$69.99 today - 20 July 2011

I just checked Amazon's pricing from "FireMall LLC." This is a $69.99 price with free S&H and "Fulfilled by Amazon*" --it will likely be a long time before it gets better than this--and this deal could be gone by tomorrow for all we know.

Garmin Lifetime Maps $63.92 Amazon

It's an OK price but doesn't

It's an OK price but doesn't require jumping on right away. I bought mine last year close to Christmas for ~$70, all prices on everything are higher now.

Same Price.

Looks like it's been staying around that price for a little while now. They are going to have to start bringing down the price on this as GPSes get more cheaper and come with lifetime maps. I love having lifetime maps but with my battery life and cpu being limited, I'm not sure my $63 was well spent.

Nice!

I'm not sure what type of GPS you have, but there are plenty of instructional videos on how to replace. A number of us here have done it, and it works like new!

When you think about all the expense Navteq has to getting updated maps and Garmin sends out a form compatible to our GPS devices 4 times a year, and the telecommunications equipped vans that travel the country gathering up to date data, to all the user submitted problem reports that they do investigate, would you want less quality for less money? Not me.

I Might Pull The Trigger At This Price

chimchim12 wrote:

Are you wondering if it will ever go lower or do you mean like in the next week or month? In all honesty, it quite likely will go lower, say on Black Friday. I suspect that you are wondering if it will drop substantially soon. Realistically, I think that is anybody's guess. I am kind of in the same situation as you wondering if now is the right time. I bought Lifetime Maps for the Garmin Nuvi 500. My Garminfone came with it. I am considering buying it for the Garmin Nuvifone G60. I guess the price is low enough now that whenever I do spring for it I shouldn't have any, or at least much, buyers remorse. If I bought it this weekend and the price drops another $10 this fall, so be it.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info!

Lifetime Maps

The lowest I've ever seen it was on Amazon for $54 right aruond Christmas time a couple of years ago.

lmt

With LMT models going for $117, wouldn't $117 for a brand-spanking new nuvi be better spent than $54 for lifetime maps? It's not just the map itself, it's the unit (processing, response, views). What happens if the old model fails, is lifetime maps @ $54 transferable to any unit you want?

Unfortunately no

johnnatash4 wrote:

From Garmin:
nüMaps™ Lifetime Terms and Limitations
If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately), you will receive up to four (4) map Data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin's website, for one (1) compatible Garmin product until your product's useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map Data from the provider, whichever is shorter. The updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same map Data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased, or updates to map Data that you purchased separately (if applicable). If your Garmin product does not include, or you do not purchase separately, the map Data you want to update using your nüMaps Lifetime subscription, then you must purchase the map Data separately before you can load the updated map Data onto your Garmin product. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the same map Data originally included with your Garmin product (or purchased separately, as the case may be), in which case you will need to select reduced map Data coverage for your updates. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this Agreement. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product.

.

Like canuk stated, the nüMaps Lifetime subscription is normally non transferable. However, Garmin has been known to transfer the subscription *in some cases* from a unit that has been damaged beyond repair and/or defective and returned to them with a replacement unit sent out in exchange. This move entirely up to them however and must be negotiated through Garmin directly.

Garmin doesn't want to be transferring subscriptions willy-nilly at the user's will. If you can prove the unit defective or deemed otherwise unusable, they may feel generous and transfer the subscription to a replacement unit.

The unit you have has more features than a 1350 which is pretty crippled as it is an entry level unit.

My 18 month old 1490t developed a problem where the traffic cable plugs in. Garmin swapped it out AND transferred the lifetime map updates, that I purchased a few months ago, to the replacement unit. They replaced quickly at no charge.

other than licensing issues

what is stopping someone from getting lifetime maps and loading it onto multiple units? e.g. Someone downloads a map and gives copies to friends. Or someone gets a new unit, replacing their old one that had the lifetime maps?

Garmin GPS (unlicensed units) won't be able to load the map.

lifetime maps subscription is tied to a specific units serial #

MikeSid wrote:

The lifetime maps subscription is tied to a specific units serial number and will not work on any other unit. There are very very limited circumstances that Garmin will allow the lifetime maps to be used on another unit other than the original unit.
