Is it dead,,, dead?

As old as it is, my 1450 will not power up. I have not used it in a long time. When I pluged it in, it showed the Garmin logo and then the green progress bar barely started then nothing. Blank.
Seems I had this problem before and I tried same fix as before. Plug into wall outlet for a long length of time. No help this go around.
Guess Ill stick with my phone apps for now.
Any ideas?

Same

My Nuvi 1490 did the same thing. Turns out, it was a bad battery. The unit worked fine after I replaced it.

Not sure why it wouldn't boot on external power, all my other Garmins do.

I still see replacement batteries around for the 1400 series. I doubt it would be worth the effort though.

Just for the heck of it, try plugging it into your vehicle and start the engine. The voltage and charging current are likely higher than an AC adapter. I've heard others say this sometimes works.

New battery about $30

You’ve probably done it, but try different cables and chargers.

Nailed it !!

(John- I did try another cable and chargers. Didn't help my unit. Good thought.)

bdh - I would have never thought to do that. I have heard that some rechargeable batteries needed a jolt from another battery to get the message to let a charge come in.
Did as you suggested and it started charging as usual. Only ran car for 3 minutes. Unpluged and maps came on screen. Didn't think I would get into house quick enough to plug back into computer. Its charging now. Time will tell when GPS and next charge is needed. As you said, probably not worth time and effort with cost of a new battery.

Although, if I can open my unit, I might try it.

Thanks every so much.

It's alive again.
