2012.1 Map update

Does anyone know when this update is coming? 2011.4 has been out for 24 hours now and is old news. This is the internet/information age where things happen more rapidly than ever. If Egypt and Tunisia can overthrow enitre governments in a few weeks, shouldn't we expect to get map updates at least that fast? wink

Junction View on your 750

Yes in the last update 2011.40 the Junction view file more than doubled in size from the prior release.

I don't need Junction View for my 750. Can it be deleted to save space?

Junction view does not work on a 750, delete it.

How did it get there in the first place? Just a thought! You are not confusing it with something else are you?

In any map update I've ever experienced, the installer will not add stuff your GPS does not support. In the case of the 750 that would include 3d-buildings, Junction View, and Time Zone correction.

The jcv file (and directory) only are present and installed on the models that need them. The nuvi 750 doesn't have the file (currently about 100kb in size in my nuvi 855).

I think the 2013 map updates will be a lot different.......

2012.10

Looking at release dates of previous map updates, 2012.10 should have been released in April. Hopefully it will be this month. Looking forward to see all the new highways and intersections in my city.

I found out by accident. I went to MapUpdater and it said a new map was available and I downloaded it. I did not get an email from Garmin. What I would like to know is how to save this new map on my computer. Where do I find the file on the GPS? Thanks.

I'm Hoping

that whoever fat-fingered the Interstate designation from the last update--changing the I to a 1 (at least in THIS area)--has been appropriately reprimanded and the error corrected. Can't help but wonder if it's the same person who entered a recently renamed street as Glordano instead of Giordano, starting at an incorrect point because they apparently didn't quite comprehend that only PART of the previous street was renamed.

I've got a feeling I'll be entering an error report or two after this next update.

I assume this is your "MapUpdater," right?

http://www8.garmin.com/updatemaps/

When a new map is available, look to the lower left hand corner of an early window in the update process called "Install Options." Click it, then select "Install to GPS and computer." The default update is for the GPS only with no update of Mapsource or installation of the new map to a computer.

Assuming you've already installed the map to your GPS but you want to install it on your computer, do the same process described above, but once in "Install Options," choose "Install to computer only."

Some extra info

I believe that there's some beta testing regarding the 2012.10 installation process for users with lifetime maps that starts today at the earliest. If true, one would expect that the map won't be released to the masses until after the beta testing is well underway and evaluated. This may make a public release of the new map unlikely this week.

2011.04 is the latest.

The following updates are available for your nüvi® 765T:
There are currently no map updates available for your device. Our records indicate that you own the most recent maps for this device.

No option for beta version that I could see.

Just got off the phone with a Garmin rep

...and he said that the 2012.10 Europe maps were released last week and in the past, the North America and Europe maps are usually released within one week of each other. He said that the through his experience at Garmin, he feels the update would be released tomorrow or Thursday, but that Garmin does not tell their employees the exact date of when the next map update is going to be released until the night before. Now knowing Garmin, it could honestly be July before we get another update and I wouldn't be surprised, but I thought this information would help a little.

Entitled To Map Update?

I bought a new discontinued Nuvi 765T on March 9,2011 and registered with Garmin. It had 2010.10 CN NA map installed.

Informed I was eligible for one free map update, CN NA 2011.40 was the map at the time. It showed I had until May 12 (60 days) to get the update. That date has now changed on their site to June 12. Appears a new policy is in effect from 60 to 90 days.

I have read a post on this site that says not to play the waiting game, in my case waiting for 2012.10 to be released before June 12. It stated you must accept the map offered at the time and should a new one come out that offer expires. I'd then be SOL.

Can anyone verify if that statement is correct or has Garmin's policy changed regarding that.

I don't want to lose the opportunity to upgrade my map, yet I'd like to have the 2012.10 if possible.

2012.10 came out yesterday so do your update for the current map if it's available (via myGarmin) and let us know if a free update is being offered to you past your originally stated May 12 end date--the next update will be in mid-late summer and you'll be well past your free update offer.

You may get a lot of guesses here, but only when you visit the myGarmin site and see if it states that you have a free update available will you know what you are due.

Map Updates

It would be nice if the software was smart enough to be able to only load the parts of the map that had changed.

CN NA 2012.10 Released

@CraigW

I took your advice at logged on my account, it shows I am entitled to download the map and indicates it would be the 2012 map whose offer expires on June 12. So it does appear that they extended their free map policy to 90 days instead of the 60 days indicated when I first registered.

I addition, looks like the policy changed as far as what map is can be downloaded. In my case it seems to be the latest map (2012.10) and not the one that was availble at time of unit registration (2011.40).

COPIED & PASTED FROM GARMIN SITE
nüMaps Onetime™ City Navigator® North America NT 2012
expires Jun 12, 2011

I will go ahead and download the map and post the results. I'm sure their servers will be busy so I'm anticipating a long process.

UPDATE:
I was able to download the 2012.10 map. I selected to download both to my computer and the Nuvi 765T.
It updated the map as well as the 2012.10 3D map and the junction view map that the 765T is compatible with. I did get a bit nervous though while updating.
One of the screens showed expiration date to download as May 12 (original 60 day date) but it honored the new Jume 12 date.

Hope this helps others regarding one time free map updates.

Free update

You could get more then one free update based on the new policy. It all depends on the timing.

Guarantee applies to 1 covered Garmin product. Not transferable to any other person or product. You will qualify for the free map update(s) only if you register your product online at http://my.garmin.com either (i) prior to first using your device, or (ii) within 90 days of first acquiring satellites while driving with your device (the "First Satellite Fix"). If you qualify under one of these two conditions, then you will be entitled to receive 1 or more free map update during the 90-day period following the date you registered the product or the First Satellite Fix date, which ever is earlier, if and when map updates are available for purchase on Garmin’s website during such period. You will not qualify for free map updates if you register your product with Garmin by telephone or more than 90 days after the First Satellite Fix.
