New here and need a bit of help. (how to update; how to check)

Hi Everyone
I just found this site and it looks real nice!!

I did a quick search but I have a few questions.

After I download and install the Red light files. And new updates come out most Wed. How do I update? Do I overwrite the files I already have on my Garmin? Will the updated new file have all the old info in it?

Also how can I check the new POI I placed on my Garmin without driving to the locations to see if my alerts are set right?
I did rename a BMP image for each of the files.

Thanks!

Just replace the old

Just replace the old redlight and speed cameras with the new updates in your poi file and run poiloader and it will overwrite the ones in the gps.

To check your alerts touch tools, settings, system and turn simulator to on position.Go back to where to,extras, custom pois and select one of camera locations and hit go it will take you simulation mode.

Warm welcome to friendly site.
You can download new updates to your computer and replace it with the old one. then with POI loader just down load the new saved file to your device. It will replace the older file on the unit.
To check the POI you have download is really very easy. First place you should have knowledge what you have downloaded. Let me guide you with an example.
Suppose you have down loaded a RED light camera. and you know that near by intersection from your home has a camera. So just touch the map near by your car anywhere on screen the hold and drag to explore the same way as you do on google map or mapquest.
continue zooming. go top of the intersection. go to the last possible zooming of that intersection.you can see the camera icon on that intersection. ( before zooming you should have selected detailed map from main menu >> option >> map detail )
but if you wann listen the proximity alert then you have to drive on real time. or sometimes GPS stimulator may give proximity alert sound too. But the icon you can definitely see to make sure POI have been uploaded.

Simulation mode works for testing alerts

As mentioned above, set unit to simulation mode.

Select a start location near alert location (but outside of alert distance), set destination beyond alert location on the same road, and select Go.

You will hear alert as you 'drive' past the alert location.

How do you set the start location in sim mode ?

Is it possible to speed up the simulation ?

Thanks everyone!!!

Thanks everyone!!!

To set start location in sim mode:
Tools>System>Settings>Gps Simulator>change from OFF to ON>OK.
Then View Map>Touch map to get to map view - drag / zoom out / zoom in map to desired location>select Set Location. This places your vehicle at new location on map.

Sorry, you can't speed up simulation other that setting your vehicle location near designation.
