Newbie Question re: Nuvi 265WT - Favorites vs. POIs

I'm still learning the ins and outs of favorites and POIs. My understanding is that Favorites can show a symbol on the map regardless of how closely zoomed in you are and also only require an address; POIs, on the other hand, require lat/long, but won't show a symbol unless you are zoomed in quite close.

My question is: Can you have BOTH favorites and POIs created for the same set of points so that you can get a proximity alert and also see a symbol on the map?

Or am I totally not understanding something?

Thanks!

You are limited to 1000

You are limited to 1000 favorites. I would recommend custom pois and zoom in.

You can not set favorites to alert only the custom pois can do that.Yes you can have a favorite and a custom poi for the same coordinates but you have to select go to for a favorite or a custom poi.Having both with same coordinates will not produce what I understand you are trying to do.Be aware that unit once you get close to the end of the location the icon will show without zooming in as well as any other custom pois you have that are in the same close proximity.

It would be impossible to

It would be impossible to have all your poi's in favorites. But if you had a limited number of them, say a chain that has something like 20 stores, you could do it. I understand your thinking however.

Well, here is the actual

Well, here is the actual scenario...
I currently have about 15 clients scattered around the US (GA, VA, MD, PA, NY, IA, NM, TX, AZ, CA, and OR). In my niche market there are approx. 4,000 "prospects." So, obviously can't load them all in as favorites and will have to use POIs.

However, when I am in an area, say for example, Houston, TX, I would like to take a look at the map and see what other prospects are in the area.

I often fly into an airport the evening before a meeting and most of my meetings don't start until 6pm of the next day. That means I have all day, in many cases, where I can just do drop-in visits on prospects in the general vicinity of my client. In other words, I am not necessarily driving directly from Point A (airport or hotel) to Point B (client), but rather, would be intersted in seeing all prospects within 20 miles of my hotel, the airport, or my client.

Does that makes sense? That's why I was thinking of using both POIs (for the proximity functionality) and favorites so that a symbol would show up. Maybe I can break my addresses down by region (New England, Mid-Altantic, Southeast, etc.), so that I don't have more than 1,000 favorites in each file.

How do other sales reps handle a large database of clients and prospcts?

.

Not sure if this would help but when you look at your list of POIs and Favorites the list is automatically sorted by distance. So you could create a custom POI for your prospects and when you view the list it will automatically show you your closest prospects.

I know someone posted in the

I know someone posted in the past about custom pois they made for their customers. They use a gpx file and even included a picture of the client with the file. You may want to look at http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor .You would be able to input a lot of notes using gpx format.Like GadgetGuy stated you will see the closest 50 to you.So you could make a file for all the clients and would not matter what order.Only the closest 50 will show and will change as you move along.

Duplicates are not good

Yes, you can. But if you are routing to a POI, that will show on the map, too. So if you have a duplicate in your Favorites, they will both show on top of each other on the map display.
