Too bad
that 2010 was already released. Why buy a map was 1 year old?

Maybe some people like saving $25!! My understanding is that the 2010 maps cost $70. So you save $25 if you buy the 2009 maps for $45.
And there isn't a huge difference between the 2009 and 2010 maps.
nice deal
I will go to my local wallyworld later today and see if i can get the same deal.
That's half off what I paid
That's half off what I paid last year at Best Buy for those same maps.
For a Little over $90 on Amazon you can buy the lifetime maps
For a Little over $90 on Amazon you can buy the lifetime Garmin map updates card and that allows you up to four times a year to get the latest map updates right from Garmin.
The version I just got in April under the program was the 2010.10 maps and there are a lot of new roads, areas and POI's shown different then the 2009 map version.

Always nice to hear from the Garmin marketing folks.
could have at least got it correct if you are going to remark
Always nice to hear from the Garmin marketing folks.
As long as you were going to make a spurious remark you could have at least got it correct and said that it’s always nice to hear from the Amazon marketing folks.
If you read what I posted I was suggesting purchasing the lifetime update card from Amazon at a big discount from buying directly from the Garmin site.

Was Correct
It doesn't matter who sells the product, Garmin still makes a profit. And do you think Garmin makes a larger profit on a $45 item or a $90 item.
The simple fact is that this thread is about purchasing the older 2009 maps. So why bring up the lifetime maps???
If someone posts a question about purchasing a Nuvi 205 are you going to post and suggest they purchase a Nuvi 775T??
which purchase choice gives the most bang for the buck?
I could care less how much Garmin makes on either one of the two options, that has nothing to do with it.
The important thing is which purchase choice gives the most bang for the buck and value to the purchaser not what is best for Garmin.
Garmin Drive Smart 55 - Samsung Note 10 Smartphone with Google Maps & HERE Apps
Why not
Why not if it makes sense?
And in this case $90 for a life time subscription makes more sense in my opinion than $45 for an older version of map. And if you're really trying to save money the best you stick with the map that came with your unit.
It does make sense...
I agree. If I stumbled onto this thread by searching for map updates, I'd certainly appreciate the heads up on the $90 lifetime deal.
As this topic deals with people who are looking to upgrade their devices, I think it's worth mentioning all of the options.
another option ....
I think it's worth mentioning all of the options.
another option .... join AAA and get all the most up-to-date, paper maps you want - free! they'll even highlight a route for you with a cool orange marker.
LOL
Only if you are a AAA member

I have seen the future and it is now!
Isn't it early?

The '10 Rand McNally's are already out too. Maybe I'm funny that way, but it seems odd to be releasing something for 2010 when 2009 isn't halfway done yet. And I thought bringing out the new year's model cars in September was early....
Thanks for the heads up on the Amazon deal for lifetime maps. I may look into that later in the year.

2010 versus 2009 versus ... maps
I just got a new Nuvi 760 on eBay and downloaded/installed the 2010 maps. Big deal. Of the streets and POIs that I looked to be fixed or added, none were. Are POIs part of the map package?
About a year ago when I had a 360 and bought (on amazon.com) and installed the 2009 maps, quite a few of the POIs that I wanted were missing and still are.
Some time between then and now, I got on the Navteq site and submitted quite a few corrections to streets and POIs, e.g. restaurants to be added or deleted. Got few immediate replies from the site and again few are showing on my GPS.
A big for instance is that there are 2 Panera Breads in nearby Connecticut towns that have been open for several (at least 4-5) years that are not in the built-in POIs but a Panera Bread that opened more recently in nearby NY state is in there. Similarly nearby IHOPs that have been around for years aren't in there.
I also submitted a street that my old 350 or 360 said went through which doesn't. Google maps has it corrected now but my new 760 with 2010 maps does not.

AAA Maps
And the AAA maps aren't as good lately as they were. We also shouldn't be nasty when we reply. These comments used to always be friendly but lately they seem to have an attitude which is disappointing,

And what does your answer have to do with the OP's original statement, Or even Amazon as far as that goes? Have you ever considered that someone might only have $45.00 and still have 2008 maps? and just maybe no credit card to shop on-line with.

Yes, I did appreciate the heads-up. Could someone post the direct link to the Amazon item so I don't have to go searching for it? I'll add it to my Wish List so my wife can see it in time for Father's Day.

More options
I agree. Knowing that there is an option to buy the lifetime maps for $90 gives you more information to make a choice. You can make the best decision for yourself - nobody else.

I just ordered this update from Amazon for around $95 with free shipping. I live around Tampa, FL and the roads are constantly changing, there is new construction everywhere. The four times a year updates will be great.

Be aware
Yes, I did appreciate the heads-up. Could someone post the direct link to the Amazon item so I don't have to go searching for it?
I don't see this mentioned. Just so you're aware, the lifetime maps are only good for a single GPS. If yours breaks or you decide to purchase a different model in the future the "lifetime" label won't apply.
I think this is the link you're asking for: http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Lifetime-America-Updates-detail...
Kinda long and unwieldy. If it doesn't work just go to Amazon.com and search for "Garmin Lifetime Map."

I'm glad you posted this. I wasn't aware of it. Ignore the haters that like to "rain on your parade".
Going to wal-mart
Thanks, I only have 5 gb a month on my Verizon Broadband Wireless so downloading the lifetime maps is not an option for me.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know wal-mart sold them.

Yes, that was it, and it's now happily in my Wish List for someone who wants to buy me a present, or if I get $100 burning a hole in my pocket.
Yes, I knew that the lifetime update is only good for the life of my current unit. I have a traffic receiver so I could always subscribe to traffic updates, but I rarely travel in an area that uses that service, so it would probably not be a wise investment for me. However unless something totally unforeseen comes out, I can't envision wanting to buy a newer unit anytime soon. The 750 has all the features I need and all I'd really ever do to it is upload current maps. So the only reason I can see myself upgrading anytime soon is if mine breaks (it's almost out of warranty).
Thanks again for the link.

thanks
Thanks for the heads up, but the lifetime is a great deal. The thing is I've never updated my maps and they server me fine the way they are. Yes, there are some new streets not on it, but they are few and far between and I can use Google Maps on my G1 if need be.

Not really a great deal

When you could buy the 2010 DVD online for around $60. I have already seen the 2010 DVD advertised for $59.95 online already. 25% off isn't too bad a deal, though. Just depends on much extra you're willing to pay (or not) to have the latest (or not).
