2012.1 Map update

Does anyone know when this update is coming? 2011.4 has been out for 24 hours now and is old news. This is the internet/information age where things happen more rapidly than ever. If Egypt and Tunisia can overthrow enitre governments in a few weeks, shouldn't we expect to get map updates at least that fast? wink

2011.20 2011.30 and now the 2011.40 I do not have the 2011.40 I have the 2011.30..I know a few friend who have update the maps and they all ask the same questions? WHY DOES THE MAP LOOK THE SAME ? It make me wonder what does install on your gps and if any of those version make any big differents.

It made a difference for me. Garmin introduced a bug in the 2011.40 map that now shows a dead-end street right by my home as being a through street. My 765T now tries to route me down that street. I have reported it and they have acknowledged it (not hard to do. A satellite photo shows it being a dead-end) but it may be a while before they fix it.

It depends on where you drive that determines if the update is worth it or not. For me, I drive about 1K a week to places I haven't been to before so it is very helpful if the maps are as updated as possible. I often find myself in newly constructed areas. If you have lifetime maps, then there is no reason to NOT upgrade.

Some road changes are very minor and would not make a difference, but in other areas it could be a pain to find your way around.

If you haven't noticed any differences between your maps and the real world, then stick with the map you have.

Upgrade

I upgrade every chance i get. Bin living at this address for 25 years and still Garmin can't find me. Google finds me, MapQuest finds me. Garmin thinks I live on the intersection up the street. One of these years, maybe. Maybe a TomTom can find me? Not a bad thing....keeps the riff raff away...lol

I've noticed my Garmin makes more mistakes up in Canada than here in the states, fortunately a number of them have been corrected already. The worst section I can recall was TransCanada 2 in New Brunswick, the route was way off! Last two times was much better. One of these days us riff raff will be knockin on your door!

Always hope..

each time that I update hope that the major shopping center that is 1/2 mile from the house will show up. Everything around it is there.....maps just show a dead end road going into a center that has been there for over 10 years! Just a little game I play with each update...

Actually I do like to keep the latest update loaded for when we are travelling with our RV....it has made a difference on a few occasions!

2012.1 Map update

2012.1??? I just got my nuvi 1490LMT last week and updated to 2011.40. I only get 4 free updates a year.

Have you tried reporting this to NAVTEQ? http://www.navteq.com/

You could check to see if it is accurate on their maps. If not, submit a request, and then play another game to see how long it takes for the update to appear grin

You'll be fine, only 3 more updates this year. 2012.1 comes out around late May, with .2 and .3 later this year. .4 will be out next year.

Would you happen to know if HWY 389 will ever be paved? I tried to travel up it to Labrador, but I didn't realize how bad the dirt section was going to be. Didn't want to finish that highway in my car, will attempt it again later in something else.

Do you know when your free update expires? My best guess is that 2012.10 be available by mid-May. Note that the only honest replies you'll get will be mere guesses--the map comes out when the map comes out. One near-guarantee, though--you'll almost certainly read of it first here at POI Factory.

2012.1 Map update

Mid May sounds good - as it expires sometime in June.

I'll keep waiting for the "word" that 2012 is released.

Thanks

The map policy is written a little different now.You may want to look at it.Scroll to bottom. https://my.garmin.com/maps/nuMaps.htm .If you have old maps now on your unit it looks to me as if you can get more then one update if within the 60 days of first receiving a signal.

Very interesting but I'd be afraid to be the first person to test it to see if I could get one update shortly after buying my nuvi, then with fingers crossed, trying for the next one if it occurs in the window period.

Someone with a new nuvi will have to check it out and report back, preferably someone planning to buy lifetime maps anyway.

actually got two updates on our 295W's within the first 60 days

It is nice to see another update coming out soon, however I don't think I'll bother with updating for some time. I have only seen one road that is incorrect, and it isn't too big of a deal to me.

Of course, there will be that one time in the next few weeks that I wish I did update...

I'm going to guess 2012.3. Since you said it is a major route, I would think that it would be quicker than one that isn't. I would guess Navteq will start looking at it in about a month or two which would be too late for 2012.2. Who knows, but it is fun to guess!
