GPS 2595LMT

I bought a Garmin 2595LMT today. I am downloading the map right now. Will be using it on a trip to Argyle,Tx tomorrow. So far, the only thing that I see that I am not fond of is that the power cable has to be attached to the gps instead of the bracket, like I am use to with the 3790LMT and the855.

Can I move the current.gpx file from the 3790LMT to the 2595LMT. I don't feel like loading the file by hand.

Yes, but

Yes, but you will need to rename the file for your Favorites to appear in the new unit. Most folks suggest taking the file from your first unit to your computer, rename it temp.gpx, then copy it to the new GPS.

Favorites

As CraigW indicated you must rename the file to temp.gpx. If you try to copy it as current.gpx from your old unit it won't recognize it, The current.gpx resides in memory, by renaming it to temp.gpx, when you reboot it adds the contents of the temp.gpx to the current.gpx.

I too am not fond of dc power chords that plug into the nuvis, I prefer a powered cradle. Very few units are now available with powered cradles, none of the low end models that I'm aware of have them.

CraigW is correct

We would also suggest that you take a backup RIGHT NOW of the new unit. See
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30394
if you are now sure how to do so.

If you plan to continue using the older unit, take a backup of that one too.

We usually suggest the name "temp.gpx" for the copy of "current.gpx" but it can be ANYTHING.gpx because every Garmin unit treats any file named "current.gpx" as an output only file. In essence, if you just copied "curent.gpx" to the the new unit, when that unit powered up, it would immediately overwite it with favorites (if any) in the new unit.

A slight tangent...

@rthibodaux: can you comment on the responsiveness and general usability of the 2595LMT versus the 3790LMT? Did you upgrade mainly because of the larger display or were there any other reasons?

LARGER SCREEN

I needed a larger screen. The 4 inch screen was getting hard to see at my age. I liked the 3790. The only thing that I don't like about the 2595LMT is that the power cord plugs in the unit instead of the bracket and the speaker faces the rear. The 2595LMT has added features that the 3790LMT doesn't have. I like that you can put some categories on the mean menu. As soon as I print out the manual I might find other things that is does. I have 3D on the 3790, but never used it. I don't go into large cites looking for bldgs and the 3D terrian isn't that great. Once on the interstate highways the screen is the same, just follow the the pink line. Local restaurant and fast food icons show up on the screen as your approach them to make you aware that places to eat is approaching.

the GPX from the 3790 to the 2595 file with no problem.
