2.5mm jack on mounting clip

I just bought a Nuvi 360 and I've got it wired in the car (so audio would play through the car speakers and the unit runs off of the car battery). Today I picked up the last component I would need. It's a step down jack adaptor. To go from 3.5mm to the 2.5mm.
After spending about a half hour getting the cables back in to place, I turn the car on and the sound is coming out the internal speakers. The 3.5mm on the side of the unit works but the 2.5mm on the mounting clip thing doesn't. I spent some time playing around with other devices to make sure the cables were all hooked up and they worked fine through the car speakers. The mini usb on the back of the clip thing works (the usb and the 2.5mm are wired together).
So my questions, is it a 2.5mm for audio or is it for something else? Does it work for anyone else? Can I buy a replacement clip? Are they expensive? Can I repair that 2.5mm jack myself? I'm not sure if the piece is covered under the warrenty. Also I opened the mount clip up myself to make sure everything was making contact (and it is). But that voids the 1 year replacement (and you can tell I opened it).
The 3.5mm cable I've got has an end on it about 1.5 inches long. And sticking out of the side of the GPS makes the whole setup look sloppy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
On my 760 the 2.5mm jack is the mic input.

Yep. It's the microphone jack.
Ah damn. Okay. Thanks for
Ah damn. Okay. Thanks for the help. I'll just have to modify the cable to clean it up.

Wiring the audio
I am in the process of doing the same thing with the audio do you use your gps for mp3 as well or have you split the input and use an ipod as well. I'm just trying to figure out how to wire both with out sound loss.
I just use the MP3 function
I just use the MP3 function of the GPS. It's why I got the 360 instead of something else. That way the music is paused, the voice prompt comes in then the music resumes. That way I can kind of make out the street names (You should hear it pronounce Ypres Av or Ouellette Av.)
I've never spliced multiple audio inputs to one line before. I've always worked on the principle of "1 audio line per device". Just because of the audio corruption. Though I think Radio Shack sells a "two in one to one..." or a "three in one to one..." line.

Audio from Cradle
Sundive - you can modify your cradle to add an audio line to run to your stereo. But it is not for the faint of heart.

Splitting the Signal
I just bought the Belkin RockStar which is a splitter it has one dedicated input and 5 outputs but it comes with a second 3.5mm plug so you can have 2 devices and mix them. I am going to connect the dedicated line to my iPod and connect the second line to the GPS. then just use one of the outputs and connect it to my aux in on the car. What I am not sure of is if the iPod music and the GPS sound is going into each other if so is that bad for both units. Does anyone know?
Thanks
That's awesome. Thanks so
