I'm misunderstood at times.

@bozlawless: I'm misunderstood at times. smile

What I meant by that error popping up is as follows: if you had deleted the maps off the internal memory and left the internal memory empty the nüvi would think that it didn't have a detail map installed even though you have detail maps on the MicroSD. Since you put a map on the internal memory you won't get that error.

SD card

I tried to do the update but got the "not enough room " message so I removed all the voices except one and all the keyboards except one. Then it allowed the update. I guess thats it, after this update I will have to go the SD card route.

I've been using the SD card for my c340 for awhile now, 2GB is the max it will accept. I can still install the full NA maps, but soon I will have to chop a few areas off. I can do without Mexico and French Guyana, so I should be good for another 2 years or so.

Skipped .30

I will give this one a go. I skipped the last update and lifetime updater is still reminding me that .20 is available even though it successfully updated my 780....

So fingers crossed.

Download and update

The download and the update were quick. On the other hand, I really have not noticed any difference yet after installing the update.

No Issues

Downloaded and installed with no issues here. Going to hit the new freeway in town Thursday morning and will see if it was included in this update.

Firmware

Firmware will always be updated first if the unit is not up to date. I'd suspect the software download was Basecamp being automatically installed on your computer.

Problem with updating?

Has anyone else had issues updating? The updater is notifying me of the update for my 760. However, when I plug the GPS into the USB cable, the Updater software locks up and becomes non-responsive. This will last until I reboot the machine. I can't even kill the process with task manager. It takes a reboot to get it stopped.

I downloaded the latest version of updater, not sure what is going on.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ignore Lifetime Updater

Have you tried ignoring the Lifetime Updater? Go to the myGarmin website with your 760 attached to the computer, log in, then go to myDashboard, then choose the map update when it says you have one available. Now choose Option 2 as opposed to the recommended Lifetime Updater. If you haven't updated to the latest Garmin Communicator browswer plug-in, that'll be done early in the process.

I never installed the lifetime updater. Given your issues, you might even want to consider uninstalling it from your computer.

2012.40 confusion

With LifeTime Updater got 2012.40 for my 755T. Install failed, I thought,"not enough room".

I tried again today and was told the maps were up to date with 2012.40, both at Garmin and LifeTime Updater.

When I go to Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info the checked listings are:
CN North America NT 2012.10 and
CN North America NT 2012.30

Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Have a nice day. H.

Garmin map update application.

dhamish, when you log on to my.Garmin.com, click on "Manage Maps". You should see your device listed with map 2012.40. Click Download, then select Option 2 "Garmin map update application". You should then be able to retry the download and install.

As far as showing 2 installed CN NA maps, that indicates a problem. Do you have one map installed on a SD card? If so, try removing the card before you try the map update. If not, look at the files on your nuvi in the \Garmin folder. If you have both a gmapprom.img and gmapsupp.img, you have somehow installed two different maps. In this case I would first back up everything, then delete the gmapsupp.img file before you try the map update.

re: confusion

Thank you alandb for the quick reply.

I will try the above later and let you know what happens.

Have a great day. H.

755T files

When you check the files on your 755T, you will see a couple of other .img files, namely gmapbmap.img and gmaptz.img. These are the base map and timezone files. Do not delete these files, delete only the gmapsupp.img if it is present.

Again, please do a complete backup of your nuvi before you delete anything.

Way to go Garmin

Kudos to Garmin for finally allowing map updates to be loaded to my SD card in my 1490lmt. I'm also able to load the D3060050A.JCV large file onto my 8GB SD card and now I have a lot of room left in the internal memory to load my custom POI files. No more annoying messages at startup when I had these files on the SD. Thanks for doing the right thing Garmin. My next upgrade will be a Garmin!

Map Update

I really appreciate all the great input.

@synctronic

How are your boot-up times now, vs when map was internal?

Same boot-up time

spokybob wrote:

The boot-up time is about the same. 20 seconds to get to the "Where to?" screen. Now that I don't have to decline saving my custom POI's from the SD to the internal, I'm saving an extra step so I'm faster.

My lifetime updater isn't

My lifetime updater isn't telling me the new maps are available yet.

Then

Then don't use it. Plug your Nuvi into your PC, go to your myGarmin.com account and click on myMaps. Even if the listing for your unit still says 2012.30, click on the DOWNLOAD button and 2012.40 will be what is offered.

When you get the choice between Option 1 or Option 2, pick Option 2 as there are far less problems using the old download method instead of the LMU program (option 1).

get rid of it

Not worth having, it uses your resources by running in the background all the time, just keep checking in to POI Factory, you'll know when they are available.

Definitely use old method

Definitely use old method option 2, Garmin does not have this LMU program working yet correctly, so much easier to d/l the old method way

Got Mine

Updated without a hitch if I used option #2. I don't care, as long as I got the new map.

And the old Nuvi 660 rides again !

Option # 2

Option # 2 is the same method I used to download & install the map update on my 660. Also to 2 PCs.

Lifertime Updater

This might have already been discussed but: For me, option 1, lifetime updater, never went to a successful install. So after a few tries, I successfully installed using option 2. My problem is that I keep getting an lifetime update alert on my PC telling me that new maps are available. How do I get rid of the message.

Uninstall

One solution is to uninstall the lifetime updater software and continue to use Option 2 in the future.

un-install

Yep, un-installing was the only solution that worked for me.

750

CraigW,

It will only fit on a 750 if you delete language files you don't need.

These map updates keep getting larger.
