NuMaps Lifetime update

I just received my NuMaps Lifetime update card today. Snagged it for the $82.99 price. When I went to activate it on myGarmin, it said I had an update available for my 1690. Yet under myMaps, it says there are no updates.

Can anyone explain?

Wish I could have found one with lifetime maps included like gwbaker!

Meaning of Update Available?

When I activated the lifetime map on my 1490T, I wasn't really paying much attention, but it wound up updating the firmware on my device, then later told me that the map was up to date. Just a guess, but maybe the original "update available" statement means a firmware update is available or a map update is available?

I will have to watch Amazon

I am now several map updates behind. I need to buy the lifetime update package soon I suppose...I have to remember NOT to do any firmware updates though as I do not want to lose my next road coming up info.

Thanks.

Garmin Lifetime Maps $86.00

Question regarding Garmin Lifetime Maps. What do they mean by lifetime once they discontinue the model they no longer support.

Garmin has a long history of

Garmin has a long history of supporting models long after they discontinue a unit.

Here is the exact language for the program.

http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/us/maps/numaps-lifetime

¹If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime™ subscription (sold separately), you will receive up to four (4) map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for one (1) compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. The updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the same map data originally included with your Garmin product, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD card or a SD card (as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD card or SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this Agreement. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product.

Lifetime updates are download only--not DVD.

.

No DVD but there are two choices. You can get the code for your lifetime maps either by email or on a card (like a credit card) sent to you. Believe it or not, sometimes the card is cheaper.

Thanks for the info. If there is no DVD, how do you get it onto a computer, or transfer to a new computer once it's already downloaded?

Garmin Lifetime Maps

What is the lowest price they have for Garmin Lifetime Maps? and which store.

One-time

I have opted to do a one-time since my maps were about two years old. I'm not sure how long my trusty 550C will plug along, so I don't want to invest in lifetime for a unit that's 3 years old.

Garmin Lifetime Maps $86.00

I agree that your GPS model plays into the decision of lifetime maps or not. Why purchase lifetime maps when your unit only has a year or two left on it.

You can either download a special code or you can get a gift card with a scratch off coating over the code. Redeem it on the Garmin map site.

I'm not sure why people estimate the lifetime of these electronic devices with no moving parts so low. Except for the battery, which is replaceable, I would expect them to last almost 10 years, if you want to keep them that long. You can even run them without the battery. And the lifetime maps only cost about 50% more than the one-time map, so it doesn't take long to come out ahead.

Does anyone have any experience of a lifetime limit due to age of a GPS?

I downloaded it to see what it is like since it sounds interesting. Unfortunately it does not work on my iPod Touch 3G running iOS 4.0. The application crashes. I guess it needs an update to support the latest Apple OS.

That's good to know. I still haven't updated my Touch to iOS 4.0. I'm not sure I will because I can't find a compelling reason, yet.

I got mine from them a few weeks ago and YES, it was super fast shipping. I ordered Thursday morning with standard shipping. Got an email saying that it was shipped with FedEx complimentary 2-day shipping, and then it was at my door the very next day!

jfact wrote:

My 750 is already a couple of years old and I debated a long time whether I wanted to buy a new unit with more features. I decided that it was still going strong and went for the lifetime updates. Right after I installed the new map, I was held the Garmin up to show my wife and the unit slid out of its case and dropped on our maple wood floor from about 4 feet! EEK! I thought I had killed my GPS right after installing "lifetime" software--LOL.

Luckily, it's been working like nothing happened to it at all--whew!

Comp-U-Plus

Has anyone ever bought from Comp-U-Plus? Did a google search and they have lifetime updates for $69.99. Can't find any information about how much the shipping is.

Found it, $12.95 shipping. This is no better than Amazon. Will keep looking

If you are shopping around for a new GPS, buying one with NuMaps Lifetime bundled saves even more money. I found the average street price of the 1490T without NuMaps Lifetime was $250. I found it at MacMall for $279 with NuMaps Lifetime bundled with the unit. So in essence the life maps only cost $29.00.

Bill

I usually avoid those lifetime maps guarantees as my GPS's only seem to last a year or so at the most before they self-destruct. $30 seems more than fair, though.

Is it worth it to you?

scott_dog wrote:

The need for updates vs their cost is always debatable. For me the the desire for the latest roads and POIs justifies the cost. I have kept my 650 going 3 years with updates. On the other hand, with a new GPS available for around $100 you could argue that it would better just to buy a new low-cost GPS every few years. That would give you new features and better designs (you hope). In the end, as always, the cost/value of the lifetime update program is completely personal.

BTW for all: Amazon is down to $84 with free shipping. There are several prices on Amazon. This one is from Pavilion Electronics on Amazon. Shipping is free.

If you have the3790T, you should be eligible for the free map update.

Go to your my.Garmin.com page.

The Garmin site for the 3790T shows it will work:

Jumped At It

I jumped at the $79.95 this morning. Estimated ship date is August 13th. No big deal. Since it is a sealed container I can wait to activate it and see if the price drops any further. I might qualify for Amazon's price guarantee.
