Inaccurate Preloaded POI's

I find many POI's inaccurate on my 200W.
Is there a way to edit the preloaded POI's?

Nope

What you see is what you get, till next map release.

You could inform garmin

If you want to take the time and get the correct information (lat, long, name, actual address, etc..) you could fill out an error report to garmin. They will then check the information and use it to for the next update.

Here is the link:

And some asked:

What is the purpose of some POIs?

I that is why POI-Factory is so popular. smile

POI Errors

In exactly what way are they inaccurate?

All large databases, like POIs, have some errors, mostly because it is too costly for the mfg. to do a 100% verify.

If there are a LOT of errors, however, it could be a sign of a malfunctioning unit. Does it operate correctly otherwise?

Even if they did a 100% verify the data would change from the time the cd's were printed till they were shipped. They are tearing down McD and BK left and right - sometimes rebuilding on the same lot or down the street.

Example..........

I wanted to go to a Quiznos.
Garmin had the address as 7032 Brighton Brook Dr. 28212 It took me to a neighborhood with only houses, no Quiznos. It also tried to direct me down a dead end street to get there
The actual Quiznos address is 7032 Brighton Park Dr 28227, on the other side of town.
This also happened a couple of times while in Louisville. Took me to places that didn't exist.
I would submit these problems to Garmin, but it would probably take years for them to correct. I don't have time to wait.
I guess I can rely on POI Factory and download POI's from here, and not use the preloaded one.

People report the addresses to the companies that maintain the databases, and people make mistakes. I just had that twice over the weekend, manually entering addresses from a state-provided brochure and 3 of them had Rd vs Ave vs St errors. It is a monumental task for them to keep this all updated and near impossible when people report bad addresses in the first place.
