Happy you bought a Garmin?

I will not mention the other (very well known and generally respected) brand - but share the experience. A relative bought another brand - near the top of their range. For a user who has just a little problem finding the on switch on a computer ( wink ) and who has never had a GPS before - soon well out of their depth. question

I have a Nuvi 250W (not exactly the top of the range) and do know my way around a computer, but admit to getting close to out of my depth with it as well. confused

Their manual was inadequate - unhelpful - on problems and you really had to understand the language to find solutions on the website and do a fix.

We tried to buy a needed map. OK - that bit was relatively easy - except there was no warning that a download like that would not work on 250kb link speed - the best they can get where he lives - (no explanation). Only found that after a search for solutions! evil

ADDED

OK OK - It was a TomTom - and I am telling you that because they have refused to help! Go to a friend and try it there! evil

I have posted a request for help on stalled downloads in the TomTom talk.... see what happens next!

Go GARMIN!

What happened next.

Still no real help from TomTom - but the download was tried again and actually worked so at least he has the map - but OH the trouble! Thoroughly convinced me where to stay.....

Zumo

The Zumo 550 is the best all around when you have a bike. I recently took it off the bike and put it in a rental for a family vacation then back onto the bike for some fun (get lost in the twisties then turn it on to get back home - smile). You have got to love it!!!

U Betcha I'm Happy with My Nuvi 350

My Nuvi ends my day with a 30 minute Spanish lesson in the audiobook mode. On Saturdays I go garage-saling
and program the various addresses into my Nuvi and her pleasant voice guides me right to appropriate driveway to peruse more junk. Three weeks ago I got lost in Teton National Park and Ms. Nuvi rescued me from mountain lions and grizzly bears. On the same trip she took me to the doorstep of a friend who lives on a farm in the country in Northern Idaho. Now if the darn thing would only predict my winning Powerball number, I'd really be in business. Garmin Rocks!!

KBris

It started with running.

Seven years ago when my knees were still good, I started running--at the age of 61. I am a data freak, so I bought a Garmin running system. (I forget what it is called--a watch and a receiver on an armband.) I loved it through 5000+ miles of running.
Now a Garmin 250W sits on my dash. Driving with it is even more fun than running with my old one. But I'm getting fat!

I am happy with my 660, but I think the poi icon is a little small.

Directionally challenged

Are you kidding? I'm not going to tout Garmin over any other dedicated GPS device but I love my Nuvi 760 and used my love of it to goad a coworker into buying a GPS system for her husband's birthday.

I tried twice with my Palm to get a GPS solution that worked but not until I got my Nuvi is this geek truly happy.

I just got an Invisible Shield for my Nuvi to make sure my ham-fisted attempts at controlling it don't damage it to irreparably.

Love My c550

I still own both Magellan and a Lowrance handhelds, and they continue to serve me well for Geocaching. For awhile I was using Mapopolis on my Palm as a car navigation system with a interface cable that I made to connect to the Magellan and it worked ok. But now that I have the Streetpilot... life is sweet.

Garmin Fan

I bought an original eTrex when they first came out to use for my outdoor activities. I have used that thing in all kinds of weather extremes and it has never let me down. I have updated the firmware a couple of times and still use it to this day (mostly for geochaching, now).

When shopping for my first "on the road" GPSr, it was a no-brainer--Garmin was the only manufacturer that was even considered. About a year ago, I bought a Nuvi 200W. Not high end, but I am extremely happy with it.

I use a bean bag mount so I can transfer it between my wife's car and mine. I travel all over the US for a living, and use it in my rental cars--I don't know how I lived without that thing!

I installed a Ram-Mount and have used the Nuvi on my Harley for a few thousand miles. Garmin doesn't recommend using that model on motorcycles, but it survives the vibrations quite well, and I never let it get wet.

So, to answer your question, yes I am happy I bought a Garmin and I'm looking forward to many more years of having a woman tell me where to go wink.

It's great. I'm not exactly

It's great. I'm not exactly great with directions. I'm more of a turn left in 3 miles person. I don't get lost 3 miles away from my house - which is a great thing.

RMA Was Good And Bad

RMA was good and bad. I had a broken swivel socket on my c550. Got an RMA and sent it in for repair. The good news is that Garmin sent me a newly refurbished unit with an updated NT2009 map. The bad thing... they didn't replace my mapsource maps I paid for that were Unit ID specific with an unlock code!!! Hopefully the map vendors will understand and generate new ones for me. I'll keep you posted.

Love My Garmin

I bought my Streetpilot 7200 about a year ago and this thing is great. Of course it should be for the price. It's maps are easy to interpret the music player is a neat feature but my favorite extra feature is the ability to hook up a backup camera and it switches automatically when i put my truck in reverse.

driving without one??

I couldn't imagine driving in unfamiliar areas without my Garmin Nuvi 350. It's no doubt the best electronic "toy" I have ever bought. Even my wife thinks so. LOL

Happy you bought a Garmin?

I could not be any happier with my 660. I have not had any problems with it since I purchased it 2 years ago and with the Garmin updates and POI Factory information I would not own any other GPS.

On Garmins...

I owned a Forerunner 201 (when it wasn't cool), a Forerunner 205 (now it's cool) & a Nuvi 255W.
I now use the 205 twice daily & the 255W twice weekly. Been through lots of Garmin tech support through the years, all with great experiences. I've used tech support a lot, mostly because of... a) lack of documentation, or b) doing something advanced or upgrading something on the unit(s).
I have not been a lot of problems with any of these units. Money well spent!

Yes

I bought a Nuvi 660, and i think it is great. My wife wants one now. I will be getting her a Garmin soon.

Happy with Garmin

I am happy with my Garmin Nuvi 650 but it is very basic. If I were to get another, I would try for the Nuvi 750 or 760. Also, I don't have a lot of time to learn all of the options available so I guess I am not using it to its full potential.

I am happy with Garmin

I am happy with my Garmin GPS.

Garmin has suited me so far but . . .

I'm very happy with my Garmin devices. I started with a GPSMap 60CSx because I wanted something to take hiking and measure/document my tracks (I'm trying to lose some weight and it's nice to finally have the exact mileage for all those walks in the woods I took in the past).

I also just got a nuvi 200 free for signing up for a Discover Miles card. I think I saw that offer when I was checking out from buying a new TOPO 2008 map for the 60CSx. The nuvi is definitely a lot easier to use in the car with the touch screen and voice directions (the 60CSx only beeps near turns). I'm still learning the nuvi 200 and having fun with it.

But . . . since I haven't tried any other brands other than Garmin, I can only say that I'm very happy so far and don't see the need to try the other big brands for now!

Couldn't be happier!

Haven't tried another 'brand' but am completely satisfied w/my Nuvi 760. Son & I travel all over camping and this is my first summer w/the Nuvi. It has saved us so much time, effort, short tempers, gas, etc. I couldn't do w/out it now!

I've been very pleased with

I've been very pleased with both of my Garmins. But, I've never tried any other brand, so my opinion isn't based on any type of comparison. Unless you count a comparison against paper maps, in which case "I've been very pleased." smile

nuvi 760

I am happy with my new 760.
Though it did hang couple of times, which does not happen in my previous 660.

I can also update to the 2009 map.
This is quite important to me, because my current living area is a new community and is not covered in 2008 map.

i lent my garmin to a friend

i lent my garmin to a friend because she needed it.. but i needed it too.. so i borrowed my uncle who had a tom tom... lets just say im PROUD to be a garmin nuvi owner!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah!
Used to own a C340 - now own nuvi 350. LOVE my current unit - however, would really love to have lane assist like navigon smile

Glad I bought a Garmin

Oh Yeah I am truly happy with my c330 and I am also happy with the traffic antenna add on. That alone has gotten me through so many traffic tie ups. I travel about 225 days per year and am up and down the Eastern Seaboard. I recently found out how to download custom POI's. Yes I am happy and would recommend a Garmin to anyone!!!!

Another point of view...

I've two Garmins (eTrex Legend grayscale and 276C), and both do what they're supposed to rather well. However, when I wanted something that had street-level maps AND NMEA input/output from the factory (rather than having to add hundreds of dollars worth of maps and cards), I bought an AvMap G5. Granted, if I had that purchase to do over again, I'd have bought a Garmin 378 (which I may still do) but I like the AvMap.
Garmin's great, but it's not the only fish in the sea.

I'm loving my GArmin.

I'm loving my GArmin. Highly recommend it to anyone who does not have one yet.

Generally Happy

I am generally happy with my Nuvi. It is portable and easy to use. I do wish the fm antenna was better so it would be more useful, playing through my radio. With Nuvi 680, I have to admit the MSN Direct was not worth the $50. to renew. I am in the Los Angeles area and didn't follow the directions around the traffic anyway.

Still, I depend on my Garmin quite a bit and glad I got it.

I am very happy with my Garmin. I also have a friend who baought a different brand (which I wont mention) and it is not as user friendly or dependable as the trusty ole Garmin. I did a lot of research before I purchased mine, and the results would always come back the same! I would definitely recommend a Garmin to anyone.

Personally, though it is not one of the high end models, we really like ours. We use it every time we go on a trip and ti has been extremely helpful to us. Far better than MapQuest or Google Map.

Happy with Garmin?

Absolutely! The best customer support of any company I've ever done business with, and a first rate product at a very reasonable price. I can't think of any reason to switch to another brand.

yes

I am happy with my 680, a little more than a year old. I look forward to getting the 880 or the successor.

Great GPS, but...

I'm happy with the GPS, but I ordered a case and another mount/adapter kit, and I got an e-mail confirming the order, and saying I would be notified when it shipped. A week later and no e-mail, so I send an e-mail asking what's up. They let me know the mount/adapter kits are backordered but they'll ship the case. So then I get an e-mail saying everything shipped, and on my account page at their site, it says my order is complete. Hmm.. A couple of days later, I get just the case. Another e-mail, and then they say oh, those are shipping seperate... Eventually I got everything, but I don't consider all that very good customer service.

I'm super happy I went with

I'm super happy I went with my Garmin (Nuvi 350). My sister recently got a Tom Tom ONE and the thing is not user friendly at all.

Garmin for life!

Very happy with Garmin

I had Navman and Tomtom but when I bought Garmin I am very happy with them. Go Garmin.

Garmin

I owned a Tom Tom One XL for about 2 weeks before I took it back. The maps were inaccurate and I figured that could be an issue if I was traveling and had no idea where I was.

I bought a Nuvi 200 and haven't regretted it. Text to speech would be nice but I don't need bluetooth or an mp3 player (the car takes care of that) so I didn't want to pay for things I didn't need. Maybe someday I will look into upgrading it to something with a widescreen and text to speech but this one hasn't let me down yet.

Garmin Nuvi 650 purchase

Hi everyone.

I picked up a Garmin Nuvi 650. I have had it for almost 2wks. My first GPS. I wanted to have the text to speech, and widescreen so I chose the 650.
Works great. We were trying to find a AAA location in our area over the weekend. The 650 kept telling us to go a different route than we normally take. We took the route we knew. When we arrived at the the location. The office had moved so we used the 650 to take us to the new location. I am still learning but having fun so far.
I downloaded the Rest Area POI which are nice to have when traveling.
I am happy so far. I have until Thursday to return or exchange this one but I think I will keep it.
Any issues I need to be aware of with this model?

Thanks. This is a Great Site!

I have one also

And really no problems with it, if your using it on the battery alone it dont last as long as garmin thinks it should, But that dont bother me cause i keep it on the plug most of the time, some times it is slow to show the routes but no big problem, i like it a lot.

John - with a Garmin 650 and a 750

Happy with my Garmins

My Nuvi 350 is the fourth handheld Garmin I have owned. I have always been impressed with how easy they are to use and figure out. I was very impressed with the customer service recently when my 350 stopped making noise. I call support and got an RMA number right away. Got a rebuilt unit back with updated maps. Sent a follow-up e-mail about having the 2008 CD for mapsource and wondering about a 2009 CD to go with the updated maps on the GPS. Got the 2009 CD for free two days later. Can't beat that.

I also like their panel mount units in the aircraft I have flown.

Yeah to that. I found the manual inadequate for my lack of auto/road experience. But I did not know the 880 was not operating like it should until they did the last software update and it was like WOW when I turned it on afterward.

There is more to the GPS operation than going from point A to point B, and realizing that has consumed me for the last 6 weeks! Just ask my husband....he says I am compulsive and obsessed with using every feature. And HE is the engineer in the family, I am the one who tinkers with gadgets.

But with my Nuvi, I have a LOT to keep me busy.

Yes!!

We just went on a 2,000 mile round trip and we used the Garmin NUVI 200 way more than the built in factory GPS that came in my wife's Ford Edge.

The Garmin was easier to use, more intuitive, and better graphics.

The Garmin was $139 and the Ford GPS was $2500!

DOH!
