed it to use the first via, it got me to the end of my driveway then quit routing.
The other thing I noticed is that when attempting to view the route it came up with a blank screen (no map).
When I returned home I deleted the route and reloaded it. This time it would preview the route on a map. I havn't tested if it would follow the route yet.
I'm not sure what was different between the two downloads was, but if this is the best Garmin can do with their premier automotive product I am really disappointed.
I bought the 3590 because my 1490 is such an unreliable piece of crap.

What a big mistake

I am beginning too feel the same way. My old 1160 took a dump so it is no longer usable or I would ditch the 2555. I will do some experimenting this week using "unflag" to see if I can get it to follow a simple custom route. I wonder if the newest models of the Nuvi all use "Trip Planner"

Trip Planner

Looks like all new Nuvis use Trip Planner even the most expensive ones with all the bells and whistles.

Unfortunately the only way I see to faind out if the Nuvi has Trip Planner is to look in the units owners manual.

On the Garmin site for a particular model, the Overview, Features, and Specs tabs don't provide that information.

I use

Map Quest to plan my trips. I make the trip on Map Quest and down load as waypoint to my Favorite and than go to Trip Planner and use the Favorite to make my trip.

Why are you interested in the name by which the multi-waypoint planning function is called on a particular model?

Not all the ones with that name share all the same behaviors. I own a brand new refurb 3790LMT, and while lots of posts from the beginning of the model complained about inability to navigate as desired on multi-waypoint routes or to navigate downloaded routes, there was a software update a few revs ago which fixed the major complaints.

It is still labelled "Trip Planner" but that was not the problem. As to the details of the interface--I actually rather like it compared to the comparable functions on my Garmin 855 and on my Garmin GPS V (I skipped all the generations in between).

I would assume the name "Trip Planner" would have the same behavior for all models.
You know what they say about assuming.

Interesting to note that sn update corrected the issue on some models but not available for others.

I'm not a fan of base camp. No where near the development of mapsource. so p'd off they cancelled it.
