Nuvi price is dropping fast.

It is the time!

They were sold at a loptop price (350 $450-$550; 360 $550-650).

Since the "generic" GPS (such as MIO C310X) have been sold for under $200. The pressure is building up. Recently, Costco started selling 350 for $350, Amerzon is following. Last time I checked, a 360 is for ~$460. Another $50 drop will make these units more reasonablly priced.

I saw at Costco that they were offering free lifetime map updates and traffic with the Garmin but when I thought about it for a couple weeks and decided I wanted another Garmin, they changed it to 99 dollars for lifetime Maps. I will wait till they give me the full meal deal.

As with any electronic

As with any electronic device, GPS prices will keep dropping as technology advances. Think how much computers used to cost 10 years back. If you wait out, you'll get a better price but you will lose out on using the device for that long.

For Some the Price Will Never Be Low Enough

boteman wrote:

The way to look at it is: if you buy now and the price drops later, you've gotten that much $$$ utility out of thing, so it's not "wasted" money. You had the unit and used it while the price was dropping.

Somebody else waiting for the price to drop is not enjoying the utility of the GPS. Consider it opportunity cost.

When the price hits a level that you can afford yourself, buy it.

This is so true. Wait, wait, wait...and never buy.

You have lost the use of the item for days, weeks, months, maybe years.

Heed the advice above and buy when you can afford it and enjoy!

Can't say I personally feel like I missed anything by not being on the bleeding edge financially of rapidly improving products like flat screens or GPS devices.

That being said, even the cheapest Garmin offers all the same *basic* functionality, interface and view as the most expensive. Few *average* users could casually tell the difference between Garmin's while in direction mode outside of spoken street names.

Amazon Gold Box Deal 3/8/10: nuvi 765T, $184.99

Amazingly, the price of the nuvi 765T has skyrocketed to about $275.00... almost a $100 increase from 4-5 months ago.

I wonder if the 4.0 firmware is the reason.

755T forever

I decided on my 755T a year ago; it had everything I ever needed and more. Didn’t actually need ‘auto GPSR’ but dreaming is free…

I was using LegendHCx for navigation on road, never had an issue.

Well, I started dreaming of 3790T but price is currently ridiculous (CAD$ 450+tax) and I am not Garmin’s guinea pig nor I am willing to pay Garmin to debug their wares (they should pay US!), so…

7x5T has been discontinued and prices significantly dropped! Brand new was purchased for CAD$210. And it confirmed what I decided a long time ago. Best ever Garmin’s GPSR.

I read people complaining about weak speaker?! I do not about that since I have to keep it at 80%. 100% is way too loud. Yes, I would not mind little bit brighter screen but there is no perfect unit nor it will ever be.

7x5T

HagaWaga wrote:

As of today (8/4/2010), the 7x5 series has not been discontinued. The 755T, 765T and 775T are still listed in the current lineup on both the US and Canada Garmin sites. The 785T was discontinued several months ago because of the bundled MSN Direct receiver, but for now, the other 7x5 models are still current.

Your 755T was a good bargain and a good choice, especially now that Garmin has fixed the touch screen problems with firmware 4.0.

Nuvi 350 aging but...

I was on a trip out west with my Nuvi last week, and on a drive a horizontal stripe about 1/4" high and across the length of the screen started to flash on and off. It happened for about a half hour. The next day and ever since it's been fine, although I haven't used it that much since.

I don't know if it's some internal circuit that got hot, or if perhaps some voltage fluctuation was occurring because of some weirdness with the rental car wiring. I have no great desire to spend money I don't have too. Nor do I want to hold on to a unit that's unreliable. Anyone have any knowledge or thoughts as to what was happening, why it just happened that one time, and what I might be in store for in the foreseeable future, which will determine whether I buy a new unit or not.

Thanks in advance.

If you go to major Canadian retailers (GPS City, GPS Central) and big box stores (FutureShop, BestBuy) you will NOT find 7x5 in stock. Only 755T is hanging until stock runs out.
Garmin site can show whatever they are pleased and they WILL sell you refurbished or similar but 7x5 is history. Last chance to get REALLY good GPSR.

As for the v4.0 - thank you very much but it killed Garmin Language guide which I paid $75; so I will stick with v3.8 for a while.

It is indeed the Lifetime Map Updates ($99.99 value) and since it is the 765T, Lifetime traffic is also free on the unit (ad based). It is a good deal .. they charge tax plus ground shipping is $11. Special is valid until Labor Day (Sept 6th, 2010).

I had the line across the top of my 755T for a while and contacted Garmin about it. They just replaced it without a problem.

Mine would show right after starting up, and the map wouldn't draw for close to 2 minutes. It may not be the exact same problem, but Garmin might take care of it.

Did I understand correctly? Is there a 765T WITH lifetime maps and lifetime traffic for $199??? I have a 765T and know the 765T comes with lifetime traffic (ad based). But is there one with lifetime maps now too for that price? If so, I may want to get another one!

GPS Price Drop

Talk about price dropping on GPS--I just (three weeks ago) purchased a Garmin 255W 4.5 screen for (drum roll please) $89.95 from Amazon. It was advertised as "factory reconditioned" but came in the original clamshell packaging with all the parts that come with a "new" unit down to the protective film on the screen.

It looked and worked as a brand new unit.
I suspect that this was indeed a new unit that was either overstocked or soon to be discontinued but is perfect for my needs. I can download all POI's, it stores hundreds (or thousands) of pictures with a SD card, standard type or SDHC or micro (with adapter available)--usually comes with the micro cards.

This unit is still advertised at most vendors for around $150 (or more) so I am thrilled with my purchase! Hope this helps--happy navigating!
