Redlight Cameras File

Hi Diving Cop --

To download the file, visit this page:

http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles/us/red-light-cameras

Click on the link that says 'contribute and download today'. After you complete the Paypal checkout process, you'll return to a POI Factory page that has a link to download the file.

Basic steps to install the file

1. Make sure Garmin's POI Loader software is installed on your PC.

2. Create a new folder somewhere on your PC to hold POI files.

3. Open the redlight-cameras.zip file you downloaded from POI Factory and copy the redlight-cameras.csv file to the new folder you just created.

4. Connect your GPS to your computer and start the Garmin POI Loader program.

5. Click Next until you're prompted to "Please select the directory where the data files can be found"

6. Click Browse and select the folder (from step 2) where you copied the redlight-cameras.csv file.

7. Click Next until POI Loader reports the file is successfully installed.

Red Lights

I am assuming I get the POI Loader from the Garmin website. Is it free of charge or what does it cost. Thank for such a fast response and detailed directions. I just joined and have learned more here than the Garmin manual. DC

Garmin POI Loader

Correct -- Garmin POI Loader is a free download from Garmin.com.

Thanks. I am new to all this

Thanks. I am new to all this stuff. I find that my C530 is awesome for me. It works great even without any custon POI's and is a nice compact unit. Do I need an SD card in the side to download this stuff and save it, or does it go into an internal memory. If not what is that side card slot used for??? Again, your patience with these questions are appreciated. DC

memory

With c530, you can do it either way (load into GPS or onto SD card).

A couple users have reported better performance (faster alerts) when the POIs are saved to internal memory.

SD Card vs Internal Memory

I keep different files on the SD card and in the internal memory. I wanted to keep them all external, however based on comments from this site, I decided to put the Red light cameras internal so that it would react quicker. As long as I don't move the files from the SD card to internal memory at startup, both sets of files work well together.

My setup is as follows:
Internal: Red light cameras
SD Card: Numerous downloads broken up into categories (via folders)

When I use the POI loader, I direct a folder on my PC labeled Internal to the Garmin Unit. I then rerun POI loader, directing the folder named External to the SD card. The main thing to remember is that POI loader remembers the previous folder you loaded so you need to change it under browse.
