Nuvi price is dropping fast.

It is the time!

They were sold at a loptop price (350 $450-$550; 360 $550-650).

Since the "generic" GPS (such as MIO C310X) have been sold for under $200. The pressure is building up. Recently, Costco started selling 350 for $350, Amerzon is following. Last time I checked, a 360 is for ~$460. Another $50 drop will make these units more reasonablly priced.

That amazon deal is about $50 less than what I spent in Dec 2008. That's about 10 bucks price drop every month. If I keep waiting, I'd never buy one.

760

I paid $225 for my 760. I love it. I had Tomtom for the last year and it really sucks compared to Garmin.

Garmin is feeling the competition

The price keeps dropping as the competition tries to gain marketshare.... I lost hundreds on my 780, will wait a while before upgrading again (and will buy 'last months' model).

Look at this GPS http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23654 .

Sirfstar III, FM transmitter, bluetooth, MP3 MP4, included 2G SD, Igo maps, 4.3", etc, for $110 with free shipping!

interesting note

785T from Amazon

I just got a 785T from Amazon 2 weeks ago for $289.00 It was from a 3rd party - but it was new not refurb or used.
Happy with it so far.

has it (785T) for $399, new as well. Still 110 higher than the amazon bargain.

Amazon Price

Still at $209 for the 760....darned tempting but can't really justify it while my present GPS is doing the job. I guess when it finally dies the price may be $100 or so (can hope, right?)

Nuvi Prices Dropping

What's the best price anyone can find on the 775 ?

Amazon had it for $416 a couple of weeks ago.

Speaking of the two (775T and 755T), there are 2 differences:
Bluetooth and preloaded map. And yet the MSRP difference is $300. Why charge so much for so little extra features? That's not worth it.

Thats my thought too. I

I didn't need the bluetooth, didn't need the traffic updates... minus those two things and the price REALLY drops.

Prices Fluctuate

I was close to buying a Garmin Nuvi 500 on either Amazon or Dell (with LifeTime Fitness membership discount). It had been just shy of $240 with free shipping at both places. Sometime over the past weekend the price went up on both sites. From what I have been reading, Amazon prices go up and down. I did not realize that until recently.

I use NexTag for price shopping. http://www.nextag.com/Nuvi-500/stores-html I see that the 500 is available for $245.00 to $399.00.

The 260W shows up as being available for $149.00

With garmin making so many

With garmin making so many models, and so many models being sold today (780 for example) are so called "non-current" models most people just throw their arms up in the air in frustration.

It can be infuriating for a newbie to go into a store and find a 7X0 model and buy it only to discover it was sort of toasted by Garmin quite some time ago...

By the way just change the model to any one sold in stores today that no longer shows on the Garmin current products area.

Playing...

Playing the waiting game sucks, but I'm still happy with my c530 and don't plan on getting anything new but maps and holders for the unit.

BE careful

I tried to get something I saw on Bradsdeals and was very disappointed. they listed a price that was not available.

MJA wrote:

I was going to post a comparison of my 200W against my 1490T, but the 1490 is still so buggy that I just don't have the energy to write down all the bad things about it.

Here's the latest though as an example. I've got probably 40-50 POI files from POI-Factory representing 700K individual POIs that I'm interested in. I travel 100% throughout the US and Canada so I want them all just in case I'm in the area. I recently noticed that the 1490 loads them all without any error message, but that none of the Dunkin Donut files show up in the Extras folder (DD-US, Dunkin Donut (GPX), Dunkin Donut (CSV)).

I live for Dunkin coffee so this is not a good thing. Tonight, I tested the validity of the files by downloading them (all 700K) into my 200W, and guess what? Yep, all the DD files appeared just like I expected.

I'm seriously ready to call my American Express support (how I bought the 1490) and asking them to credit my account and arguing with Garmin on the basis of Garmin not selling me a product that meets the "warranty of merchantability". That simply means that what Garmin sold me doesn't perform up to its claims.

I'm giving Garmin tech support one more chance though, so hopefully this will be over in a few days. Until then, I'm still traveling with two GPSrs--how silly is that?

Good Luck With That

After bringing several things that my Nuvi 500 was supposed to do, according to the manual, and didn't do, my Garmin tech laughed when I said "then since it will not preform as stated in the manual, then of course your going to refund my money, right?"

He then said, "We will get around to fixing that some time in the future."

Gotta love those Garmin Techs.
