We used this file a lot during our latest vacation, and I stumbled upon a few "oddities":

Strange one: addres is correct, TomTom tried to make us stop about 3 miles east of the actual store. Probarbly a TomTom error.

all in all: Thank you very much for this POI file ! Maybe add a remark to the download page: ALWAYS ask at customer service what their policy is. Even when there are tons and tons of signs "no overnight parking", some still allow short term overnight parking i.e. 24 hour. And when you are as embarrassed as I am: tell them you rented a RV and have heard stories of overnight stays at Walmart. Ask them if thats true Saves you a red head (saved me a red head...)

I notice there is a separate file for Wal-Marks with "No Overnight Parking allowed and the so-called combined file. It would be great to have the Wal-Marts not permitting overnight parking to be so noted in this "combined" file.

the file I downloaded has all walmarts. The ones that do not allow overnight parking are marked as ***NOP***.

I'm a west coast wal-mart driver. Who do I send updates to? I can send new store # and address the day of opening.

As a wal-mart driver I can tell you 9 times out of 10 (NO OVERNIGHT PARKING) is a city enforced ordinance not a store enforced.. There are stores that No RV'S or Trucks Even a Wal-mart truck can't park at!!!

Post them on this site. I maintain the file and check here frequently

In my opinion Wal-Mart Parking lots or for shoppers. RV/Campgrounds are for overnight stays.

In my area, Walmart has closed an old store and opened a new 24 hour Supercenter store to replace it.

Old store closed mid-August 2009, moved, and re-opened as a Super Wal-Mart.

I realize keeping the Walmart/Sams file is a big task. Until last summer one of our members was posting several versions of the file that were essentially subsets of the master combined file.

My knowledge of Excel is minimal at best, but what I would like to do is take the current combined file and make a separate list of only those site that have gas stations.

I see that the 2nd column of the .csv file has the word GAS in the string for the sites that have a gas station. How can I grab only those rows and save them as a separate .csv file?

Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated.

Paste the following in cell E1 and copy it across to H1.
Copy cells e1-h1 and paste the formulas in all rows.

Highlight E1-H1 to the end of the list. Right click, copy, right click again and PASTE VALUES. Delete columns A through D, eliminate empty rows and you have what you wanted.

Fairly easy. Just over to the right like in cell K1 put a formula like this:
=IFERROR(FIND("GAS",C1),0)

Then copy it down to the column. For every entry with GAS in column C, it will give a number greater than 0 and 0 if GAS is not found. Then sort all the data based on Col K so that all the 0 entries are either at the top or bottom. Get rid of the 0 entries.

If you want to keep the original order of the stores with just the GAS stations, in another empty column, fill the cells from 1 to 4655 before you do the above sort. Then once you get the non-gas stations removed you can then sort on these numbers to get back to like the original order.

There are 1531 gas stations I found. If you want the excel spreadsheet doing this, just send me a message TXRVer and I'll send it to you.

This was built earlier this year. Roads are all new for this one which I haven't seen on any maps yet so if you look on a hybrid map, it will likely look like an empty field but that's about where it is.

Are the individual files for the Super Walmart and Sams going to be updated? I noticed the combined file had new entry's. I prefer to keep the regular Walmarts out of the file. When traveling with a RV, I prefer the Supers & Sams.

I maintain the combined file and am not planning on splitting them out. I also Travel by RV and 90% of the time we park and then go back to the store by car for just the problems you cited.

The Sam's Club in La Quinta, CA has been closed and is out of business since Jan 22, 2010.

I maintain the cobined GPS file and need the coordinates for the new Sam's Club in Allentown, PA.

I have the info and data but the address is not in GoogleEarth or any place else that I can find. Please submitt GPS coordinates.

The Wal*Mart store in Eufaula, Alabama has been supersized. The old store was located at 1252 S Eufaula Ave, Eufaula, Alabama – coordinates -85.150827,31.876786.

The new store opened it’s doors on March 10th, 2010. It is located at 3176 S Eufaula Ave, Eufaula, Alabama. Google address coordinates will get you close, but using Google Earth, a large construction project which appears to be of the nature of a Wal*Mart Super Center can be seen at coordinates -85.167338,31.843350.

A google search for Walmart, Eufaula, AL will confirm the above information.

The Walmart store in Hickory Creek/Denton, TX has incorrect coordinates. The address
1035 Hickory Creek Blve, Hickory Creek, TX 75065 nails the location. The coordinates -97.0905,33.1511 places the location several miles to the north in the middle of a housing area. More correct coordinates would be -97.045515,33.129943.

Walmart store #2755 is listed as 5341 Lakeland Drive in Brandon, MS 39047. The city and Zip are incorrect. This store is actually in Flowood, MS 39232. The original coordinates will take you to the boonies. A more appropriate coordinate is
-90.024293,32.353785.

Walmart #1442 in Page AZ, has incorrect GPS data. However, the address is correct. Coordinats are in the middle of nowhere several miles in the east.

These updated coordinates will place you right in front of the store between the two entrances.

The Super Walmart at 1205 West Ferdon St., Litchfield, IL has the following incorrect location on the 5/10/2010 POI file.

The correct location as marked by my Garmin 760 is about a half mile to the west and slightly north. The correct location is:

This can be confirmed on Google Maps. Enter the new coordinates in your GPS and locate it on the GPS map. Then find approximately the same location on Google Maps. Drag the steet view figure to 1321 Historic Route 66 This is a few hundred yards north of W Ferdon St. The store is on the west side of Historic Route 66. You will see a picture of an older style blue Walmart sign by the turn-off into the parking lot.

The cooordinates here, and in the latest Garmin maps, are both SLIGHTLY off. tjhey both recommend a Uturn to an imidate destination which turns out to be a 7-11.
it SHOULD recommend, at kleast when traveling north on Beach, a left turn and about 100 yards to the entrance.

If yoou're going northbound on Beach blvd, the front entrance is problamatic, with all the barriers and freeway onramps at this location..
THe southbound entrance is no problem if you're coming to this store from the north...
But, im gouing to suggest using the side entrance as the locatioon for this Walmart, figuring southbound travelers will have to maybe 150 yards out of their way, if they dont happen to see the front entrance. and northbound travelers will avoid a half mile trip to the uturn to get to the front entrance...

I hate to ask, but why convert to GPX? Just converting it doesn't add any information but multiplies the file size by 5. CSV was working just fine.

One more thing, the file name has now been changed (from Wal-Mart US&Canada.gpx to Wal-Mart US & Canada.gpx --extra spaces) so remember to change any icon or alert file used with it.

You can always rename the GPX file rather than rename the icon and sound file.

Yet another update to that file today, maintaining the same name. So renaming the other files might be the best (done once) if the author stick to the current file name for the gpx file.

I will change the name back and upload .csv vice .gpx

During a conversion process I mistakenly re-named the file.
