Garmin Lifetime Maps $86.00

Actually $82.99

You can get it for $82.99 from Amazon.com if you go with the card option:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PKTFM8

Not sure why the card should cost less than the online code, which involves no shipping, but why question it?

I am still waiting for a repeat of the April 4th deal of $69.99.

Clicking your link and then "digital Version" brings you to the $86.58 price. No way around it. Your going to pay the $86.58 for the update.
I will wait also for a better price (I may never get one though).

Daily Notification

I wrote a script twp months ago (bash shell script running on a Linux server for those of us programming folks) that scrapes the Amazon.com website every morning for the price of the online code and card versions of Garmin Lifetime updates and emails me those prices at 6:00AM ET. I check my email every morning to see those prices. The $82.99 price appeared July 3rd when it dropped from $84.99. It has been varying between $82.99 and $84.99 with $83.99 quite common. A few weeks ago, the online code version was $79.79 for a few days before hitting $86.58 where it stands now.

Please post when you get a great deal. I need one but can't use it just yet as my internet limits me to my downloads. Looking for a new internet in my area but can't find a good one.

Definitely. When I saw this thread this morning I had to chime in. The next map update is expected around the end of the month so possibly there will be some "incentive" price before then. Then again, maybe not!

Credit card

You can purchase the update with your credit card. Your financial institution will charge you in U.S.D. and add a minimal foreign conversion fee.

But you have to have a US billing address.

Thats right

As motorcycle mama said, you have to have a U.S.A. billing address for the online code version also for the free shipping I think. Maybe, if like me, you have relatives in the U.S., they will forward it on to you or it's a great excuse for a road trip.

Just get a UPS store mailbox across the border in upstate NY. I believe you can get it for just one month. Call your credit card company and give them a secondary billing address. They can do that without changing the primary. But the credit card charge will go through with a U.S. address. Get the lifetime maps and you only have to go through this once.

Hummm

Very weird.

I've purchased in the past parts for my wood pellet stove in the U.S. with my Canadian credit card and shipped to my home in Canada without a problem.

I've also on the other hand tried to order items elsewhere with my Canadian credit card and the seller wouldn't accept a foreign credit card.

Now if Amazon.com states they accept foreign credit cards and state here that they ship to Canada http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_n... I really don't see or understand why they wouldn't ship the Garmin card. rolleyes

It's a Garmin requirement/issue not an Amazon issue.

They are probably protecting their Canadian resellers from competition across the border.

http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/us/maps/numaps-lifetime
¹If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime™ subscription (sold separately), you will receive up to four (4) map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for one (1) compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. The updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the same map data originally included with your Garmin product, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD card or a SD card (as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD card or SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this Agreement. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product.

LOL

All that, just to say "NO"

Thanks

Nice

Would be great if the price was less. Kind of annoying that I have to buy separate for each of the 3 units I own.

this is an historical fact I have observed over many years of using Amazon...supply and demand...if a ton of people start hitting one item the price jumps and keeps rising til the demand falls to nil...JM2C YMMV

Yes, I think Amazon has a computer program to find the best price/volume combination. The remaining stock may also be factored in and maybe a sampling of prices at other vendors. You can put things in your Cart there, then change it to "Save for Later". When you go into the Cart again, it will give you any change of prices since the last time you were there. On many items you will see price changes almost daily, often by just a few cents. Human beings are not doing this, it's a computer.

GPSCity.ca has been selling

GPSCity.ca has been selling it for $89.99 for the longest time. It's in CDN so no worry of exchange rates. You do have to pay for shipping (unless you live in Calgary) but service is SUPER fast. I ordered mine Thursday morning and received it at my door the next day.

As for ordering items from Amazon.com I've never had a problem ordering "US-only" items using my Canadian credit card because I have both a US shipping and billing address attached to it. It's easy to setup with your credit card company and since I live close to the border, it's convenient for me to pick up packages, too.

For those people without programming skills and who own an ipod touch/iphone there's a free app that will track prices for you on Amazon. It's called "Price Tracker"

Sounds Nice

I downloaded it to see what it is like since it sounds interesting. Unfortunately it does not work on my iPod Touch 3G running iOS 4.0. The application crashes. I guess it needs an update to support the latest Apple OS.

NAVTEC Maps

I hear NAVTEC does the mapping, and they may do one every few years or maybe not. My nuvi is a couple year old, and near my home there is a road on the Garmin maps that the GPS routes me onto. This 1 mile dirt road was closed many years ago and woods have covered it. A newer paved road was installed some 1/4 mile away from the old dirt road. I thought the new map updates would correct this route, but it didn't. Not sure about newer roads in the states. However I did get many more POI's, new hotels, fuel stops, etc. Not sure the one time update was worth it.

Back to $85.99

The price is back to $85.99 with free shipping.

Or a designated US Shipping

Or a designated US Shipping address which I have used for years! Sirius & XM radio also required a US address and thousands of Canadians have used imagination to address that one.

NuMaps Lifetime

If you are shopping around for a new GPS, buying one with NuMaps Lifetime bundled saves even more money. I found the average street price of the 1490T without NuMaps Lifetime was $250. I found it at MacMall for $279 with NuMaps Lifetime bundled with the unit. So in essence the life maps only cost $29.00.
