Good deal. What about both lifetime maps and traffic in a new Garmin GPS for around $120 during sale time.

There's been two and a half years between these posts. Is this still relevant?

I need a new map upgrade, so I'm curious as to what is the best option.

Perhaps I should start a new thread?

One more thing. Since folks talk a lot about the pros and cons of buying on ebay, let me share one concern about buying on Amazon. If not careful, you may think you're buying straight from Amazon while you're actually buying from another vendor. If another vendor, all the warning of ebay buying apply--except when the vendor shows "Fulfilled by Amazon" which to me is as good and as risk-free as buying straight from Amazon itself.

If you bought it from GPS City as your suggesting it'll cost you 59.95$ + 5.99$ shipping + taxes in lets say the province of B.C for arguement sake for a grand total of 73.85$

73.85$ - 47.00$ = 26.85$

I do not see that much different on a map from 1 year to the next one, I wait a few year, before getting the latest map. does anyone purchase a New Map each year?

$47 USD, plus exchange, plus duty to Canada. GST/ HST is also charged on cross border purchases, and duty. IF you win the bid, that is.

The problem with One-Time map purchases is that two One-Time purchases cost more than a Lifetime purchase.

For essentially all (yes, there are always exceptions to this "rule") purchasers, the question then becomes: Should I buy a lifetime map update for my device or should I keep the current outdated map? The value of a One-Time map is poor for most people and the value is negative when comparing more than one One-Time map purchases for a device to the alternatives.

On the other hand, with Lifetime Map updates, there's no one requiring owners to spend the effort and time to update maps 4x/year if you're content with annual or 18-month updates. Just make sure that updates are done within 24 months to avoid the loss of a current lifetime subscription due to Garmin's new rules regarding Lifetime Maps.

I am getting clsoer to getting another one of these. I got one for my wife's Garmin Nuvi 500 in 2011. I am still rocking a Garmin Nuvi 350 and my map in CN 2013.3, so I am now out of date! On the other hand, I guess I need not be in a huge rush. If I knew that the map prices had bottomed out, I guess I would just do it.

I'd rather wait for a better GPS device than pay $86 for lifetime maps. And I'm in no hurry for a better device.

If Garmin drastically reduced the price of its updates, I think they'd actually make more money.

They aren't cheaper actually, given that many units come bundled with them now.

I did see a place on Ebay that is $40 plus shipping of for a Buy It Now on Garmin Nuvi nuMaps Lifetime North America Maps card. Maybe I will snag one or two of those!

Amazon's pricing does change and their deals tend to be best for a short period of time somewhere between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. You could also check their Daily Deals for very short term discounts, etc. but that requires effort on your part AND may delay your eventual purchase for weeks to months...

I see your eBay seller and all looks good--positive feedback including feedback from folks who bought the exact item. It's too bad that the seller insists on Priority Mail shipping for such a tiny item that could be shipped for under a dollar 1st Class. But on the positive side, if you're looking for a couple of the cards from the seller, I see that there's no extra S&H charge for the 2nd item.

As I'm sure you know, $45.60 for one (or $42.80 each when buying two) is a whole lot less expensive than $59.99 today.

The only thing I'd consider is the cost of this map update for your existing devices vs. a new Garmin nuvi LMT model for a bit more. I don't know that I'd pay $45-60 for lifetime maps for an ancient nuvi or Streetpilot when for around $100, you could buy a newer nuvi (with new battery and lifetime map updates) that offers Lane Assist, Junction View, Speed Limits, larger displays, etc., etc.

A good price but I would rather buy a unit with has unlimited maps data as part of the unit itself.

And normally that is exactly what I would do personally and recommend to others. However, in this case, I specifically want a Garmin Nuvi 350/360 to feed NMEA-0183 data to either an amateur radio for APRS and/or Uniden Home Patrol HP-1 for GPS based scanning.

You can frequently find lifetime maps much less than $50 if you shop around.

Using out of date SW. Don't know if update is worth it vice a new device.
